19th December – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

You could tell the UK was snowed in yesterday, almost all my British friends on XBL were signed in for most of the day (as was I). Looks like it might be the same today!

One Spartan Army – Kill 250 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2500 cR

You get about 100 enemies in Score Attack, 120 in Gruntpocalypse, and between 70 and 100 for a normal Firefight (although more if you have less than 4 people in a game). So it’s up to you on the best combination. I usually do Rocketfight/Matchmaking type games until I get to within 1 game of Gruntpocalypse or Score Attack worth of the total then switch to them. You’ve heard me say it before, but play them in Corvette so it’s easy to predict where enemies will appear and hunt them down quickly

A Friend in Need – Earn 10 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Courtyard all the way, especially on the Elites and Brutes. If you do 40% or more damage and someone else kills the enemy in 4 seconds you get an assist. So when you start seeing Elites and Brutes start hammering them (particularly using an overcharged Plasma Pistol on Elites) when there are other people clustered around you.

There are Many Like… – Kill 100 enemies with precision weapons in the Campaign today – 1000 cR

Well it’s been a while since we’ve seen this one. Precision weapons are the DMR, Sniper Rifle, Needle Rifle and Focus Rifle (anything that can headshot except the Pistol, which is small arms, although you don’t need to headshot for the challenge). Nightfall is good, because you start with loads and loads of ammo for the Sniper Rifle. But… I’m thinking Winter Contingency Rally Point Bravo. If you run into the base you can grab a DMR, then come out blazing. Loads of enemies are dropped and you can pick them off with one or two shots each. Then in the base the same thing. Hopefully only 3 or 4 runs through this section and you’re good.

Roast ‘em, Toast ‘em – Kill 10 enemies while jet-packing in Exodus on Normal – 1200 cR

Now, if you can get these 10 with a precision weapon you’ll help on the last challenge. Go to Rally Point Alpha of Exodus where you’re given a jet-pack and hop over to the platform. As per usual, make sure you’re actively firing the jet-pack when you get the kill otherwise it doesn’t count. 10 should be pretty easy, you can snipe the Grunts and Jackals before actually making it to the platform so getting a few that way.

Bungie are really getting generous with their credits now, that last one is double the cR we’ve been given for the same challenge before. Sweet!

Hooray for no crummy Multiplayer Matchmaking challenges!

Although assists in Firefight are still a bit of a pain…

I second the cheer for a multiplayer matchmaking-free day. Am always glad to have some firefight challenges, but assists will be pain. Mind you I’m guessing it’s cumulative and not in one game, so it’s not that bad. And some campaign challenges too, also a nice change.
I’m not snowed in (we had our snow chaos in Yorkshire a few weeks back) but it IS Sunday, and what better way to spend it….?

Sniperfight can be a quick way to get the Firefight Matchmaking assists and still work on the perfectionist commendation. Team up with someone and organise it so that you take the first shot on the transports concussion gun and they take the second shot, getting you an assist. Then you switch for the other transport. In one full game with two players, you can get up to 16 assists each just doing this.

I’d recommend Glacier if you can get it since it’s easy to survive all three rounds with a good sniper spot (up high just outside the door) plus there are plenty of vehicles to blow up or steal so you can work on the worst commendations (Perfectionist and Grounded).

Nice tips spiderbaby! Problem is I get rocketfight everytime. No big tho. 2 games and I had both the 250 and 10 assists. 4500 credits plus 4000 at least just for playing. I did the Exodus one and called it good.

For the Roast ’em challenge, I just pick up one of the dropped gravity hammers, approach an enemy, and press the jet pack button at the same time I pull the trigger to attack with the hammer – piece of cake.
