26th March – Halo Reach Daily Challenge Commentary

Shootin’ and Lootin’: Kill 150 enemies in any game mode in Reach (1125cR)

You’ll probably get this, or very close to it, through the other challenges; it’s not a particularly tricky one if you ask me, and Firefight is probably your best option.

  • Gruntpocolypse – approximately 125 grunts in one handy dandy firefight session just watch out for those AI betrayals for stealing your kills
  • Firefight – Download IGN’s Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills

I know that there are a lot of people who want to get these done quick so here are the lazy-man versions:

  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • The Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Explosive Ordnance Distribution:  Earn 7 kills with ordnance weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game (1400cR)

It should be a heavy weapon so we’re looking at:
  • Rocket Launcher, Spartan Laser & Grenade Launcher for the human weapons
  • Plasma Launcher and Concussion Rifle for the covvie weapons

Good game types / maps:

  • Rocket Race provided that you’re good with a lock on!
  • Invasion Slayer
  • Highlands BTB – the rocket respawn time is awesome, and the games seem to last forever;
  • Reflection with the Rocket Launcher, Countdown again with the Concussion Rifle
  • Cage with the Plasma Launcher / Grenade launcher
Short, Controlled Bursts: Kill 200 enemies with automatic weapons in the Campaign today (1500cR)
Automatic weapons are those that fire repeatedly, namely the Assault Rifle, Plasma Repeater, Plasma Rifle, Needler and Spiker. In Campaign you want a mission with lots and lots of enemies quickly. As usual, Winter Contingency’s a good one as it’s not too hard, and the enemies come quickly. Stick to Normal difficulty so you don’t have to spend too long. There are tricks in some places like Rally Point Bravo on The Package where you can get a checkpoint just before a group of Grunts so you can take out 5 quickly, then restart checkpoint and do it again.
Iron Will: Complete a Campaign mission alone on Heroic or harder with the Iron Skull on (2500cR)

Iron restarts the mission if you die, so be very careful here. The main trick is that if you do quickly save and quit the mission, then restart it and the challenge will be active again from your last checkpoint. Winter Contingency is good to do because we should all be experts at it now, or Nightfall, since you can use various tricks to get through it barely firing anything.

And finally…

I confess that my motives for helping out with Matthews blog for this weekend did give me a slightly sneaky change to plug one of the Halo Community Events which is taking place at 19:00 GMT so without further a do…

For the Explosive Ordinance challenge, I recommend Team Slayer on Sword Base. You get both the concussion rifle and grenade launcher on one map, should make it at least a bit easier to get to 7.

I really dont look forward to doing the Ordnance Weapon challenge. Im sure that everyone that we play with today will be fighting over the weapons. I have noticed that on the map Boardwalk there are a rocket launcher and a plasma launcher down at the bottom and not alot of people go for these weapons. Usually when i get this map i wind up getting both of them at the same time, but im sure today will be different. Have a great day everyone!

Find a group of 3 or 4 for your preferred game type and play until everyone gets the challenge. Certainly a pain in the ass if you try to get it flying solo.

      • this is probably the best idea. i don’t even like playing solo much in team games because i always seem to get paired up with dipsticks and they don’t do what they’re supposed to. or at least, what i expect them to do. :p

love playing with my squad though, they’re the best. 🙂

Just got the Explosive Ordnance challenge with the concussion rifle on Countdown. Admittedly, it took quite a few matches of Team Slayer to finally get it. Not a big deal, as I intended to play quite a bit today anyway, but if you’re strapped for time it might be best to skip this one.

  3. Braythor says:

Not a bad day’s challenges. Might skip the ordnance one though as I don’t really have any friends on Live so it’ll be a pain solo. Up for the firefight thing, I should be around at 7 for a bit. Don’t have a headset though, but that shouldn’t matter, I’ll just play nice (as I always do…). And if anyone wants to add me, gt’s the same as my name on here. Bungie link:

I will be around for the firefight evening, you’re welcome to send me a message & let me know if you want to play as it looks like I may be hostessing a second lobby if we have enough players 🙂 my GT is V 4 Volcanicity

Best of luck with the other challenges

      • i so wish i didn’t lag out of FF games! damn italian internet. 😦

      • michael says:

The Explosive Ordinance challenge is a pain for sure. I tried a few games but everyone gets to the weapons before i do so i think i will wait to get this one when my friend gets home from work so we can help each other on it. What exactally is the Firefight thing? Ever since i have been coming to this site i thought it would be cool for all of us to get on sometime and play together. 🙂

      • Braythor says:

Ok cheers. I’m going for dinner at a mates but if people are still on when I get back I’ll join in. For now I’m going to sit smugly at the cheeky game of griffball I just had – only 3 on my team but only 2 of the other team were playing, so I just ran up to their side and hammer-spammed them for killionaire, wrecking crew (if only it’d happened yesterday), running riot and 42 kills. Unsportsmanlike? Probably, but do I care? HA, not a bit.

Firefight community night will be starting in about 15 / 20 mins, expecting to play for a couple of hours… shout me with my GT as per above and we can play some games 😀

    • michael says:

I keep forgetting a lot of you on here are in a different country. I live in Tennessee and its 2:00pm here right now. lol. I have a headset but really dont know where it is but i might join you. I guess it all depends on if my son is being good or not. lol.

      • michael says:

If i cant play with you today maybe some other time? My GT is DR HIGGLESTEIN.

  5. Andrew says:

The Explosive Ordinance challenge is cake if you have the defiant map pack. Just wait until you get a game on Highlands. I did mine on multi CTF. Grab the rocket launcher or plasma launcher as quickly as you can and play some solid defense with them. I got this challenge knocked out less than 4 minutes into that match.

If you can get that one, the others should be even easier for you!

    Goodluck everyone!

  6. John says:

Bad timing on the Firefight community night as I’ve been on shift, will hopefully catch the next one.

    John
