6th April – Reach Daily Challenges Commentary

Another mix, another slight slog but in multiplayer today…

Gunslinger – Kill 150 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2750 cR

We’ve only had a target of 150 a couple of times, and it was only 1500 credits on those occasions! Grifball as ever for high kill volumes. You can get 30, 40, 50 and more kills in a good game when you have your timing and eye in with the hammer. I imagine there are guys out there who will be able to get this challenge in one game.

Killagruntjaro! – Earn 10 multikills in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 1100 cR

In Gruntpocalypse (or indeed 2x Score Attack or whatever’s your preference) this is so easy. The enemies come out of the doors/dropships/appear in groups of 5 or so, and you can easily shoot 3 or 4 of them straight away. Multikills do stack so an Overkill counts as 3 – double, triple and 4 kills. Therefore just play the game and take them out when you see them together.

Just a Shower – Complete any campaign mission on normal or harder with Thunderstorm on – 2000 cR

Thunderstorm ups the rank of enemies, so Grunts usually have helmets, Elites are smarter and so on. As usual with a Campaign challenge go for Winter Contingency if you want to play a quick level, or Nightfall if you want to speed run through and use the Forklift trick to do it super quick.

Triple Thrill – Earn any 3 sprees in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

This should apply to any spree, not just kills. So you can get sprees using:

  • Hammer
  • Shotgun
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Plasma Grenade sticks
  • Sword
  • Vehicles (two here – kills in vehicle where you do the killing, and kills as driver with passenger killing)
  • Spartan Laser
  • Assists
  • Some for specific variants of Juggernaut, Invasion and Infection

See the list on Halopedia for everything. What’s easiest to get? Well trying to get 5 kills with a Hammer, Sword or Shotgun nets you two straight away. Through in some Grenade sticks and you’ll be there. Vehicles might be another easy way to do it in Invasion, team up with someone so you can work on your assist levels too. Grifball of course is a good one if you can get your Hammering eye in and take out a load of guys in a row.

I’ve found that Infection is the best game type for “Triple Thrill” because you can get a Killing Spree, Zombie-Killing Spree and Shotgun Spree all at once, plus you get three rounds to try.

    • Shobaleader One says:

i agree, 5 shotty kills in 1 round shouldn’t be too difficult if you get a decent camping spot where the zombies tend to bottle neck – the lift room on sword base, the building entrance on pinnacle, round the corner from the lift on countdown etc.

    • Pirate Drummer says:

Just get regular infection and not Safe Havens. Zombies can survive a shotgun blast in SH.

    • EyeOhYou (Andrew) says:

Totally agree. I am far from an Infection pro (I’ve only played it a handful of times to this point) but in my very first match I was able to get the following:

      x1 Overkill
      x1 Killing Frenzy
      x1 Hell’s janitor
      x1 Open Season

A total of six sprees if you count the lower levels of the three listed, and they came very easily. My advice – try to get a game on reflection. I was able to set up shop on the lower level in one of the little nooks that has the soda machine in it and just blow everyone away.

      Good hunting!

I hate guys like you LOL! Been trying for over an hour, and just keep missing it by one kill.

      • Tim Everitt says:

        So You were that person…

  2. Shobaleader One says:

the multikills challenge can be completed easily using rocketfight, ridiculously easily

    • brightenheezy says:

likewise with FRG attack…achieved in the first 30 seconds, lol

    • Darth Malber says:

Very true. Matthew has to update this and stop copy/pasting when this challenge comes up. This one can be done with a few blasts at the drop zones on Courtyard.

      • comments and other methods are encouraged which is where alternative methods are an option. if we list every.single.way. some of these challenges are attainable, the posts would be a mile and a half long and then people would say TL;DR.

his method isn’t inherently wrong and neither are yours. just different strokes for different folks. 🙂

      • Darth Malber says:

Yes, but… Gruntpoc isn’t the best way to get multi-kill badges. It is possible to get double kills, but the more efficient way to get stackable multi-kills is with heavy weaponry that has splash damage. The DMR just doesn’t fit this bill. The shotgun in 2x score attack is ok, but again a rocket launcher was better. FWIW, voting came down to fistfight and I was able to get this with the gravity hammer, but again this is a weapon with a relatively good area effect.

      • Matthew Vose says:

Okay guys, yes FF team games can be faster, but so many people I speak to have problems running FF Arcade or Limited, it being incredibly laggy and difficult to play. I’ve had matches where there’s a 3 or 4 second gap between pressing shoot and the gun actually firing. Never seen anything like that in Score Attack so that’s my recommendation.

I’ll throw both in next time it seems appropriate, but if all I did was recommend FF team then I’d get even more criticism for it being a difficult mode to play. If you look at today’s comments someone says it’s insanely laggy and unplayable normally.

Besides the 150 multiplayer kills, which is just time consuming, the rest of these challenges are easy money. The 10 firefight multikills can literally be completed in less than two minutes in a rocketfight. The campaign challenge is just a matter of going through the motions, and the 3 sprees in one game challenge can be done in infection or grifball easily. I got lucky in a game of grifball where the only kid playing on the other team quit so there were 3 people just standing there, so my team took advantage of it and everyone got their 3 sprees. I’m not proud of it, but whatever, it saved me from going to get 3 sprees in infection.

Has anybody gotten the weekly challenge yet? I haven’t even attempted it yet and probably won’t just to save myself the frustration/time.

    • michael says:

I was able to finally get it lastnight. It was definately rough! The part right before you get to the room with the turret gun was the hardest part for me. I spent hours trying to kill 3 elites! I tried plasma pistol and needle rifle combo time after time and it didnt work, then finally i got frustrated and ran in there with the sword and assasinated 2 of them and ran from the other one. Got the checkpoint then hopped in the pelican gun. The rest was history. Good luck getting through it! 🙂

    • Lex (RevOfEv EcHELoN) says:

Just finished it after a grueling hour and a half i’ve never been happier to get a weekly done!!! Did it with four people although i would advise 2 since with four players you’ll be dying more often. The turret gun on the pelican didn’t even work I tried hopping in it but it wouldn’t let me. Maybe you cant do it with four people. However we managed to eventually outsmart the 4 elites of the Apocalypse……….Tip for those trying to have a full RL when you breach the corvette in the beginning at the beach instead of destroying the wraith just take the gunner out and use it. Use it to keep away the covenant and keep blasting the marines for rocket ammo. Good luck to whoever still needs to do this mission. I started the week thinking I would skip this all together but here I am so dont give up if you’re stuck at a frustrating part take a 5 min break discuss your strategy and remember its way easier outsmarting an elite rather than outgunning one. Good Luck!!!!

  4. david says:

You can get it easily in bro slayer if you have a friend spawn on you when they die.

  5. wbs Skatanic says:

Ah man. I spent all of yesterday trying to get that Triple Thrill challenge, and for some reason I just couldn’t! It didn’t even occur to try Infection. Just managed to get it in the last 10 minutes, PHEW. Thanks guys 😛
