  1. Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 250 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1875 cR
  2. Explosive Ordnance Distribution – Earn 3 kills with ordnance weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR
  3. A Simple Spree – Earn any spree in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR
  4. L.D. Pillar – Complete the Pillar of Autumn on Legendary, without dying, with Mythic, Thunderstorm, Tilt & Tough Luck on – 5000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 250 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1875 cR

You’ve got a few choices for doing this really easily and quickly if you don’t get it in the other challenges…

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Explosive Ordnance Distribution – Earn 3 kills with ordnance weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

EOD weapons include: Rocket Launcher, Grenade Launcher, Spartan Laser, Plasma Launcher, and the Concussion Rifle. The very best mode for this is now DinoBlasters, found in the Action Sack game types. You’re given a Concussion Rifle with an unlimited clip, so 3 kills should be really simple.

A Simple Spree – Earn any spree in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Sprees cover a lot of options, 5 kills with Shotguns, Sniper Rifle, Plasma Grenade sticks, Swords… and so on. Frankly, 10 kills with anything gets you a spree, so just do that and you’ve got a very easy 1000 credits.

L.D. Pillar – Complete the Pillar of Autumn, without dying, with Mythic, Thunderstorm, Tilt & Tough Luck on – 5000 cR

We have never had a challenge that had to be completed in Pillar of Autumn. Key to this challenge is the point that if you die, quickly hit pause, then select Save and Quit, then reload your last checkpoint in the menu, and you’ll be reset back, having never died. The best advice I can give is to have a read of Tyrant’s Mythic guide to PoA, which will serve you well here for getting through the mission, and is much much easier than trying to figure it out yourself.

In preparation for the Game Night this coming Wednesday, have a read of the updated RDC Game Night hub page (we’ll keep the URL static so feel free to bookmark it and visit), where we’re looking for Party Leaders and any good suggestions for game types or things to do in future.

And of course, if you have your own thoughts, please add them in the comments.

Explosive Ordnance Distribution – action sack also has ‘rocket CTF’

  2. Sir Galahad 63 says:

Wow the L.D Pillar challenge sounds to be really hard. I probably won’t do it. The only challenge I’ll probable do today is A Simple Spree, due to lack of time on Xbox.

    Geekville FTW.

Lol, I just looked at and posted a comment on a post from 17th October 2010, about the Pass the rock Bug. I’m amused my own achievements.
    God I’m lonely…

    • Matthew Vose says:

Given that the blog started 11th October that’s pretty early. And that bug spawned one of the last forums I ever wrote on B.net – I asked what other achievements/challenges would be ridiculous is you made them ‘in one game without dying’, and got flamed like I was meeting the Human Torch.

But come on, what if this week we’d had ‘Now I have a Machine Gun – Earn 40 kills with automatic weapons in multiplayer Matchmaking IN ONE GAME WITHOUT DYING’?

      • Sir Galahad 63 says:

It would want to be a challenge worth at least 20,000 cR!

      • Sir Galahad 63 says:

And oddly there were no comments on that blog from 17 Oct. Did you delete them or were there just no commenters?

      • Sir Galahad 63 says:

No comments on ANY blogs as far as I can see…

      • Matthew Vose says:

On 17th October I had 476 hits in total. These days that equates to about 2 hours. RDC had some fairly humble beginnings.

      • Sir Galahad 63 says:

        Yes, but no one commented?

      • Matthew Vose says:

Most blogs start that way though, you need to build up the community and regular readership for a while. Look at Snickerdoodle’s blog, no regular comments yet but if she keeps blogging regularly it’ll come, it’s not a quick win medium.

By comparison, we’ve had 694 hits in 2 hrs 45 mins today on RDC, and 17 comments. I’ve been doing this for 7 months with at least 1 post a day, so it tells you how much effort has gone in to getting to this stage (and an averg 4.5-5k readership).

