24th January – Reach Daily Challenge Commentary

I bet a lot of you will be in Campaign to get the weekly today, it’s a good thing these challenges can be picked up pretty quickly…

Gunslinger – Kill 40 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Multi-Team battle is the place to go for lots of kills, as long as you avoid the Rocket Race variant. Crazy King and Oddball help get a high number of kills if you aren’t interested in the objective.

One Spartan Army – Kill 250 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2500 cR

You get 120 Grunts in Gruntpocalypse, about 100 enemies in Score Attack and something like 330 in a Firefight Matchmaking game (although split between up to 4 people). I recommend 3 Score Attack and one Gruntpocalypse, since you don’t always get the full amount in each game (usually Grunts and Brutes kill each other by accident with grenades), and Score Attack gives you a good way to up various commendations with the variety of weapons and enemy kills.

Heroic Killagruntjaro! – Earn 7 multikills in a Firefight Matchmaking game on Heroic or harder – 1000 cR

7 multikills is easy – if you go to Gruntpocalypse on Corvette and use the DMR to snipe Grunts. Go to the platform off the left corridor as you start and you can shoot them coming out of the low room opposite, then coming down the central ramp and finally going through the centre or the further shield. Multikills do stack, so an Overkill counts as three for the double and triple kill as well.

Sticky Icky Icky – Earn 3 sticky grenade kills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1200 cR

Elite Slayer is going to be just grenades flying everywhere. It’s going to be even worse with Armour Lock as that causes a grenade to become unstuck, which everyone seems to use in Elite Slayer. Chris suggested last time we saw this to play Slayer Pro, where you can select Warden and get two Plasma Grenades, and apparently Armour Lock isn’t an option. You can do it in any normal multiplayer game, I know Sword Base (by the ramp up to the main killing area where the small room is) and Countdown (above the stairs at the end of the corridor where Red team start) have some Plasma Grenades sitting around. Any other thoughts on this challenge and grenade locations?

Let me know if you have your own thoughts on achieving today’s challenges. As always, use the useful links at the side to follow me on Twitter or join the Facebook group to get notifications when I post updates, and to read the commentary on this week’s high credit challenge.

    Sticky Locations
Where you mentioned allready at the red team spawn.
In the room where the shotgun spawns in the Back-right corner(as you’re facing the shotgun/wall).

Countdown-At the bottom of the stairs on each side there is a pair

The Cage-in between the shotgun and the sniper rifle.
Near where the Rocket Launcher spawns.

Im struggling to think of more at the moment,
but I allways just stick with sword base for sticky kills, easy to stick people who go into armour lack pre-maturely

    • Atlas says:

Sticky Icky Icky is definitely easiest in invasion, no doubt about that. However, you can get sticks on other maps.

      More Sticky Locations

Reflection- on the Water Balcony beneath the DMR
On the High Balcony near where the Sniper spawns

Boardwalk- There is a pair at the “Make Out Point”

Thanks for your article. Do you know if secondary skulls are mandatory to beat the challenge?

    • Matthew Vose says:

I don’t, I’m assuming not but if someone wants to try out please do feed back.

      • Bryan says:

When you look at the challenge in Halo Reach, it shows all the skulls, even the secondary ones. That’s gonna suck, since you won’t have the HUD to help you aim, or know you are reloading, or when you’re shields are down. Since you have to Melee to restore your shields, and if you die you go back to the last checkpoint, this weekly is going to be tough!

Matt, thanks for putting this site together. It’s so handy! I’ve been a gamer since Atari, but sort of fell out of it a while back. My stepson got a 360 for Christmas and I’m totally addicted again. Soooo awesome! I have perhaps a stupid question for you:

Is there any way to chose a specific game like Gruntpocalypse on matchmaking or is it just the luck of the draw? I could probably look it up myself but I wanted to say hi and thanks, anyway.

    • Tim Everitt says:

Most of the playists in multiplayer are randomly generated, then barring any load failures, the group votes on one of the first batch (or none, and a second set is presented for a vote).

Gruntpoc, you are able to select Co-Op > Score Attack, then select none for each group to workthrough all of the playlists until you find one that suits you. As Matthew and others have put it, Corvette Gruntpoc is the best for the Firefight daily’s.

    • Matthew Vose says:

Glad to hear it’s useful. As Tim says, go into Co-operatiev and choose Score Attack. It’s well worth getting familiar with Gruntpoc and Score Attack modes, you’ll hear them mentioned a lot around here.

      • Josh says:

I’m a much bigger fan of Co-op than Vs. anyway. This whole Co-op campaign mode is blowing my mind. PS2/Gamecube didn’t have nearly as much of it!

  4. Poiu says:

Fyi, since they changed the load out of saboteur in elite slayer (no needler), armour lock is much less common. Still probably the best mode for sticky’s, IMO.

    • Derrick says:

I seem to remember they also cut the number of plasma grenades spawned with to 1 on elite slayer. I think slayer pro is still 2, however.

Apologies if I’m not right about that, I might’ve spent too much time playing grifball last week.

      • Steve says:

They did cut the elite sticks to just 1, and I feel like the last time I played pro (its been a while) we only got one granade then, too. Though I’m a little foggy on that.

And there’s no such thing. I know, because I’ve been doing the same. My Jack and CQ commendations have soared because of it. Hoping to finally get my first, maybe even first two, multiplayer commentation(s) to onyx.

  5. Matt says:

Sticky Icky Icky is perhaps most easily done in an Invasion game, particularly on Boneyard where the stairs and refinery complex give you choke points for easy sticks; even as a Spartan you can grab many plasma grenades from dead Elites.

    • Edward says:

Landed in a Crazy King Pro match yesterday; got the Sticky Icky Icky challenge in no time. You also get two stickies in the Eilte loadout. In total, got 5 sticks without even trying.
