21st March – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Monday to Wednesday of course we get a nice range of Campaign, Firefight and Multiplayer challenges, so something for everyone…

Fire When Ready – Kill 50 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1500 cR

This is over any number of games, so no stress to push for it at once. 50 should only take a few games though, Multi-Team Battle is particularly good for getting a high number of kills in any one game, especially the objective based Crazy King and Oddball variants.

A Friend in Need – Earn 10 assists in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Courtyard all the way, especially on the Elites and Brutes. If you do 40% or more damage and someone else kills the enemy in 4 seconds you get an assist. So when you start seeing Elites and Brutes start hammering them (particularly using an overcharged Plasma Pistol on Elites) when there are other people clustered around you.

Leadership Element – Kill 45 enemy leaders in the Campaign today – 1100 cR

We’ve had this challenge a few times since I started the blog. Have a read of these three posts for my previous thoughts on this, I still say playing through The Package and The Pillar of Autumn, particularly from later Rally Points for each will see you well. The ONI: Sword Base credit farming trick with the Target Designator can work well if you can trap one or two Leaders in the beam each time. Also might be worth doing the Weekly Challenge first then mopping up any more Leaders you need for this having completed that challenge.

Flat Tire – Kill 10 enemy vehicles in Firefight Matchmaking – 1125 cR

Holdout is a good option for this because you’re guaranteed a Banshee each game, and if you take it out quick (Sniper Rifle in the crow’s nest) then you can get several. Beachhead and Outpost do have some vehicles dropped, 2X Score Attack has been reported to do well here, although sometimes there are none sometimes there are 4 or 5.

Usually Monday housekeeping – if you want to get notifications of these posts please follow me on Twitter, join the Facebook group or subscribe using the option on the right. If you have any thoughts or tips please share them with the group in the comments section.

I’d love multi-team if they’d just ban Rocket Race. Don’t get me wrong; rocket race can be a lot of fun. But sometimes that’s all anyone ever votes for so it’s hard when you’re going for the kill-completion challenges. They should put Rocket Race under the Community category along with Griffball.

For Flat Tire, the Score Attack modes on Holdout can get you all/most of the way in 3 games. My favourite mode for this is Sniper Fight with jet pack as you can always get away to kill the banshee quickly (I stay up in the catwalk at the back right). FRG attack is too annoying as you get swarmed while trying to kill them, Rocket Fight has the banshees maneuvering to avoid the rockets. I think 2x Score Attack has the problem where some weapons kill the pilot before the banshee so you don’t get the kill…

Be careful which weapon you use killing the vehicles – in Fistfight, the turret won’t count and in some modes with 2x damage, a DMR kill won’t count as the driver is counted as been killed first. Sniper rifle, rockets, and spartan laser always count if you aim for the vehicle body. Usually grenade sticks and FRG cells count as well.

Finally. if a covenant gets on the turret in the centre of the map, shoot the turret (not the covenant) to get a bonus vehicle kill.

lifeexpectancy wrote a great guide for this:

        Reply fail again :-(.

I’m with you on the rocket race playlist though.

    I would actually appreciate a racing playlist…

Regarding the leadership challenge, I finished the weekly with only 9 and got the rest in one playthrough of Swordbase on normal, and have a couple of things to offer, one of which I’m sure is consistant and helps a lot.
First, the banshees at the end count as leaders.
Next is another target designator trick (not the quit and reload one) that I’ve never seen mentioned but it works for me so here goes – if you only ever use it once, it will replenish in the next ‘area’. So, use it once to kill the two wraiths, and when you arrive at the AA gun bit you’ll have two shots again. Use one and you’ll then have two again at the outpost building (useful for when the skirmishers get dropped). Then when the rail-gun hog is dropped you suddenly have two again, etc etc. However, if you use both shots in one ‘area’ it will not replenish in the next. I’ve done this numerous times on both normal and heroic (not tried on legendary) and it works every time.

For the Flat Tire challenge i did 3 games of firefight score attack on Holdout. I would recommend you veto the maps til you get sniper fight on Holdout. The reason i say this is because i chose 2x score attack a few times before i was able to get the sniper fight and you can kill the banshee with the DMR but it doesnt count for the challenge. I even picked up a sniper rifle from the weapon drop and shot it with that and it still didnt give it to me. The first game of sniper fight i got 3 banshees, second game i got 4 and the 3rd game i got 4. Definately the way i am going for the up coming Flat Tire challenges! 🙂
