16th February – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Really low credits today, but ridiculously easy to achieve. What does that tell us? Fewer people playing for challenges on Wednesdays? Fewer people playing in general? Whatever the reason, we’ll always take it over Assists and jet-packs…

Light Fare – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1000 cR

By the time you’ve killed 60 enemies in Nightfall, done a multiplayer game and Firefight you should have this challenge. If you want to do it specifically then jump into something on Score Attack, maybe Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or Fiesta Attack to get it done quickly and rack up the kills.

A Simple Spree – Earn any spree in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Sprees cover a lot of options, 5 kills with Shotguns, Sniper Rifle, Plasma Grenade sticks, Swords… and so on. Frankly, 10 kills with anything gets you a spree, so just do that and you’ve got a very easy 1000 credits.

A Side of Huevos – Kill 60 enemies with Sniper Rifle headshots in Nightfall on Normal – 1500 cR

You get 50 something bullets, so just go through and headshot everything you can. Note it is only the Sniper Rifle you can use to get the challenge, and it has to be a headshot. I played through to the end of the first camp (before the big creatures), then restarted the mission and got everything next time around. Don’t forget that Grunt’s heads are slightly lower than the tanks on their backs and forward. There is a checkpoint trick you can use to get this quickly, get a checkpoint trigger just behind the first Elite, headshot him, then reset the checkpoint, repeat and rinse.

Multiplier – Earn 2 multikills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

Multi-Team, Team SWAT, Grifball or Juggernaut have repeatedly been the best for this. Grifball especially if you can get your timing in and get near your opponents spawn zone. Don’t forget multikills stack, so a Triple Kill (3 people) will get you the challenge straight away.

And there you have it. Not sure there’s much more to add, but if you have your own tips please as always add them in the comments.

I forgot to add this yesterday, but this week we’re polling to see what control schemes everyone uses. If you’ve not yet done so, please tick your favourite choice.

These challenges are WAY too easy and awfully low credits. I really hope this is just one of the few low credit days! On Nightfall, where i am planning on going is when you first get to where the golden elite comes out and runs up the hill because there are pretty decient amounts of enemies to take out there in all and its a checkpoint also. I didnt know if this was the checkpoint you were talking about doing or not Matthew. Well everyone, have a great day and stay safe! πŸ™‚

    • okininja08 says:

That wasn’t the checkpoint. The checkpoint was the first elite you see, the one you get a free assasination on. There is a checkpoint right before you kill him. This is useful for challenges with killing x amount of leader class, or elites in campaign.

  2. Matthew Vose says:

Even earlier than that, the very first Elite who has his back to you – headshot him, reset checkpoint. I tend to play through rather than do this but it is a quick and easy way of doing it.

    • Well, I guess this will get me to Capt. Grade 1. At least I like sniping?

I haven’t been able to do any multiplayer lately because there’s a ping issue between the tower and dish on my house so I get booted from every game within 30 seconds! The silver lining is we get firefight arcade to ourselves, I guess. =/

    • michael says:

So your saying to headshot the first elite then restart checkpoint? Is it really faster doing it that way than going up to the next checkpoint? I was just wondering cause if it is im going to do it that way!

    • michael says:

Your right. I just did it the way you said and it is alot easier. Thanks for the info!

      • Matthew Vose says:

Good to know, I’ve never tried it but apparently it’s a good way to do it. I just love playing the actual game so I go in Rifle ablazing! πŸ˜€

    • Moot point now, but from the checkpoint I went left and hopped up on the rock. You can get between 2 and 4 headshots depending on which grunts Jun decides to target (the two sleeping on either side of the elite and one in the valley). Took a lot less time!

  3. Newbie says:

Perhaps add to “A Side of Huevos” that it’s easier with Grunt Birthday on? The cheer of children is so lovely, and you know it’s a clear headshot.

Also, this is a good day to go for the Achievement A New Challenger, complete all the challenges in a given day ^^

  4. Braythor says:

Challenge: n. A test of one’s abilities or resources in a demanding but stimulating undertaking.

Nothing fitting that definition today…of course, I’ll still be doing them.

  5. Dammit I always reply to a comment instead of the main thread.

  6. DCSimian81 says:

Hey, I’ll take 4500 easy cR. More time to forge and firefight πŸ™‚

    • Darth Malber says:

Problem is, sometimes you get that amount with the slot machine in one game if you play multiplayer matchmaking enough times.

  7. blah. these almost aren’t worth it today. i might actually try to play through campaign for once instead. should be fun!

    • Matthew Vose says:

:-O You’ve never done the Campaign? Less commenting more playing the levels. Have you played Campaign on 1-3??

      • umm….kind of. i played the campaign on 1 and 2 but not 3 or ODST. but i’m playing it now, that has to count for something! πŸ˜€

    • okininja08 says:

Dude, In all honesty, you should give the campaign a chance. I thouroughly enjoyed it, and it was one of my favorite campaigns for a FPS. I mean at least play it once.

      • oh i am. i’m playing it now. πŸ™‚

although, i’m not impressed with being run over by Kat just before the checkpoint. that rocked. *rolls eyes*

who let girls drive anyways? oh…wait!

    • Dude ODST was one of the best single player FPS campaigns I’ve ever played! Get on it! Halo 3, not so much πŸ˜‰

  8. Austin says:

Matthew — I believe the sprees in Firefight start at 10 kills, not 5 like in multiplayer matchmaking. Just a minor point, because it’s still very easy.

Thanks as always for your commentary!

  9. kevin says:

lol i get more credits for completing any matchmaking game than those challenges give.

  10. Christian says:

    Good, easy challenges. Me likey!

  11. Coolguy says:

Just finished all of these, took me at most 20 minutes ahaha

  12. Kanna1 says:

For all the challenge that you need to kill a number of enemy you can make a matchmade where you put all your damage and the damage of enemy at 0, after u take rocketlancer ad go around to kill easly covenant in a little time.

    or use this map http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=10841705

  13. michael says:

Hey Matthew, i really enjoy reading your challenge posts everyday. I was wondering if you ever thought about making a site where people go to discuss different games and things? I think that would be cool, considering your site is the only one i go to for the challenges and pretty much everything about Halo: Reach!

    • Matthew Vose says:

I’d not thought about it really – the problem is I don’t have much time for gaming, so rarely play a game when it comes out (bar Halo games and AAA titles that interest me). If only every game had a mechanic like challenges to keep you playing huh??

      • michael says:

Yeah, if it wasnt for the challenges im afraid i wouldnt be playing it as much as i do. I mean i have went through the game and beat it 3 different times on normal, heroic and legendary. Right now im almost a General grade 1. I do have to say though this is the first game i have ever played so much online. Well, other than Red Dead Redemption and Gears of war 2.

      • I would have stopped after a month without the challenges, for sure.

    • Actually, if I could make a living at it that’s exactly what I would do.

  14. Locklear66 says:

I just play for the fun of it. I hooked on halo 2 at a guys house I didn’t even know sense then Iv played all the games and beat them at least once but in all I like reach the best but I don’t get to play online much so I’m only a brigadier
