6th February – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

If ever there was a good mix of challenges, today’s got to be it…

Fire When Ready – Kill 50 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1500 cR

This is over any number of games, so no stress to push for it at once. 50 should only take a few games though, Multi-Team Battle is particularly good for getting a high number of kills in any one game, especially the objective based Crazy King and Oddball variants.

Leadership Element – Kill 30 enemy leaders in the Campaign today – 1200 cR

Last time, I pointed out that we’ve had this challenge a few times since I started the blog. That was November 26th, so I think Bungie decided to stop it for a while! Have a read of these three posts for my previous thoughts on this, I still say playing through The Package and The Pillar of Autumn, particularly from later Rally Points for each will see you well. The ONI: Sword Base credit farming trick with the Target Designator can work well if you can trap one or two Leaders in the beam each time.

Blast Radius – Kill 20 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with grenades – 1400 cR

Two strategies for you here – either Gruntpocalypse on Corvette and throw grenades at the Grunt spawn rooms (particularly those to the left and right of the ramps opposite your spawn room), then when you get grenades from the Grunts you kill use grenades when they come into the pinch point corridors. Or play Firefight on Courtyard, run to the left out of the spawn room and from the terrace you can usually get up to 5 or 6 dudes with grenades when they’re dropped off.

Streaky Shooter – Earn 5 sprees in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1500 cR

This should apply to any spree, not just kills. So you can get sprees using:

  • Hammer
  • Shotgun
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Plasma Grenade sticks
  • Sword
  • Vehicles (two here – kills in vehicle where you do the killing, and kills as driver with passenger killing)
  • Spartan Laser
  • Assists
  • Some for specific variants of Juggernaut, Invasion and Infection

See the list on Halopedia for everything, especially as you can get 3 spree medals for each type. My recommendation – go for a weapon that allows you an easy spree, personally a Shotgun or Sword work for me. If you can take out 5 dudes you should get two sprees – one for 5 kills and one for the weapon. If you can get to 10 you’ll have 4 so almost done, or rinse and repeat on the next game. I like Shotgun on Asylum in the tunnels, or Sword on Countdown personally. Sniper on Pinnacle or Cage is probably also a good one.

And there you have it. Not huge amounts of credits, but not difficult challenges either, so kick back, relax and enjoy some different varieties of Reach.

Don’t forget to comment if you have your own strategies for any of these.

The way I’d do the spree challenge is play incredibly defensively on invasion. Basically camp in a position somewhere close to ab objective and your team mate will spawn off you and spawn spree is done. Maybe get a friend to play with you and work at it together. Just have one of you running in and dying and spawning till one gets challenge and repeats

  2. Eivind says:

wait, isn’t *lone wolf* packed with almost only elites?

  3. so how goes the recovery? 😉

the 50 in matchmaking is pretty simple, almost done already. 🙂 did some team doubles in the arena and you accumulate kills quickly since it’s just two of you.

  4. also, you had my favorite breakfast of all time. OF ALL TIME!

great choice! too bad i can’t find proper croissants here, i wish i were in france.

  5. Nightfall on Legendary with Thunderstorm, run to the first elite which will be facing away. Let it checkpoint, Beat Down the Elite. Repeat til finish. Took me 3:44 seconds.

You don’t need any extra difficulty. Normal with no skulls on NIghtfall counts him as a leader. Go to the right cave tunnel and wait for the Elite to move in front of you. Carefully creep forward with your reticle on his head. You should hit a checkpoint. When you do pull the trigger for the kill then Revert To Last Save 29 more times. If you did it right you should only have to push the trigger each time for the kill. Took me about a minute.

Exactly. And as an addition: for those who don’t already have the “If they came to hear me beg” achievement, it is attainable here as I got it today while working on this challenge, here’s a video clip of it:

      • oh geez, this took me forever! i understood how and when, but the timing never worked just right.

plus, the one time i actually HAD the elite in an assassination, my friend landed on my head and killed me. *sigh*

      • Matthew Vose says:

The key to the trick is to make sure you don’t assassinate sideways, otherwise it changes the speed and direction of the fall, often stopping it being a fatal fall. It’s really tricky, but def worth it for being a proper ‘achievement’ (not like most).

I have tried and tried to get this achievement and actually gave up on it for a while, but now since its like 1 out of 3 achievements left that i need to have all of them for Reach, im trying again. Me and my son have done the assassination on the elite 4 or 5 different times on The Pillar Of Autumn and didnt recieve an achievement.

Streaky Shooter – INFECTION INFECTION INFECTION!!!!!

Normally I would have played Grifball for this (Killing Spree + Hammer Spree) but since it’s gone for now, Infection is your best choice. If you kill 5 Zombies in a row with the shotgun it counts as a Killing Spree, a Shotgun Spree, and a Zombie Killing Spree. Thats 3! If you kill 5 humans in a row (which is every human) you would get a Killing Spree, Sword Spree, and Infection Spree, also 3! Some of you will think 5 humans can’t be done since that is every human in the game. Well I got this entire challenge in one game of Safe Havens on Sword Base. 2nd round I spawned as a zombie and killed all 5 humans by myself giving me 3 sprees. Last round I spawned as a human and camped on the top ledge and killed them with headshots as the tried to rush me. Got my last two sprees after I killed 5. Pretty easy and it’s not that hard to get to 10 kills. If you use your shotgun for 5 of those 10 you’ll have the challenge complete in one round.

Awesome! Another round of easy and fun challenges. Glad to see their is a campaign challenge in there today.

  8. RueNSig99 says:

For blast radius just do a gruntpoc with the armor lock. Snip the heavy weapon grunts then run around and stick the other ones. Use armor lock when they try to stick you. Easy challenge.

  9. Tim Everitt says:

I love the variety today. Perhaps it will help some focus on the commendations related.

  10. michael says:

Does anyone know of a way to see the daily or weekly challenges before they are released? I mean i know i should just wait til the day they come out, but i just thought i would ask. lol!

  11. michael says:

Thanks Matthew i was just wondering. I love waking up in the mornings just to check and see what the next challenges are! If it werent for the challenges i probally wouldnt still be playing Reach as much as i do. Right now im a Brigadier grade 3 and it took me what seemed like forever to get there. Now my goal is to get to the Mythic rank, so i have a long, long way to go! lol!

Leadership Element – Kill 30 enemy leaders in the Campaign today – 1200 cR

Blast Radius – Kill 20 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with grenades – 1400 cR

Just thought I’d add for future reference since it’s only like 2½h left of these challenges, but Blast Radius works perfect on Score Attack, I cleared it on Gruntpocalypse on Courtyard in less than ten minutes.

Leadership Element I did with the Target Locator in the beginning of ONI: Sword Base. Normal difficulty and Thunderstorm Skull and Team Scoring on, I scored 3 Leadership kills each blast and reloaded. But I guess you have to have a little luck with how the leaders are positioned and if the AI backup team killed any of them. All in all, the challenge was done in 6:20 😀
