17th November – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

No S&L plus two new challenges? This will be a day long remembered…

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Okay, so it’s S&L by any other name. Given that the next two challenges call for you to kill more than 3 times this amount you might get this easily.

Gunslinger – As per usual, pick your favourite mode out of Team Slayer/SWAT, Rumble Pit or Multi Team variants. If you’re going Multi Team, beware Rocket Race and it’s low kill volume mayhem.

The Little Guys – My thoughts on best Campaign missions for Grunt kills are:

  • Winter Contingency – There are a number as you go round, especially if you hit the clusters of them when you jump in the truck. Make sure you’re going for Grunts as your first kill, with all of Noble Team around they do tend to pick them off for you. Once you’re in the courtyard for the firefight I’d recommend staying out as long as you can. The dropships keep coming but they also drop Jackals and Elites. Even if you do it’s definitely a good section to do over.
  • Exodus – I didn’t think of this as a Grunt heavy level, but looking at my stats for each mission I’ve played I usually come up with 50 or more kills. I don’t know how many of these come because of deaths, but it’s going to be my first port of call when I try this.
  • The Package – I’m thinking mostly of the opening fight where there must be 10 or more Grunts. You see a few more as you go through Sword Base, but there are bucket loads of them dropped in the cavern firefight at the end – perhaps jump straight to that and do it a couple of times.

On The Sixth Respawn – I’m fully expecting this to be available on Score Attack and Gruntpocalypse – all other FF MM challenges are. If it is, then go for it in Gruntpoc and just be careful. Complete might mean kill all dudes, or just survive to the end, not sure. If it’s got to be done in full Firefight then just be careful, make sure you know your surroundings and can run if needed. Drop Shield’s a good idea too as long as you’re prepared to run away and heal if needed.

The polls today are also about you lovely challenge seekers…

For “The Little Guys” challenge, somebody mentioned earlier this week about using the target designator on ONI Sword Base by killing the first elite and then running to get the designator and a checkpoint. This method will also work for killing grunts because there are a lot of them out there if you don’t kill any on the way to the designator. You’ll get 5 or 6 of them each time you shoot if you keep reloading the checkpoint immediately after the last multi-kill pops up. The bonus is that several of your campaign commendations will benefit from this method, partiularly Splash Damage and Walking Tank. You should be able to finish the “Little Guys” in about 15 mins, although it is pretty repetitive grinding.

I can confirm that Sixth Respawn does work in Gruntpocalypse. Just finished that with B&R a few minutes ago. ONI seems fine for “The Little Guys” but is pretty grinding. I’m only getting 3 Grunts per shot where I checkpointed, so am going to try again to see if I can get more to follow me down before I checkpoint.

I think that Exodus is another potential place for doing The Little Guys, it’s always been in my mind as a place to go a hunting…

Once I’ve gone through Oni, I can report back on grunt kill numbers & if anyone else is going through ONI then we can compare notes?

    Cheers Guys,

What about Canadians?! This isn’t cool. I’m not an American damnit. =/

Heh only kidding. Not upset. Also, The Package, Rally Point Bravo has about 9-10 Grunts which work better. Wait til after Halsey says something about needing more time, launch a grenade at them and hope for a Checkpoint before it explodes, or get the Checkpoint THEN do the Grenade/DMR shots and reload/repeat.

I did the target locator and it took me exactly 8 mins with 4 kills per time.
