17th March – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

No Campaign mission because it’s Firefight Thursday. Two games, one Score Attack and one Gruntpocalypse, will see you get these today I reckon…

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1350 cR

As above two games completed will see you get this, and if you play them smart you’ll get the rest there too…

Hyper Lethal Vector – Kill 100 enemies with headshots in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

So your second game in Gruntpocalypse should see you get this, but just to make sure play one Score Attack (I prefer Corvette) and make sure you headshot the Grunts in the first wave and anyone else that you’re not taking out with a grenade…

Killagruntjaro! – Earn 10 multikills in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 1100 cR

10 multikills is easy, they stack so an Overkill counts as 3 multikills. In Gruntpocalypse you should get this in the first wave, and with a Score Attack ahead of that you’ve got lots of opportunities for Double Kills and more.

Blast Radius – Kill 40 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with grenades – 1000 cR

40 is quite high, but eminently do-able. As I said before headshot the Grunts in your first Score Attack game. Then make sure you know where they went down so you can grab their grenades in the ensuing waves. Particularly the Plasma Grenades are good on Brutes as they’re large targets to stick. Whichever map you’re playing make sure you know where the enemies spawn as you’ve got a good chance to get 4 or more kills straight away if you can camp those locations.

Once you’ve got your grenade kills switch back to headshots using the DMR or Pistol (or whatever’s your preference). If you’re not doing well on Grenade kills then perhaps go for headshots in Score Attack (particularly on the Elites) then grenade the starting locations for Grunts in a Gruntpoc map.

    Woah…dramatic credit drop from yesterday…

    I hate firefight Thursday

I’m starting to enjoy it a lot more than I did originally. 2x score attack is great because I can run around with the shotty and armor lock and blast away. This is also a good way to get the multi-kills challenge, but Rocketfight may be a better option. You can bust that one out with rockets in two waves.

  3. Edward says:

Well, it’s not a bad payout considering that you only need two games to get this. Did them both in 22 minutes, and earned over 8,000 cr. Nice going for a lunch break.

  4. Robert says:

two Gruntpocalyps and I was done..very, very easy today:-(

For all five I’d go first with Rocketfight on Courtyard. You can get a Killtacular at each drop site if your allies don’t steal it from you. As little as two blasts gets you the multikill challenge if you get the Killtacular or better each time. I’d then finish the game with as much grenade action as I can to hopefully get the 40 kills in. Then I’d finish up with Gruntpoc. I’ve gotten near 120 headshots on Gruntpoc Corvette, so that’s emminently doable. Two games should do it, maybe more if it takes longer for the grenade challenge.

Pretty stright forward challenges today – nothing too extraneous.

Since Matthew did a great job (as always) covering the challenges, just thought I’d let everyone know of a little something I stumbled upon last night. If you have some down time or are going to be away from your console for a bit and want to earn some free rewards for your avatar, go check out the app called Xbox 360 Labs. Basically, you get avatar awards for just letting your console sit there and send data to microsoft. Thirty minutes gets you a lab coat, an hour gets you a fairly cool hat, and six hours gets you an Einstein-like hair style. Personally, I didn’t care for the hair style or leaving my machine running Idle for six hours, so I collected the lab coat and hat and called it a win.

Just thought I’d share! Good luck on your challenges!

I like crashsite on courtyard for grenade kills because it has 2 dropships come by on each wave and you can get 6 on each side of the ship and on score attack you dont have to worry with someone else stealing your kills.

  8. Tim Everitt says:

Don’t forget, check out the near complete commendations as they pay out at each level, when you think the cR payout is weak. Pretty standard payout for the challenges listed.

Awesome. I finished the challenges in 2 games. The bad news is i was in a game of BTB snipers in the new map pack and my right stick on my Halo: Reach controller stopped working. Anyone know how to fix a problem like this?

    • what do you mean by stopped working? like it doesn’t move you at all? or it sticks and causes you to turn slightly?

i’ve taken my controller apart to clean it BUT that voids the warranty. depending on when you got it, you may try giving xbox a call and see what they say.

      • michael says:

The right stick feels fine but when you click it to zoom in it wont zoom. It clicks like it is supposed to but it wont zoom unless you push it down really hard. Everything else on it works fine. My son bought the Halo: Reach controller from walmart in December so i dont know if i have a warranty or not and im afraid to take it apart. I have 2 other controllers but its just the fact that its the Halo controller, which is mine and his favorite of course. 😉

      • justin says:

That sounds like you turned on clinch protection Micheal

      • oh michael trust me, i know about favorite controllers. why do you think i tried EVERYTHING to save mine? which isn’t made anymore and would cost me like $100 on ebay? 😉

i actually ended up voiding TWO controller warranties because i ultimately just switched casings. BUT both of those controllers are years old so way, way out of warranty anyways.

but definitely check the clinch protection thing first, that’s smart.

      • michael says:

Its not the clench thing. I checked it and i turned that controller off and the other one on and it works fine. I guess ive been using zoom too much and wore it out.lol.

My favorite place to do the grenade challenge is on Corvette, preferably in Arcade. Just hang around the doors where the Covenant come out and pop a grenade or two right inside; they go right thru, and grant you your kills!
