Ride the Wave – Complete 200 Waves in Firefight Matchmaking – 15000 cR

We’ve had this weekly once before. It was 100 Waves for 4000 cR. Nice improvement on the credit return, definitely worth playing for. As a commenter said last time it seemed to still be about judging the balance even as recently as December. Definitely we’re now into the arena of high credit volumes for the weekly.

The key here is that this is waves, not rounds or sets. There are 5 waves to every round, and 3 rounds to every set. In the bottom right by the score and the lives is a dot counter to show you which wave and a number for the round you’re on.

So… Gruntpocalypse and Score Attack are 5 waves. In Corvette I can do either in about 7-10 mins (less for Gruntpoc), this means a little bit of grinding and you’ve got the challenge, plus a bucketload of credits – be careful you don’t hit the daily cap when you get this.

Firefight proper (including Rocketfight, Sniperfight etc) has 16 waves, as the bonus is counted as 1. That means 12 games of Firefight and 2 of Gruntpoc/SA and you’re there. Firefight takes about 25 mins, so it might be slightly quicker.

My recommendation – this is a weekly challenge so take the week to do it. We usually get Firefight Thursday challenges so hopefully that will continue. Do any Firefight challenges during the week, plus maybe the ‘any game mode’ types as well and you’ll pick this up without having to do an excess of additional games.

Don’t forget there are all the new game types in Firefight Arcade and Score Attack – I played Skirmageddon (OMGXXL difficult), 2X Score Attack and Crashsite last night, I’ll do a write up of them later and try some others soon too.

    Awesome, I love firefight. This should be a bit quicker too now that the main mode’s only 15 minutes. Chances of completing a full set in that time are slim, but it’s better than being forced to play for half an hour with a team of players that can’t kill effectively just to get the set.

    There’s a daily cap on credits? I didn’t know that. How much is it?

      it’s something like 120,000 credits per day, but if you do loads of Firefight and then get a bonus 15000 cR on top it might well be hit. It was harder when the limit was 60k.

    re: Skirmageddon – that gametype is poopy. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into and burned through a lot of lives in a hurry. If/when you write it up I have a suggestion – play it on Corvette and stay in the area you spawn so they come at you in a straight line, or similarly, get in the downstairs tunnel on Courtyard, and go near the doors to bait them into coming right at you. Where you don’t want to be for this game is anywhere out in the open, or anywhere that the little punks can fire at you from multiple angles.

  4. Score Attack x2 might be my favorite for this one – don’t you get the double shield in that one? For some reason I just seem to like it.

    Waterfront has been coming up a LOT for me, like multiple times in one voting cycle – anyone else?

      double shield and the enemies are noticeable easier to kill in my experiences….i cannot play normal Firefight because I lag so bad every time I play it

    I think FistFight has got to be my favorite Arcade gametype. I would definitely get 4 players as often as you can for this challenge. The faster you can clear out the enemies the faster the waves will be. I played a couple games with only one other player and we didn’t even finish the game. We ran out of time in the 3rd round.

    I gotta say after trying the different Firefight alternatives including Score Attack, Rocketfight/FRG Fight has to be the best alternative for 200 waves.

    It’s fast, unlimited lives, 3 teammates to help you out and unlimited ammo.

    I played the first 40 waves on Score Attack, Gruntpocalypse on Courtyard (my favourite) and realized Rocketfight was so much quicker! I’m up to 169/200 wavws in 2 evenings now.

    i had been trying to do this by just playing Score Attack but it was taking forever with only 5 waves per game … that means you’d have to play 40 games to complete the 200 waves, and at 10mins per game, you’re looking at over 6.5 hours. i was getting discouraged at my lack of progress so i thought i’d try something else, and then i found FireFight Arcade last night and hooked up with a good group of guys that were into Rocket Fight, and we blew through 32 waves in 30mins. if you can keep that pace you could possibly finish 200 waves within 3.5hrs … unless my math is completely wrong 🙂 i like how the challenges encourage you to try game types that you maybe wouldn’t have done otherwise.
