16th January – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

The last challenge today is probably my favourite daily challenge, mostly because I love the section where you have to get it…

Gunslinger – Kill 100 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Multi-Team battle is the place to go for lots of kills, as long as you avoid the Rocket Race variant. Crazy King and Oddball help get a high number of kills if you aren’t interested in the objective.

A Great Friend – Earn 15 assists today in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

What? 15 for 2k? Last time it was 30 for 2k? Sweet! An assist is when you do 40% or more damage to an opponent and someone else kills them within 4 seconds. There are various ways to do this, one of the best is to team up with someone and work on taking people out together, again particularly in the Multi-Team Battle variants. I will confess I’ve still not tried Rumble Pit for assists, but every time these challenges appear it’s recommended. Other good options include an overcharged Plasma Pistol or Sniper Rifle shot to the body do more than 40% damage straight off, so you can always snipe from a camping position (ie the loft on Pinnacle) to help take people down.

Mythic Evasion – Complete a Campaign mission on Heroic or harder with Tough Luck and Mythic on – 1750 cR

Can you all sing along? Winter Contingency. Run as far as you can, use the jeep to take out the guys at the marine rescue (I know they’ll jump, but be patient), then hide in the base for the big firefight, and just work your way slowly through the base, making sure you get the Plasma Pistol overcharge to actually track the Elites so even when they jump it takes their shields down. I wouldn’t combine it with the next one as I recommend a tough level to complete with any skulls on…

Points Pyramid – Score 25,000 points on any Campaign Mission – 2500 cR

Same advice as I always give here – Long Night of Solace, Rally Point Alpha. You’ll be going into the space combat, with as many skulls on as you’re comfortable with. Last time I used Black Eye, Tough Luck, Catch, Cloud, Famine and Thunderstom. That gives you a 6.80 multiplier. After 8 minutes in the combat I had 45,000 points. Note that the Phantoms don’t give you points for destroying, so go after Banshees and Seraphs first. I played it on Normal, as there’s no need to make it any harder.

See what I mean? Easy, and you get to play space combat (one of my top 3 games of all time is TIE Fighter, which is so good it’s a real go to game for me in the Summer).

I’m going to keep doing the challenges post for now, a number of people commented here and on Twitter that they like it, and it doesn’t add to much time to my posting, so I’d never remove something people found useful. Of course as always if there’s something you’d like to see added, or more of, or whatever, then please ask.

Thanks matt, appreciate the posts describing the challenges.

For any challanges that say get X amount of kills in any game mode – I’m not sure whether you would approve but if you go to ONI: sword base and run along the right skipping all the enemies, pick up the Target designator and then walk to the back near the blast doors and hold there a sec or two – It will give you a check point and all you have to do is keep killing enemies with the target designator and reloading the check-point straight away and you can rack up hundreds of kills in literally minutes.

Its how i blast through them easily.

Just worth mentioning but im sure you are aware of this…I figured you may not mention it due to it being a bit fishy in earning the kills.

I suggest this one for Elite or Grunt kill volumes in Campaign, or for a quick boost. If I’m honest I’m not a huge fan of this type of tactic – although it’s good for getting challenges it artifically boosts your commendations with no skill involved. You see people who have 50%+ on commendations, but they’re not great and you know they’ve boosted (prob by some of the more extreme methods), so this is a last resort type trick.

But frankly, it’s just a game, and this is a part of the game design so it’s not cheating, and it’s a legitimate strategy as they say (About camping but fits here).

On the points pyramid one, do you just have to reach 25k score or do you need to finish the mission aswell?

    • Matthew Vose says:

Last time we had it you could get the points then quit out – it may have changed but try it and see. Once that ‘challenge completed’ pops up you’re good to quit.

      • Bobtheboredbomber says:

It popped up the moment I got 25k, thanks for the tips and posting these challenges, they’ve been a great use for my credit grinding 🙂

just wanted to thank you for posting these every single day — i literally check this website every day as one of the first things I do in the morning. To be able to see the challenges AND get some commentary without having to turn on my Xbox is super convenient. Keep on posting and thanks again!

i want to echo that as well, that i check this first thing every morning. i love that you post the challenges. would you be able to add a link to the weekly challenge after listing the 4 dailys? keep up the great work!

    • Matthew Vose says:

Thanks Bad! If you look to the menu bar on the right there is a useful links list at the top, which includes a link to my weekly challenge commentary.

      • BadSpartan says:

ahhh, i figured there was a link somewhere, just didn’t see it before. thanks.
