23rd December – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Firefight Thursday folks, and if you don’t get the weekly today, you’re just not trying.

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 500 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2500 cR

Given the other challenges today, and the weekly challenge, you need to play Firefight so you’ll get there doing these. If you want to top up, either Gruntpocalypse in Corvette for 120 easy kills, or keep replaying Winter Contingency Rally Point Bravo to get a random amount.

A Friend in Need – Earn 10 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Courtyard all the way, especially on the Elites and Brutes. If you do 40% or more damage and someone else kills the enemy in 4 seconds you get an assist. So when you start seeing Elites and Brutes start hammering them (particularly using an overcharged Plasma Pistol on Elites) when there are other people clustered around you.

Heroic Demon – Kill 20 Elites in Firefight Matchmaking on Heroic or harder – 2000 cR

Any Rocketfight Matchmaking will suit you here (you only get about 6 Elites in Score Attack so that’ll take about an hour if you do it that way). Courtyard can be useful as it doesn’t take too long to get out and take people on. I quite like Overlook as it’s a fairly easy map to do hit and run attacks once the enemies get tough. The last few times we’ve seen this the number of Elites has been upped in the Firefights, particularly the bonus round.

Blast Radius – Kill 40 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with Grenades – 1800 cR

Two strategies for you here – either Gruntpocalypse on Corvette and throw grenades at the Grunt spawn rooms (particularly those to the left and right of the ramps opposite your spawn room), then when you get grenades from the Grunts you kill use grenades when they come into the pinch point corridors. Or play Firefight on Courtyard, run to the left out of the spawn room and from the terrace you can usually get up to 5 or 6 dudes with grenades when they’re dropped off. My way to get this challenge – use grenades as going for the assists and Elites above, then go to Gruntpoc to get this and the kills challenge.

Loads of credits if you’re willing to grind some Firefight. I’m off to pack Rock Band to play with the family at Christmas. Don’t worry, I am still going to be doing the blog over the holidays, although it might involve some sparkling alcohol for Matthew too (BTW, if you want to say thanks to me for the commentaries then Champagne is a good start :D).

    Merry Christmas All.

I have a question regarding the “Firefight Matchmaking” mode. Does Score Attack count towards these challenges?

I ask because you recommend certain maps (Corvette) and game types (Gruntpoc) which you can do on Score Attack. If playing Firefight though, you can only play on what the majority votes on.

Also, you mentioned trying it on “Heroic”. If playing on Score Attack (assuming it would count towards the challenges) where would you change that? I haven’t seen an option where you can change the difficulty for Score Attack.

    THANKS in advance!!!!!!!

I meant “Courtyard ” Not Corvette.

Yes, Score Attack variants do count towards Firefight Matchmaking variants. Hence when I talk about Gruntpoc you’re looking at waiting for the Corvette options to come up, or Courtyard for today, but usually it’s Corvette that’s the one you’re going for. As Master Soul says below, it’s a small map that forces the enemy into a pinch point if you stay in the corridor by the spawn room and makes it easy to take them out. The platform at the top of the ramp is a great sniping point for your DMR (I can clear Gruntpoc Corvette in about 7 minutes).

I don’t know how to change the difficulty in Matchmaking. It always goes for Heroic, so you’re fine on anything that says Heroic, or Normal or harder, which is what they’ve always said so far.

Score Attack is a 1player gametype…. so you would not be able to get any assists, but yes it counts towards FF challenges! and…i would like to know how to change the difficulty also! Its default setting is heroic which is what you will always need it on anyways for challenges…its never been just Legendary!

and the reason maps such as Corvette and Courtyard are always mentioned is because they are smaller maps, quicker to kill enemies, and less time consuming!
