5th February – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

I bet everyone likes the idea of the first challenge today…

Fortified Court – Kill 1000 enemies on Courtyard in Firefight Matchmaking – 3500 cR

It’s good it’s on Courtyard, as that’s an easy level for Firefight. Different tactics apply, going left out of the room and using the roofed area as a camp; going right and building a barricade. Personally I stay by the spawn room and let everything come to me. 1000 kills though? So that’s likely to be 11 games of Score Attack, maybe 3-6 games of Firefight or 9 games of Gruntpocalypse. I’m still going for Gruntpocalypse, which is no surprise to most, since it takes 10 mins at very most, plus is easier to get some good commendations ranked up. Since you have the DMR you can snipe most Grunts before they reach you.

Three Dog Fight – Earn a Triple Kill in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Multi-Team and Team SWAT usually yield a good chance for multikills. Rumble Pit, particularly Juggernaut, is also an excellent place to do it in.

Showtime – Earn 5 assists in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

Again, Rumble Pit is good for assists since it’s just bullets and fists flying everywhere! As usual with assists you can do well in a Team game type if you pair up with someone, tell them that’s what you want to do and join forces, using Sniper Rifles, Plasma Pistol overcharges and the like to do max damage to someone, and your partner finishing them off. Don’t forget an assist is classed as doing 40% or more damage to someone with another playing killing them within 4 seconds.

Up Close and Personal – Kill 5 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

Close Quarters Combat is essentially melee, assassination, sword, hammer or shotgun kills. Team SWAT is a good one as it’s pretty easy to kill someone quick with a melee, and everyone’s looking to shoot first with headshots. Any map will probably work, although as always a smaller map like Sword Base or Countdown gives you the chance to run into someone without them seeing you. Again Juggernaut in Rumble Pit’s good – if you can become the Juggernaut you’ve got a big hammer to club people with!

My challenge for the day is to not get too ill drinking multi-coloured cocktails in London. And before you ask, no I’m not planning on jumping into Halo Reach after drinking! That’s a horrible idea to consider, especially Saturday night when a lot of the top players are in.

And as always, add your own comments if you’ve got a good tip for achieving these challenges.

    Seriously dude, a thousand?(!!!!)

That’s a LOT of kills! 9 games of Gruntpocalypse must mean you play solo through matchmaking? Otherwise, teaming up with say 3 other players would require an amount as large as 450 grunts per round…

Man, a lot of grunts are going to die today… 😀

Though I do wish there was plenty more campaign mission challenges around 😦

  3. well, good thing it’s saturday and i’ll need some stress relief after unpacking a few more boxes.

    sheesh, 1,000?! good grief!

    • Newbie says:

He he well actually it turned out not to be so bad after all 🙂

Hadn’t played Score Attack before and it was really smooth, popped 116/1000 Grunts in 10 minutes, so I’m looking forward to put the rest in the dirt later on tonight ^^

Good luck with the boxes dude, did you move recently?

      • yeah, moved from CA to Italy recently, courtesy of the US Navy.

i’ll probably be loading up on some Gruntpocalypse tonight to get it out of the way. 🙂

If you get bored of gruntpocalypse I find sniper attack an ok alternative for the same number of kills per game, and it takes roughly the same amount of time. Just sit at the far side of the dead end walkway and snipe away, then they funnel into the path and you can get a few at once.

This is what i do, you also get huge scores if you wait for enimes to line up and its very safe up there, i rarely die

For the Up Close And Personal Challenge i would suggest Infection type games. Even if your not too good at it like me, its still pretty easy to get 5 kills with the shotgun or sword. Just thought i would add that my son just turned 6 years old a couple of months ago and he got 35 kills in an Infection game a couple of days ago. He is really good at Halo: Reach. The video of him getting the 35 kills in 1 game is in my File Share, if you guys want to check it out my gamertag is DR HIGGLESTEIN. I too wish they would have more campaign challenges, i really like those! 🙂

    • michael says:

And 1000 enemies in firefight? Geeeezzzz… thats a lot! Im at 532 now and still have about 4 to 5 games to go. Atleast i got 3 commendations leveled up, so thats 1 good thing about this challenge! lol.

