Commentaries are below if you click ‘Read More’…

Light Fare – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1000 cR

If you want to do this specifically (as you’ll probably getting it just playing for the next challenges) then jump into something on Score Attack, maybe Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or Fiesta Attack to get it done quickly and rack up the kills.

Pass the Rock – Earn 20 assists today in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1500 cR

You can get lots of assists in Multi-Team, mostly because a number of firefights always open up, especially in Crazy King or Oddball. I’ve used Team Slayer for assists in the past which isn’t bad, and Rumble Pit is also worth trying. We’ve not had an assist challenge for a while so I’ve not used the Action Sack games for it – any thoughts from the group about what works well?

Not as Clumsy or Random… – Earn 5 kills with precision weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

When it’s a Star Wars reference about Lightsabers you know it’s also going to be a Precision weapon challenge. Jump into a Team SWAT match, take out some guys and it’s an easy top up of 1000 credits.

Just a Shower – Complete any Campaign mission on Normal or harder with Thunderstorm on – 2000 cR

Thunderstorm ups the rank of enemies, so Grunts usually have helmets, Elites are smarter and so on. As usual with a Campaign challenge go for Winter Contingency if you want to play a quick level, or Nightfall if you want to speed run through and use the Forklift trick to do it super quick. If you’re clever you saved the last checkpoint of Exodus from the Weekly Challenge so it’s entirely possible you could load that up and rock on with it.

Pretty easy range of challenges today, a little bit mixed but only the Assists are likely to be a pain. But that’s just an excuse for lots of multiplayer and eventually you should get there.

Well as my eagerly awaited headset didn’t arrive today I think I’ll try and get the weekly done, it does tie in nicely with today’s challenges, assuming completing it will also complete the Just a Shower one. Can anyone confirm it will?

    • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

Yes, it should. I remember there was a daily challenge a while back that was something like finish a campaign mission on heroic or harder with either the Thunderstorm or Iron skull on. It came up in the middle of the week when there was a LASO challenge for the weekly. I did the weekly that day and it gave both of the challenges to me.

  2. Chris Atreides says:

I’d rather go face down a slide of razor blades then do another LASO challenge. What happened to 200 rounds of FF or 200 Multi Kills? These campain weekly challenges are garbage!!!

    Happy Easter!!!

    • Phil says:

I’m going to have to disagree with you, young master Atreides. 😉

I’m one of those guys who immediately plays through the campaign on Legendary whenever a new Halo game is released. Not that I’m very good, just tenacious. 🙂

After having struggled through the campaign with no guidance, I find it fascinating to see how the collective experience of Halo nation, as summarized in Tyrant’s Mythic Guide, has devised novel strategies to fight or even bypass each battle.

I only wish there were a way to save two simultaneous campaigns so that a LASO challenge that takes multiple days wouldn’t stop me from playing other campaign challenges…

      • Chris Atreides says:

I like it, you motivated me to jump back into the nightmare and follow Tyrant’s guide. One chapter left to go. And I totally agree with the two save. Because the way they include campain challenges during the week forces you to have to do the “weekly” challenge in a day. Viva Reach!!!

  3. Chris Atreides says:

And I woudl want the pool full of battery acid…LOL

  4. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I went with Tip Of The Spear for the Just A Shower challenge. I had to do something different since im worn out on Winter Contingency and Nightfall. lol. After doing all the LASO missions so far, this was a piece of cake. 🙂 The only one i am having problems with is the Assist challenge. I may have to get my son in a game with me and work on assists. Good luck everyone!

  5. Subject 6x says:

I think the easiest way to get the assist challenge will be on invasion, just because when u spawn as an elite u can have a Plasma pistol overcharge it, and let people have the kill. I personally use invasion for most of the challenges simply because you will spawn with something geared for the challenge sooner or later, I got all the challenges done yesterday in 3 games of invasion

  6. Matt says:

We’ve not had an assist challenge for a while so I’ve not used the Action Sack games for it – any thoughts from the group about what works well?

