24th February – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Firefight Thursday again, and these are actually quite interesting – definitely good for trying out the new modes…

Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 1100 cR

Approximate kill volumes:

  • Score Attack – 100
  • Gruntpocalypse – 120
  • Fiesta Attack/2X Score Attack ~ 125
  • Firefight – Anything up to 350/400

So one game of any of these will almost get you there, I’d recommend factoring in the next challenges first then topping up if you don’t hit your 120 and you’re not doing all of them.

Just Holdout -Kill 150 enemies on Holdout in Firefight Matchmaking – 1125 cR

So you’re probably looking at two games of anything here – if you can get into Firefight Arcade or Limited on your own or with one other you might get this, but you might as well whizz through Gruntpocalypse or something twice.

…And Recreation – Kill 100 enemies on Beachhead on Heroic in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

And the same here. I’d say Gruntpocalypse so you definitely have enough to hit the target in one go. If you’ve got your headshots then Beachhead is excellent for vehicles given it has a Ghost and a Rocket Warthog on the map, so you can use them to run over or shoot the little things.

Hyper Lethal Vector – Kill 100 enemies with headshots in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Frankly, once you’ve done Gruntpocalypse twice you should easily hit this, and your goal should be 100 or more headshots every time unless you’re using other weapons, Grenades or so on.

So pretty easy, but having fun trying out different maps.

  1. LOVE gruntpoc on beachhead, it’s one of my favorites. holdout not so much. i always seem to be found by a darn suicide grunt on that one.

i really like these for today! i’m bummed that doubles score attack is gone though, that was really awesome.

For me the challenge was actually getting a beachhead game on score attack. Finally got a 2x SA, and mopped up three challenges in one go (covenant-cide, recreation, hyper lethal vector) after my first game of gruntpocalypse on Holdout. Share your pain there, I’ve still to get a perfection on that map. Anyway, one more game there and the dailies are done.

    • Holdout’s not bad if you can draw them into the two-story part with the stairs and not get caught with an empty clip when you get swarmed, but yeah, Beachhead/Gruntpoc is almost too fun.

    • Yeah totally, then a grunt nails you with a Fuel Rod! Hahahah.

Man, I completely forgot to do these last night.

Wow…Another day of being underpaid. Well, atleast the challenges are easy. I think i will go ahead and get these done now and get them over with. Well guys, me and my son finished the weekly challenge lastnight. It honestly wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. The first part took some figuring out though. We took out everything but the elites. Then, he got their attention and i ran and got the Target Locator and used both shots to kill them all and get the checkpoint. At the wraiths we just ran past them both and went to the first switch and jumped in there and flipped it without killing hardly any of the enemies. We ran to the next switch and flipped the first one easy then i ran around the top of the rocks and without being noticed hit the second switch. It then said to take out the rest of the enemies so standing on top of the building with the revenant under me, i jumped off onto it and kicked the elite out of it. After that it seemed the shot from the revenant wouldnt take out the elites so i ran them all over. We got the checkpoint and the gauss hog. I drove him the rest of the way in the hog while he killed everything with it and when we hit the last switch, we did what everyone said to do and drove the hog into the building with the hunters and took them out. The rest wasnt too hard, just clearing out the buildings and when we got to an elite we usually assasinated him by having one of us get his attention while the other did the job. The only thing that sucked was at the end were the camouflaged elites were. The elite general that has the fuel rod gun ran into the back of the building with the camouflaged ones and it took a while before we could get an assasination on him, but after that we got a challenge complete. Oh and if the elite general isnt a general then sorry, i really dont know what he was but im pretty sure he was a general. 🙂 Thanks guys and Matthew for your posts on the weekly, i know if i didnt have your guys walkthroughs we couldnt have gotten through it. 😉

I really wish they would go back to only listing each map once on score attack. I’ve player three times now without seeing Holdout a single time. If they are going to do map specific challenges, the maps should actually be available to play on…

    • michael says:

I know what you mean Bowtie Bob. I didnt have a problem getting into a Score Attack game on Holdout, it was Beachhead that took me about 15 map vetos to get into.

      • Shane says:

I thought from the start (and more people are echoing this with the latest updates) that the menu for Score Attack should just be ‘Choose a level’, ‘Choose a gametype’, and maybe a ‘Random’ option. It would save a lot of time. I’m unsure whether you get penalized for quitting a score attack match but I end up doing that when the choice I want doesn’t come up.

    • Absolutely. It drives me CRAZY when Waterfront and Overlook come up constantly.

  4. Coalhouse says:

One game of gruntapocalypse = 3 Challanges completed.
Plus the progress on target practice, headshot, and precision comendations. Pretty good for 10-15 mins play time!

  5. Rob says:

Got ’em in 3 games of score attack.

Fiesta on Holdout got me 119 (some of them suicided). Gruntpoc on Holdout got me Hyperlethal, Just Holdout and finished Covenantacide.

Gruntpoc on Beachhead finished off the dailies. Used the ledge glitch to ensure I got em all without them suiciding.

Found that hanging out in the Factory area of the map (when you first spawn, go out the door, hang a right and go up both sets of stairs, the metal walkway is that area) is the best for crowd control. Forcing the enemy up stairs means moar headshots The metal fence thing is solid enough to duck behind in case of FRG spamming by the NPC’s and it provides decent enough LoS for most of the map.
