3rd January – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

I know you’re going to want to find out about these to get the weekly underway, so here we go…

Fire When Ready – Kill 50 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR

This is over any number of games, so no stress to push for it at once. 50 should only take a few games though, Multi-Team Battle is particularly good for getting a high number of kills in any one game, especially the objective based Crazy King and Oddball variants.

A Great Friend – Earn 15 assists today in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

An assist is when you do 40% or more damage to an opponent and someone else kills them within 4 seconds. There are various ways to do this, one of the best is to team up with someone and work on taking people out together, again particularly in the Multi-Team Battle variants. An overcharged Plasma Pistol or Sniper Rifle shot to the body do more than 40% damage straight off, so you can always snipe from a camping position (ie the loft on Pinnacle) to help take people down. Apparently Rumble Pit is also excellent for getting assists.

There Are Many Like… – Kill 50 enemies with precision weapons in the Campaign today – 1000 cR

Precision weapons are the DMR, Sniper Rifle, Needle Rifle and Focus Rifle (anything that can headshot except the Pistol, which is small arms, although you don’t need to headshot for the challenge). Make sure you work through a whole mission if you still need the weekly challenge – Nightfall is good, because you start with loads and loads of ammo for the Sniper Rifle. Although you might want to start in Exodus…

Roast ‘em, Toast ‘em – Kill 10 enemies while jet-packing in Exodus on Normal – 1200 cR

Now, if you can get these 10 with a precision weapon you’ll help on the last challenge. Go to Rally Point Alpha of Exodus where you’re given a jet-pack and hop over to the platform. You need to make sure you’re actively firing the jet-pack when you get the kill otherwise it doesn’t count. 10 should be pretty easy, you can snipe the Grunts and Jackals before actually making it to the platform so getting a few that way. There was a good suggestion from Turbo last time we saw this – pick up a Gravity Hammer from the Brute who runs at you like a badger, then hit fire and equipment at the same time when hitting someone.

The last two challenges are pretty quick and easy, so you can get that awesome weekly underway. Check back daily for commentary on how to achieve the challenges as quickly as possible. FYI… You can’t complete “There are many like…” on Easy difficulty. I loaded up Nightfall on Easy and wasn’t making any progress, then restarted on Normal and started accumulating kills. So don’t attempt this one on Easy difficulty. You can probably make use of a DMR in completing “Roast ‘Em, Toast ‘Em” on Exodus and make progress on “There are many like…” at the same time.

Yeah that’s a pretty standard thing on Reach – achievements aren’t really unlockable on Easy, and anytime I’ve tried a challenge there it doesn’t become active. It’s like how Legendary difficulty (finally) becomes more difficult as you add in more players – in the other Halo games the number of enemies remained the same so it was much easier to finish in co-op.

the jetpack one was the most amusing 😀 i used the hammer/jetpack technique and it worked quite well.

What I do is run up to a bunch of enemies throw a grenade or stick and then jet pack away! This works a treat as its 4-5 kills a go!