Within Action sack, I think Power Slayer is about on par with any Team Slayer type, maybe slightly better for assists because nobody starts with a DMR. Hockey is not great for assists because of the ridiculous amount of damage you have to do to strip someone’s shields, but I guess if you pepper someone with the AR long enough to pop their shields and your teammate grabs a quick melee that would work. If someone Yoinks your assassination every time you might be able to pick up a number of assist in a Hockey game, but the games tend to be too chaotic for this to occur regularly. Haloball Extreme is probably decent for assists and will slot in as better than Grifball in that regard because the inclusion of shields means you won’t kill someone with a slightly misplaced hammer strike.

I’ve come to really like the Thunderstorm skull: if you play a headshot-centric style in campaign, as basically everyone does, it adds an extra headshot for grunts and a few extra for Brute -> Brute Captain upgrades but doesn’t make Jackals, Drones, or Hunters any harder. Elite Ultras are a pain, of course, but you should be shooting Elites from cover most of the time anyway so the weapon and shield upgrades are a mere annoyance. Thunderstorm also doesn’t buff enemies in scripted scenarios (end of Winter Contingency and The Pillar of Autumn) so it often doesn’t make the most difficult parts of missions more difficult. Thunderstorm seems primarily to be a pain in the butt where you have upgraded enemies and a scarcity of DMR ammo, chiefly on parts of Exodus and The Pillar of Autumn.

On that note, though, I’m really starting to appreciate the value of bringing along a NR in addition to or rather than a DMR where I know there will be a lot of unshielded enemies. One supercombine kills Brute Captains on Heroic, and shooting near Grunts and Jackals turns them into bedwetters that leap to the side and in doing so stop firing and open themselves up to headshots. The higher rate of fire and apparently slightly longer accurate range over the DMR also makes it useful against Elites using Evade, and you can actually use it to provoke higher-ranking Brutes and Elites into Armor Lock once their shields go down, buying you time to re-position. Hmmm….maybe the NR is actually better than the DMR in campaign. Counterpoints?

    • Pirate Drummer says:

If you can work with a teammate on hockey, get them to yoink you. That way, you get an assist and they get +1 on their “Jack of All Traits” commendation.

    • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I know what you mean. Up until about a week or so ago every time i did a campaign mission the DMR was my favorite weapon. Now after doing this last LASO challenge i have grown to like the Needle Rifle better for the same reasons you stated. Only thing i like better about the DMR is it zooms in more, but thats about it. They seem to be equal when it comes to power.

    • Coolguy says:

So true…NR in my opinion is better than DMR…more accurate, more shots in the clip, supercombine adds power…i dont even think the dmr has the better range/zoom i think its the same…and if tilt is on the NR is unaffected, unlike the dmr….its brilliant…:D

      • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

Yeah the DMR zooms in a little more than the Needle Rifle. Equip both of them and focus on something while zoomed in and switch. Its not a lot of difference when it comes to zoom. I actually noticed it for the first time while playing on Tip Of The Spear. The part about half way through it when you drive the Warthog to the bridge right before they say there is an Elite Zealot in the area. I had both weapons equipped and went to snipe the 2 skirmishers in the distance. I couldnt get a good headshot with the Needle Rifle, but the DMR gave me just enough zoom to get the headshots in 1 go.

  7. Steve says:

Multi-team is the best for assists, lots of firefights happening.

  8. Jetpack333 says:

    Do wheelmen Count as assists???

  10. Erik Shititicoch says:

Yee-haw cowboy, let’s get these done. Yeehaw

  11. Daniel Maloney says:

When you’re trying to complete the campaign challenges, will the challenge not be complete if you have 1 or more local players? For example: today’s “Just A Shower” or “Exodus: LASO”

  12. Brady Cook says:

The Forklift challenge still does work, But when you get a certain distance after you cross the Gate it makes you go back to the gate and then it loads all of the enemies. So it really doesn’t help you that much anymore.
