15th March – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Wow what a mix, and if anyone was missing their LASO challenge they’ll enjoy today’s…

Blastin’ and Relaxin – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1350 cR

You’re best doing the necessary to complete the next challenges, then if you need to top up jump into a Gruntpocalypse/Score Attack type match to get your final kills.

A Friend in Need – Earn 10 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Courtyard all the way, especially on the Elites and Brutes. If you do 40% or more damage and someone else kills the enemy in 4 seconds you get an assist. So when you start seeing Elites and Brutes start hammering them (particularly using an overcharged Plasma Pistol on Elites) when there are other people clustered around you.

L.D. Spear – Complete Tip of the Spear, without dying, on Legendary with Mythic, Thunderstorm, Tilt, and Tough Luck on – 5000 cR

This post will help you get through the mission without dying. The two key tricks I would tell you to remember are a) grab a Banshee at the end and fly to the top of the Spire and bomb the heck out of the guys up there, as they’re tough, and b) if you die you can quickly save and quit then restart mission to go back to your last checkpoint without dying. In fact you can use this trick to get through the mission as normal, then quit out at the very end and restart to pick up the challenge. But then it’s not a challenge right?

Un, Deux, Trois – Win 3 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1450 cR

If you play a Team Slayer/SWAT/Grifball/Snipers etc you’ll get this easier, since only two teams gives you a higher chance of winning than the 6 person multi team (for instance). Make sure you read the Weekly Challenge commentary for more hints on doing it quick.

As ever if you have your own thoughts please add them in the comments.

Geeezzzz…. These are some awesome challenges! I didnt want to admit it but i have been missing the LASO challenges and i was able to get through all of them so i should be able to get this, i hope. I really like the mix today since there is something for everyone. I was wanting to ask if anyone was going to buy the Defiant map pack today. Im getting ready to download it now. Good luck on the challenges today everyone! 😉

    • Darth Malber says:

Not sure about the Defiant map pack. I bought the Noble map pack but hardly ever play those, except for Anchor 9 which comes up sometimes on Slayer and Swat matches.

      • i actually really really like anchor 9. it’s easily one of my favorites right now.

      • michael says:

Yeah anchor 9 is a fun map. I just did the new firefight map and its pretty good. Myself i think its a little big for a score attack run but still fun. 🙂

      • Trayer says:

I probably won’t get the Defiant map pack. The Firefight map would be my only desired content, but I don’t think that makes it worth it.

I’m actually really excited for the Defient map pack. I stayed up after midnight last night hoping it would go on sale then, but it didn’t. So I’ll be downloading it on my lunch break! 😀

  2. Kenji says:

For L.D. Spear: Grab another controller and play as the guest.

    • michael says:

If you sign in another controller and play as the guest and finish the mission, will it still give you the challenge? I thought about using the guest controller and hiding the one that i want to get the challenge on. If i do that does anyone know if you can die as the guest and still get the challenge as long as the main controller person doesnt die? Just wondering because i just tried this by myself and its rough. Its pretty much like mythic difficulty but without the blind on.

      • Trayer says:

Your guest can die, and you’ll still get the challenge as long as your main character doesn’t die. I personally find it easier to go solo and die as often as I need and just make sure to save and quit a the checkpoint I think is right before the end. Then you just have to not die during the very last portion of the mission (which can often be the most difficult).

      • michael says:

Ok one more question. If i play in single player i can die as much as i want without saving and resuming campaign, then after i pass the last checkpoint save and exit then resume campaign and as long as i dont die i will get the challenge? If this works i would say its the best way to do it. The problem i am having is im dying a lot and having to do the save and exit thing alot and its getting repetative. lol.

      • Trayer says:

Yep, just save and quit at the last one, then resume and don’t die. If you do die, save and quit and try again. I like it better than co-op because you can’t save your progress in co-op, and I don’t always have time to play through a level on Mythic / LASO in one sitting. Plus there’s always the chance that a similar challenge will come up later in the week, giving you a nice head start. And any other “kill ### with ??? in campaign” challenges can be done via co-op without wiping away your solo save point.

I downloaded the Defiant map pack but unlike the Noble map pack there is no option to play it in matchmaking. Does anyone know were to go to play the new maps?

    • Darth Malber says:

On the Game type list go to the bottom where it says “DLC”. Stands for downloadable content.

      • michael says:

That was the first thing i did and it only says Noble map pack. Thats why i asked since it wasnt in the DLC content.

    • it may not be live yet? i don’t know. i haven’t DL’ed the maps yet so i have no real idea. i know one of the maps is a FF map, have you looked in FF?

      • michael says:

Yeah some people wrote on the Bungie website that they havent updated the playlist yet. Thanks snickerdoodle.

      • that makes sense to me. i would imagine that they will wait a few days until most of the people have the new DLC before using resources for a new playlist. 🙂

      • Edward says:

I got the new FF Unearthed map in a Score Attack playlist, and did a 2x Score Attack on it. Nice map!

      • michael says:

The playlist is up now. Finally. I just played a game on one and did awful of course. 😉

  4. michael says:

I just completed the Tip Of The Spear challenge. I followed tyrants guide exactally. The only real problem i had was at the end when i was on the top of the spire with the sword elite. I took out all the grunts so it was just me and him. I tried to get him to fall off but that didnt work, so i waited for a few minutes and went in and he had his back to me and i assasinated him. If your having problems getting his back i found that overcharged plasma pistols drop his shields pretty quick so i would try that method if all else fails. Good luck everyone!

    • Don says:

This is my recommendation for anyone who does like Michael and I did and follow Tyrant’s guide. That last part of Tyrant’s guide is a lot easier if you don’t stay on one side like he does. The grunts normally watch your last known location. So move to the other side of the spire and you should catch them off guard for head shots on the FRG grunts. Just keep circling the spire outside killing grunts until the elite is the last one left. If things work just right you can either assassinate him or if he is in the inner chamber where you exit the lift to the top of the spire you can grab the FRG to kill him. The FRG will keep him from getting close while killing him. Should take 4 shots to take his shields down.

  5. Zakap says:

for those who are unable to do fire fight with a friend due to having an xbox360 slim 4 gig: i recommend getting a friend online and playing snipers. you can shoot one player to take down his shields and then your friend to finish him off. team work is great aint it?

    • dumb question – what does the version of the xbox have to do with not being able to play FF?

      • John says:

Not a dumb question, for some reason Firefight and online campaign co-op require a hard drive so if you don’t have one you can’t play either mode.

      • Zakap says:

Those who have the 4 gig and have baught a 250 hard drive and installed it dont have this problem. i also have a 8 gig jump drive formated for xbox storage but it still does not work. file browser is also unavailable for these users.

  6. Eric says:

It pisses me off that it didn’t clearly state you’re supposed to NOT DIE! It doesn’t clearly state it in the Title, only if you click on it does it IN SMALL PRINT (mission must be done without dying). I wasted my time doing this BS.

  7. someone says:

    >.> if you use the 20 gig hardrive from the old xbox. with some modifications, it works too. I don’t care if it’s “illegal”. It should be “illegal” to sell products that are inferior, and break down >.>

  8. Agoldsniper says:

DANGIT! Bungie friggin screwed me. 23/24 for weekly and I can not get past the stupid wraith on destruction of AA gun 2. Without dying are you serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would be fine if dying didn’t lose the challenge but seriously? Pisses me off!