    • Augie says:

Dude, letting your 6-yr old son play a mature rated game, seriously? There’s a reason for the ESRB let alone the kind of language that is used in multiplayer games by many of the players. Why as a parent you’d let him play Reach is beyond me.

      • ItsEdalicious says:

Each to their own, if that kid carries on like he seems to be doing hes gonna be one kick-ass gamer! dont be judgey!

      • michael says:

Dude, its 2011. Have you seen the world today or even took a look around you? There is a LOT of crazy s?!t that goes on in this world that i cant keep my kids from seeing, and as far as him playing Halo: Reach is concerned, i really dont think its gonna make him say foul language or shoot anyone. I myself think that its more the “sheltered” kids that go crazy and do terrible things. My son has been playing games since he was 4 and i have never heard him say any foul language ever. And on top of that, he knows the difference between real and fantasy. Also i never have the headset hooked up and i have everyone muted so he cant hear other people. He also has beaten Gears Of War 2 and Borderlands by himself. I would like to say sorry to Matthew for these posts, i know that this is for the challenges and i really appreciate your site. Oh and thanks ItsEdalicious.

    • ShadowMonkey987 says:

Let me guess he camped out in a certain area of the map instead of running around and killing them..

Also did he glitch his way into certain areas of certain maps so certain Zombies couldn’t get to him.. 😛

Yeah 35 kills in Infected isn’t impressive unless your running around killing them..

      SM987 out..

      • michael says:

He camped out at a spot that anyone can get to if they know how to. It may not be impressive by any means but really good for him…I was proud of him.

  6. Rob says:

    1000 for a measly 3500 cR’s?

    Are you kidding me?

Assuming you are able to kill EVERY single enemy in any Score Attack type game (there’s 120 MAX) that’s going to be 9 games MINIMUM. At 7-10 min PER game you’re looking at an hour to an hour and a half of your life just to get a 3500 cR challenge.

Doesn’t sound like a wise investment of time for the little pay off in the end.

For those whop absolutely have to get it tho…..TRY THIS :

    – Do Gruntpocalypse on Corvette.
    – Choose JetPack
    – pop several grunts on one side of the map (I normally rung out the right side and shhot the grunts on the lft side of the map)
    – Your goal is to get the Fuel Rod gun with as many rounds as you can muster, so don’t shoot the grunts while they’re still behind the blue shields since some may have the FR gun and if you kill them b4 they exit the shield you can’t get the FR gun.
    – Get tot he top of one of the ramps on the opposite end of the map with your newly aquired FR gun and DMR.
    – Shoot grunts with the DMR and wait for reinforcements!!!!!
-When you hear the reinforcements announcement get setup in front of either the extreme left hand side ramp or right side. When the doors open CHUCK you griznads into that room, then run up the ramp to the middle door (still on top) and start firing the FR gun into the room.

This is an EASY, EASY, EASY way to attain multiple Killapocalypse or even Killionaire! Sometimes if the timing is just right you will have a bunch of grunts making their way up the middle ramp from below at the same time. Unload the FR gun again and just keep racking up the commendations.

I typically get between 1200-2100cR per Gruntpocalypse game on Corvette this way and that is without any sort of challenge factored in………

    • Newbie says:

There we go, 1000 Grunts dead and burried 🙂

Sure, 1000 kills for only 3500 cR is not much, but add to that the ~2000 cR you get every round… I netted a total of 30.000 cR this evening alone for 1hr10mins gameplay ^^ I’d say that’s a pretty good pay 😀

Yeah, I could have played Corvette your way instead and got filthy rich, but for me it’a almost all about the Challenges, not the cR ^^

    • Solar Pudding says:

      SWEET, thanks!

  7. jay says:

Rob, it has to be courtyard. Not Corvette.

    • Rob says:

      Ohh man 😦

      Forgot that bit….

Okay, as an alternative, you could play a handful of games as I described above and make out with more cR at the end of the day than spending an hour and a half on courtyard 🙂

  8. Kalkanator says:

It has to be on courtyard….

  9. Solar Pudding says:

Ugh, got to 650 kills in Courtyard but I ran out of time! I hate real life, always getting in the way.

    • Solar Pudding says:

Although I was averaging 6k cR on Courtyard Sniper Fight! New favorite Map/Mode. I think that’s just because my commendations etc are still so low (Warrant Officer 3).