And yes I’m totally pimping her blog, she helps so much on here I need to give some sort of gratitude! 😀

      • not to mention i have a kick ass dog 8)

  4. hoellenhamster says:

Not sure whether I got this right, but the campaign challenge doesn’t state a difficulty, right? So in theory, you could just do this on easy to counter the difficulty multipliers. Or does it have to be at least normal difficulty to count (like with the achievements)? I don’t think it will be that hard anymore, since easy enemies pretty much just get down on their knees once you approach them and accept you as their new overlord, offering you milk and cookies in the process.

    • Sergeant Jinto says:

Except that when you select the challenge and have it take you “to an appropriate lobby” it automatically puts it on Legendary. =\

    • Sergeant Jinto says:

And I just tested it on Normal. The challenge “cannot be completed currently” if it is on Normal or Heroic.

    • Matthew Vose says:

Annoyingly the B.net challenge pages don’t say it, but when you go to Challenges in game it does say ‘Complete Pillar on Legendary’. I’ve updated the listing above to reflect this. The name L.D. means Legendary Deathless so I’d just taken is as read (ASSumed as someone might say).

      • Wunschkind89 says:

It’s a pain in the ass because not 2 months ago, an L.D. challenge with No skulls was worth 5000cR. Now it’s multiple times more difficult, yet it’s the same cR payout. Bungie needs to stop cheaping out on the cR 😦

  5. Sir Galahad 63 says:

You know what one of the bad things is about Halo Reach?

You can’t take down a Scarab Masterchief style. You can’t take down a Scarab AT ALL.

  6. JustHawkeye says:

Wow, no dying on pillar of autumn. I just did that level on legendary and died 50 times in about 3 hours. Granted 20+ of those deaths were trying to assassinate the elite at the begining, although i already have the achivement, I thought it would be fun. I was also pwned by the brute chieftain with the FRG.

The FF challenge was easy to get on crashsite and not a big time suck either. I also got my explosive ordinace kills in a game of bro slayer on sword base and got an extermination. It was an awesome game (18-5). and we slaughtered the blue team 50-20.

Maybe I’ll try the mini-laso after watching Tyrant’s mythic guide, but I’ll have to ruin a campaign farming checkpoint. 😦

  7. SlimEel94 says:

So… L.D. Pillar, a few less skulls and a lower reward makes it a daily? Doesn’t seem very fair for someone like me, who in the past 3 weeks has been struggling to complete the dailies just to level up! I’ll still give it ago and I can almost guarantee that by 6AM (GMT) I’ll be screaming at the TV complaining of lag and such like! The fun of Halo will never cease!!

    • Scruff UK says:

This is like the 7th L.D. challenge. It’s not new.

Dailies are fun and good and all, and you’re definitely in the right place to find out how to do them, but they don’t contribute much to levelling up. Depending on what rank you are, you’ll make around 2,000 cR just from one single game of Firefight.

Alternatively go into Action Sack and try and hit the 11,000 cR jackpot.

      • Phil says:

I’ve been playing a lot of Action Sack all week to get the revenge weekly challenge. I hit the 3,000 cR jackpot twice on Friday, and then I actually hit the 11,000 cR jackpot on Saturday! (Actually, it was 11,486 or something like that…) My son and I were absolutely astonished! That’s by far the biggest payout I’ve ever seen on a game (except those that finish a weekly challenge).

  8. DaddyOi30 says:

Hmmm complete PoA on almost Mythic difficulty for 5000Cr! Not gunna happen

  9. Chris says:

Can we do co-op for the campaign one? And, does the pause/quit/startup thing still work in co-op?

    • Tim Everitt says:

Co-op works. No save and quit, the dead player respawns with the other. Not sure how effective a guest controller would be with this mission. Perhaps an attempt is in order.

