Halo Reach Weekly Challenge & Commentary – w/c 2nd May

This week’s challenge is below, click Read More to view the commentary:

New Alexandria: LASO – Complete New Alexandria, Legendary, All Skulls On (LASO) – 16000 cR

If you click on Read More you can also read the commentary on this challenge…

New Alexandria, how I love thee. The objectives come in random order, flying a Falcon is like driving a Scorpion in 3D (I adore the Scorpion so much), and that Hospital section is a great piece of game design, it’s like a combination of a third person game type and elements of Two Betrayals from Halo: CE. Plus we finally have the Reflection map used in Campaign, and the nightclub is the same as the Firefight map in Halo: ODST. All in all this is a really wonderful mission, even in LASO.

The basic concept for the challenge is complete the mission on close to Mythic difficulty (Mythic is all of this challenge, in solo, without dying). I won’t post a full walkthrough here, because frankly the best one you can use is actually on Halo.Bungie.Org by Tyrant. As usual with these if you do die then quickly pause, save and exit, then restart from last checkpoint, so you don’t go back to the start of the mission.

Usually now you don’t need the Blind skull on – as ever can I get confirmation of this in the comments please?

If you have any tips on how to complete this challenge more easily, please throw them in the comments section for everyone to use.

With only a couple of missions left to do, our next stop in 2 weeks will be The Package. I can’t say much on that levels, except… Eek.

Do you want to know how to get notifications of these challenge commentaries? Well it’s easy… you can follow me on Twitter, join the Facebook group or just subscribe to the site using the option on the right.

The blind skull is not on when you go to “the appropriate lobby” for it 😀

    • Solarus says:

      • Solarus says:

Finally managed doing it solo. Use the banshee in the hospital glitch + dancing brutes/grunts glitch, & flying the falcon into the 3rd building and having 2x sprint.
For the last bit I focused on the shades so everything else would go away. This challenge got me halfway through major g3

  4. British GM says:

In the last section, you can do the pelican easter egg and simply ram the shades off the towers. Since the Pelican just won’t blow up, its a clear winner!

    • Justin says:

Also, if you are really efficient at taking out the Shades you won’t have too much problem with the Banshees since they turn tail and run when you take the last one out.

  5. Edward (GT: Marshy 40) says:

Matthew, I can confirm that the Blind Skull does not have to be on. I loaded up the campaign from the Challenges page, and it only turned on the 12 other skulls.

  6. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I am following Tyrants guide exactally and i am having problems. I get the objective to go to the place that is the reflection map in MM and hit that jammer but when i leave and go to the hospital to hit the switch for the disco easter egg its not there. Do i have to keep restarting the mission until the next objective after the reflection place is the virant tower? Atleast thats what i think its called anyways. lol.

    • Justin says:

It should be there regardless of the order you do the mission in. I did a normal Legendary run-through yesterday to refamiliarize myself with the level, had the hospital first and Vyrant last, and the switch was still there.

      • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

Ok thanks. I got the switches flipped and did the club thing. Now im off to the Hospital.

  7. Arrogantprophet says:

Hey, i realy like your site and thank you for doing it.
I completed the last LASO with Blind OFF, so no worries there.

  8. cubedude925 says:

Heard we killed Bin Laden yesterday!
    Go Amurca!

This is the easiest mission, but Iron makes everything worse. I had a few deaths when i did this on solo legendary, but you may want a few friends with you when you do this, because then they can see out the side of the falcon, since the marines and the covenant have a limited “shoot” range but a farther See Range. This is a great mission, but the Easter Egg Errera is the best. You should visit the club after hitting the first button just to hear it. I did this, but havent put this in my file share (Check me out on bungie.net) I also have a cool FF Hunter vs Hunted Game type that i used to get the last weekly with on sunday. Took us all of 20 minutes of just destroying hunters!

I love the ease of use this site has, but sometimes i visit here on my e-reader and it would help to have the links pop up in the same tab as the site, because mult tabs aren’t supported on my e-reader’s browser.

