6th January – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Sorry for the delay folks, I was finding some myrrh to use to celebrate Epiphany later on.

One Spartan Army – Kill 400 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR

You get 120 Grunts in Gruntpocalypse, about 100 enemies in Score Attack and something like 330 in a Firefight Matchmaking game (although split between up to 4 people). I recommend picking up the other challenges. Then, if you only need more kills (and maybe the last challenge for Supercombines) jump into a Score Attack/Gruntpoc game to finish off quickly.

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 250 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2500 cR

If you’re going for the one above you’ll get this. If you’re going for those below, you’ll get to within one Score Attack or Gruntpocalypse of doing it.

A Satisfied Thirst – Kill 100 Grunts in Firefight Matchmaking – 1500 cR

In Gruntpocalypse you’re offered 120 Grunts to kill, and it takes about 10 mins max to do. So jump in there and play. Try and pick up the Needler at some point and start working on…

That Pink Mist – Kill 20 enemies with a Supercombine from the Needler or Needle Rifle in Firefight Matchmaking – 1650 cR

I’m a Score Attack fan for this. You can grab a Needler from the Grunts and use it on them. In the second wave you can get a Needle Rifle from a Jackal. To get the supercombine you need to hit an unshielded enemy with about half a Needler clip, or three from the Rifle. The third wave of Brutes is excellent for this as they’re big targets and don’t dodge so much as they get close. For today I’d work through Gruntpoc for the challenge above, then if you need to jump into a Score Attack to finish it off, and keep ploughing through to get the kill volumes too.

Simple challenges today, which is nice for Firefight Thursday (no assists or Elites for once). If you’ve not started on the weekly, today’s the last day to kick off!

What an easy day for challenges! Score Attack Gruntpocalypse 3.5 times will net you all the daily challenges in under 40 minutes. Which I was fortunate enough to get done before work today and grab the 16k weekly in the process. For those that enjoy Firefight, it’s a great day of challenges.

    Man i LOVE gruntpocalypse 😀 😀 😀 😀
so far i’ve managed to get 114 headshots out of 120 grunts. my target, obviously, is 120. getting there !

      Also, That Pink Mist…
Veterens should know this already, but for those who don’t, you can just unload a whole needle clip onto a shielded enemy, or about 6-7 shots from a needle rifle for a kill :] There’s no requirement to get rid of the shield first before filling their faces with needles.

I’ve only done 120 headshots a couple of times – usually I only get 118/119 kills when grenades thrown by Grunts take themselves out!

My record time is just under 7 minutes. It’s a great game mode.

Sniperfight is great for the Pink Mist since once you grab a needler… unlimited ammo!

  5. DCSimian81 says:

These, I like! I missed out on yesterday’s cuz I thought they’d take too long (then I hear people doing them in an hour). Ah well. Love firefight and love killing grunts! The sniperfight suggestion was a good one. Thanks!
