25th February – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

A nice mix for Friday Multiplayer challenges…

More than Handful – Kill 77 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2310 cR

Multi Team Battle is the best way to get lots and lots of kills, you tend to get more than any other mode. If you play Crazy King or Oddball you can get even more as some people who would shoot you go for the objective, and you can take them out.

Sticky Icky Icky – Earn 3 sticky grenade Kills in a mutliplayer Matchmaking game – 1250 cR

See this previous post for more information on Plasma Grenade locations. It’s not the easiest to get 3 in a game, but a lot of maps have Plasma grenades so if you know where they are you can keep trying. I’ve always said Elite Slayer is good, but Armour Lock makes it genuinely difficult because everyone knows it’s coming. I did this in Rumble Pit in Countdown last time, by swapping between the grenades at the bottom of the stairs on either side of the map I had lots of chances to throw grenades.

Now I have a Machine Gun – Earn 100 kills with automatic weapons in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1500 cR

Your multiplayer automatic weapons are the Assault Rifle, Needler and Plasma Rifle. I’d recommend Team Slayer in Elite Slayer, so that you can use the Needler to take guys out. This will take a bit of grinding, but allows you to work towards the win volume challenge above. Rumble Pit can be really helpful too running around blazing the AR, but it’s tempting to pick up other weapons.

Vengeance Found – Earn your ‘Revenge’ in a mutliplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

Revenge is when you kill the guy who killed you. Chances are you’ll pick this up naturally, especially if a camper kills you and doesn’t move. That said, there are some maps that seem to make it easier, particularly ones where you can get back to someone really quickly. Team SWAT on Asylum’s good because you can snipe the guy who took you out from afar. I like Countdown because the high platform by the jets and ramps is always a killing zone that’s easy to get to and you’ll often find your killer there. Infection might be good if you’re the zombie and you get shot by a human and can then take them out. Grifball’s also excellent as it becomes a big melee you can get back to your killer quickly, especially those who stay near your spawn zone. Shame you can’t get revenge on Betrayals though.

I’ll see you all in the game.

  1. i like these ones a lot! what the heck is up with 2310cR…really? 2300 wasn’t good enough? sheesh.

nap time for me and then back on halo. 😀

      Because 2300 / 77 = 29.8701298701 :-).

Bungie love their 7s and 3s. As a forum poster pointed out (I’d never noticed), 7^3 = 343. I’m just waiting for the 7/8 prog-rock interpretation of the main theme :-P.

Have they ever had a daily challenge that consisted of doing a complete campaign mission? I looked at the old challenges and didnt run across any but im wanting to think i have done a couple. Myself i like the firefight and campaign challenges more than these. My son is just like you Snickerdoodle, he would rather play the multiplayer all day… I think i will go through a mission or two today even though there isnt a challenge for it. Man, the campaign is SOOO much easier now on legendary since i have completed the two LASO challenges! lol…:)

    • Mike says:

Yea dude, there have been plenty. Like on Feb. 4th we had:

Storm’s Comin’ – Complete a Campaign mission on Heroic or harder with Mythic and Thunderstorm on – 2750 cR

and they’ve even given us specific missions to complete, like on Dec 11th:

Mostly at Night – Complete Nightfall on Legendary without dying – 5000 cR

      • michael says:

Yeah man, thats what i want, some more of those. Like i have said before, i have been through the campaign 3 different times on normal, heroic and legendary. Pretty much the only reason i want a daily challenge that has to do with the campaign is so it will give me a reason to do some of it again.

    Mathew,

I really appreciate your efforts in discussing how best to get these challenges. As an older gamer (51), I really appreciate Halo Reach and how much more complex it is than the first few versions of Halo. It really demonstrates just how far the art form has evolved. Although I am not very good at multiplayer, I love this game and all of the maps that that provide me with many creative ways to die.

    Keep up the good work.

    Sincerely,

    Rob

Hey Matt thanks a lot for your effort!

Just with automatic weapons, does the repeater count as well? I thought it would, although I can understand if you didn’t put it in because it is very unpopular. I decided to start using it since there is a user who has his tool of destruction as the repeater with 2K + kills!

    • michael says:

Hmmmmm… myself i dont think that would count. I believe its pretty much the weapons that you hold down the the fire button and it burns through a clip by itself. But on the other hand, Matthew is the pro at knowing what to do and what works when it comes to the challenges! 😉

      • but the plasma repeater does that. hold it down and it overheats itself after a while – the covenant equivalent of a clip of ammo.

hmm, i’m intrigued. i’ll be getting on in a bit and i’ll test it out and let you know.

    • well then, isn’t that interesting? pretty sure it’s counting for me. it was a little hard to tell on that game but i made a point of just using the repeater after tossing a grenade in so the weapon would count. and my counter went up. 😉

  6. Kyle says:

Who’s idea was it to reward us for 77 kills of any variety with 2310 points, but only offer 1500 points for 100 kills restricted to automatic weapons? You’d think the harder challenge would get more points. Oh well, I’m not complaining!

  7. Mike says:

Are there any multiplayer maps (maybe in community slayer) that have the spiker?

Essentially what I want to know is, if the spiker is, or ever will be on a multiplayer map, will it count as an automatic weapon for this type of challenge/as a point toward the Trigger Man commendation?

    • the spiker? no, i don’t think i’ve seen it on maps in reach. halo 3, yes, it was one of my most used weapons. but not on any of these.