  10. leroy getz says:

will be on later if anyone fancies tackling this in co-op.love the campaign challenges. around 9 uk time, if the wife lets me lol. gt = leroy getz

  11. Jesse says:

    Hi,
I asked this in the weekly, but maybe I’ll try here.
A little off topic, but here it goes. Does anyone know if you hit the BACK button (left arrow) on the controller – will that cause lagging? When I do that, I “appears’ that the game gets choppy, and I don’t want to get flagged for network tampering, or whatever 343/Bungie/Microsoft calls it!!!

Thanks for the info, if anyone has the answer.

    • i can’t imagine that would cause network tampering. all you’re doing is checking the score, shouldn’t be a problem. i do it all the time.

“lag” or “network manipulation” comes from your modem and ‘net connection, not controller buttons. and lag during FF and MM are cased by different things, someone here has an explanation for that, hopefully they chime in here. i can play FF solo but as soon as jump in an arcade game, i lag. but i can play MM with no problem.

  12. Grenada44 says:

Well, LD PoA falls before me… took almost 2 and a half hours to do so >:|

But my 11,000 cR jackpot in Action Sack – Hot Potato makes me feel rejuvenated 😀

  13. Chris says:

Not UK based with Virgin Media are you ?

FF lag is more prevalent because synchronous networking model is used – no ones screen updates until everyone has the same data.Normal matching is asynchronous ,so your xbox reacts immediately to input, and then sends data to the host.FF MM needs everyone to be low ping to play with no lag.

If hitting the back button really does cause lag , then may I suggest you don’t hit it 🙂

    • Jesse says:

Not using Virgin Media. But thanks for the detailed explanation.

I often wonder about the lagging toward the end of a FF arcade game.. especially when you see 1 or 2 players quitting (booted?). I saw it a few times today – the players had scores in the 20-30k range, but did not finish the game. Just before the 2 players left, the game began lagging badly, then the scoreboard is briefly displayed (the quitting players are greyed out). Spooky Banhammer breaking hearts?
I’m theorizing that if you check the score too much, Bungie sees it as trying to unfairly affect the outcome of a game, or something…? Needless to say, I stopped checking the score. 🙂

This is my second post and i just wanted to say i got my first MM invincible! infection on swordbase

  16. Elite Eliwood says:

do NOT do L.D. Pillar!! i just did it and it is not worth it. by “did it” i mean failed at it. i have spend 3 hours going trough the mission keeping my primary controller out of harms way, but the ending… the mac cannon takes 2 shots, and even if your guest spawns to get back in, its already to late…. ik i could have went to last checkpoint, i shiuld have. but this 5k Cr daily… is NOT worth it nor its fun. It should have been a weekly, like the upcoming LASO. ok i will do it again if its a weekly… but NEVER solo because its IMPOSIBLE even for the pros because the mac cannon part is a pure gamble…. im pissed and i hate halo but tomorrow it will be the best game ever again >_<

    • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I got through it after about 3 hours or so. Yeah that last part is a breeze just like Awesome said. Just hide til the guy tells you to hit it and jump in and 2 shots later your finished. It is almost impossible doing it the right way i know. And as for the LASO weekly challenges, i love doing them. In fact i started on The Package tonight so i can get half way through it and pick up where i left off tomorrow and hopefully finish it. Good luck!

  17. Awesome says:

Hey Elite, just so you know, you don’t have to get into the mac gun until Keyes tells you to fire at the corvette. All you have to do is hide down stairs so the phantoms and banshees can’t shoot you. It’s hilarious. I personally gave up on this mission during the hold out stage. Not worth 5k.

    • Jesse says:

5k will be a drop in the bucket as more players level up. Maybe they are throwing a bone to the none Gold members??

  18. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

WOW! This caught me totally off guard. While going through The Package for the upcoming weekly (I hope so atleast so i wont be wasting my time doing this), I was at the part when you enter Sword Base with Noble Team and i was standing there in front of Emile for about 5 seconds and he said “You and me are a lot alike, i like blowing stuff up and you like to stand around with your thumb up your ass.” I dont know about you all but that one was new to me! LOL!
