28th March – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Right, time to get our Dedication over Time on…

Gunslinger – Kill 75 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2250 cR

Grifball as ever for high kill volumes (assuming everyone’s playing along not scoring to get the weekly challenge). You can get 30, 40, 50 and more kills in a good game when you have your timing and eye in with the hammer. I imagine there are guys out there who will be able to get this challenge in one game.

Blast Radius – Kill 40 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with grenades – 1000 cR

Two strategies for you here – either Gruntpocalypse on Corvette and throw grenades at the Grunt spawn rooms (particularly those to the left and right of the ramps opposite your spawn room), then when you get grenades from the Grunts you kill use grenades when they come into the pinch point corridors. Or play Firefight on Courtyard, run to the left out of the spawn room and from the terrace you can usually get up to 5 or 6 dudes with grenades when they’re dropped off.

J.H. Death Machines – Kill 40 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with the Grenade Launcher – 1000 cR

Score Attack for this one. One of the loadouts is the Grenade Launcher, so grab that and go nuts. The waves are Grunts, Jackals, Brutes, Skirmishers and finally Elites.

Survivor – Earn 9 Sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

Sprees are hard for weapons, and can be really difficult in Firefight. I reckon a Gruntpocalypse game, get the 50 kills medal, then die and do another 50. You get 120 kills in Gruntpoc so it’s an easy way to do it. If you can get kills using weapons (ie 5 grenade sticks, a shotgun, sniper rifle etc) then you get nearer the total – use Score Attack to get a range of weapons. Beachhead is quite good as you can use the vehicles to get more sprees – and now on Firefight Arcade you’ve got a good chance of using a variety of weapons, lots of killing sprees and grenades and the like.

These should be pretty easy today. For the 9 sprees challenge i would recommend a 2X score attack game, that way you have different weapons to use in each loadout. Myself i prefer the shotgun along with plasma grenades for sprees. As for the grenade launcher challenge, im just glad that this is a firefight challenge and not a multiplayer challenge since im horrible with the grenade launcher. lol. You should have seen me when i was trying to get the heavy ordinance challenge the other day, there was grenades flying all over the place! 😉

Either that or a fistfight variant.

I agree, I think the Gruntpoc recommendation that’s still given is outdated now as it’s pretty much impossible to get it on a specific level (unless you have a massive amount of patience) and 2x score attack is generally better anyway. For the challenges today it’s almost possible to get all the FF ones in a single game of 2x Score Attack, annoyingly I was slightly out on grenade kills but quickly sorted that on one more game.

I find grenade kills very easy on 2x score attack – you’ve got the slow, moving large Brutes to sticky away and the final run of cloaked elites are very easy to sticky. One shot to knock out their shield which stuns them giving you an easy sticky, if they run at you then your 2x shield keeps you alive.

This also means you can fairly easily get the sprees without needing to die, stickying the elites/brutes gives you a sticky spree, you can nick their sword for a sword spree, you’ve got your normal killing sprees (easy to maintain with the enhanced shield), you may be able to get a hammer off the brutes and there’s also the chance for some vehicular manslaughter on some maps as well.

  2. Corpral Alexei says:

Anyone know if kills with the grenade launcher count as kills for the Blast Radius challenge as well?

    • Matthew Vose says:

No they don’t. The Launcher is a heavy weapon, so doesn’t count as Grenades.

    • higglestein says:

It would be nice if it did but no, it does not count.

      • Corpral Alexei says:

Oh well…..who needs short cuts when playing each game is actually the fun part, irrespective of earning credits. Though I will need to be disciplined to ensure that I complete 24 challenges this week. Looks like I will be putting the kids to bed early for the next few days!!

  3. Braythor says:

Happy to see a few firefight ones, shame two are the worst kind; I’m not keen on the either the launcher or the grenade one. Also a shame I’ve maxed out my Get Loud commendation…Was going to skip them until I saw the weekly. A good option for the three FF ones is nadefight, you load out with infinite grenade launcher and 4 of each grenade. Just gotta hope it comes up and gets voted for. Anyone wants to work on it message me (gt Braythor), I’ll be on later this afternoon/early evening (GMT).

  4. one game of score attack on courtyard got me:

    -Survivor complete
    -the 40 ‘nade launcher kills
    -half my regular grenade kills
    -Get Loud onyx

    very nice payday.

    • meant to add:

started with the grenade launcher load out, got about half the survivor that way then when i died, switched to shot gun just in time for the brutes and got the rest that way. then i camped in the spawn room waiting for the skirmishers to come find me. i hate skirmishers oh so very much.

    • and finished the grenade kills on corvette AND leveled up another commendation. such a good day.

    • higglestein says:

That sounds just like the game i had. I started with the grenade launcher and finished with the shotgun. Got the survivor, grenade launcher and 20 of the grenade kills. lol.

  5. brightenheezy says:

for the 9 sprees in a game challenge, sniperfight is for sure the easiest…not only do you add up sniper sprees but you pile on killing sprees as well…just try not to die too often, haha
