22nd January – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Another nice mix, and you’re probably look at about 90 minutes game time today…

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 150 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1500 cR

If you’re going for the other challenges you’ll definitely get this, given the third challenge calls for 250 kills.

Three Dog Fight – Earn a Triple Kill in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Multi-Team and Team SWAT usually yield a good chance for multikills. Since we have access to Grifball at the moment I recommend playing that – it’s easy to get multikills. If you can get yourself to the opposition’s spawn area and dominate you’ll probably get a Triple Kill.

A Satisfied Thirst – Kill 250 Grunts in Firefight Matchmaking – 1800 cR

250 Grunts puts you just above two games of Gruntpocalypse. I expect you’ll get the challenge just playing, so in the third game you can quit out when you hit the 250. Getting this challenge will give you the first challenge, so that’s a nice 3500 cR just in Gruntpoc. The alternative is to also do a game of Score Attack, which only gives about 20 Grunts, but as always, I like that you can up a number of your commendations.

Stronger, Harder – Complete a Campaign mission on Heroic with Famine, Tough Luck and Thunderstorm on – 2750 cR

As always you’re better off sticking with Winter Contingency, since it’s relatively easy to do. Search for the level name on my site and you’ll see I’ve discussed it in length previously. The key here will be making sure you visit the ammo stacks at the base (both when defending the door and starting inside the base). Pick up Plasma Pistols as they’re the most useful weapon on this level (Esp combined with DMR or Pistol) and be prepared to swap them often.

    Grifball all the way for the triple-kill challenge. It especially helps when all four members of the other team stand around the ball waiting to see who picks it up and you conveniently come by and hammer them all into paste 🙂 Instant overkill!

    Hey what’s the general strategy to deal with the ball carriers jumping over everyone? My brother and I got annoyed when that happened to us :p Sword?

      I know, it really helps when there’s no communication right? I had a good streak in Grifball earlier – 11 multikills, including a Killtrocity!

      Definitely the sword. Target and hit them, remembering that the sword will zoom you a bit towards them. If you’re playing with someone, like your brother, definitely both go as you’re often looking at two hits to take down the bomb guy.

      I usually go for grav hammer on non bomb carriers and sword on bomb carriers.

      In on of the maps Where you’re in mid air floating and there are rocks on the side (I don’t know the name) but I’ve found a trick. It involves communication though.
      One person gets the bomb and runs to the side of the map and the other team will chase you. That’s when you tell a member of your team to stand in the middle. When they are there run up the cliff and the bomb will reset and your team mate will ho

    Just in general, I personally find that for any campaign challenge, Nightfall is the easiest. Yes, you do have to use a ‘glitch’, but it does only take 5-7 mins in total and most of that time is spent running. You can get by with only killing 1-2 enemies and the rest of the time is spent running. I know you usually recommend against using glitches and things like the target locator in ONI, but it’s very similar to just running past all enemies on WC. Just a thought for people looking to switch it up — check out youtube videos on Nightfall in 5 mins to see how it works if you don’t already know. This has become the only map I use for campaign missions and it works from Normal-Mythic. This map is especially good for the “complete campaign without dying” challenges. The only thing is that the forklift glitch takes some practice to master and it may take a while to get the hang of it. Once you do, though, it’s smooth sailing. Just a thought.