I am a huge fan of the mythic community, and i used tyrant’s guide to work through every level on plain Legendary, which is the best way in my opinion. Just check out some of the new tips and tricks (like using armor lock to flip the gauss warthog instead of grenades or beating on Oni sword base. Much safer.

Well, that’s it for now. I’d like to say more, but lunch break is nearly over.

Gamertag is my name, and i’m garunteed to be on this weekend for the Laso and would love to give some help. If you send me a message, don’t expect a return until fri night, and please tell me that you saw my post or whatever. I have yet to get a Laso completed for credits, and would like to get this before *Shudders*
The Package or the pillar of autumn

  10. Shobaleader One says:

this guide is FAR superior to Tyrant’s guide in my opinion, if you’re happy to restart the mission if you don’t get the hospital on the first or second time that is.

i also have a trail run i did of it in my file share (with iron skull turned off), which is the same gamertag as my name on here where i got it in 31 minutes with a few ‘revert to last checkpoint’s’

  11. mobber says:

this may help with the hospital part. i hope there are better ways to hijack a banshee.

  12. CallUpChuck says:

Another confirmation for Blind skull off, completed Exodus LASO 2 weeks ago with it off.

@mobber The banshee trick is useful, but it’s such a pain to hijack one, especially when any failed attempts is usually death. Any tips?

When you first load NewAlex, there is a certain order that you do these minigames (the Hospital jammer is first). But if you revert to saved right when you start, you get a new set of missions (Club Errera is first). I’m not sure if this works with the Iron skull on. Or if this change of order is of any use.

So I found an exploit for the pelican easter egg. Since you are ‘nearly’ invincible in the pelican and there isn’t a time limit, you can hover around indefinitely and rack up points/commendations. I did it LASO except iron and black eye (about 1400 points per banshee) and racked up a high score of 4.2 million. I left my xbox on for a whole day though :O

Though I would like to co-op the campaign, I have the 4GB flash drive xbox so no online campaign/firefight for me 😦

  13. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

Well i think im screwed. I went to the hospital, took out all the Brutes, gathered up DMR ammo and Plasma ammo, flipped the switch and was ready for the jet-packing elites and…Nothing. No jet-packing elites? Well i went on with my active Camo and took out the Skirmishers and the Concussion Wielding Elite and started up the stairs to my beautiful getaway. Or so i thought. As i started up the stairs i was met by 6 of the jet-packing elites. Just awesome. So now i have to take out these guys now? Wow.. Just terrible. Im gonna have another go at it later tonight and see how i can get through this. Any tips? Oh and i already tried to use the active Camo to sneak by them and its not happening. By the time i got up the first set of stairs it went away and i ate it big time. lol.

  14. Garr Komtaree says:

Easy pickings this week for me and my friends. This is one of my most favourite levels so I’m going to be helping my friends through it, luckily enough I’m a great pilot through this level.

and to all who said the sub missions in this level are in order, you my friends are dead wrong. There are 3 main parts to the mission and 7 sub missions. 7 Joke intended as its bungies number.

any way you want to try to stay away from escorting that pathetic ODST buck as he will most likely get you killed, so face towards the sub mission locations you know of and like, also going straight to the next building you want to face after a submission is the way to go especially because you can “Goose Guard” the doors the enemies come out of which is incredibly useful in the Sinovet tower cause of the Focus rifle sniper jackal and the Concussion rifle brute, damn him.

also my main hint for this is to do it with friends and NOT on your own, keep a good pilot in the seat and use the grenadier falcon as it has mega turrets 🙂

And FYI the pelican can have a gunner, like in lnos just drop a marine before you head through the egg shaped tower, mega Joke there as it is where the pelican Easter egg comes into effect.
Also if you are doing this on Co-Op keep your friends and your armour abilities in this type of order
Bubble shield, x2 1 jet pack or something else (Active cammo or armour lock for the heroes) and hologram

  15. EyeOhYou (Andrew) says:

Hands down the easiest LASO to this point. If you follow Tyrant’s guide to the letter, you should have no problem with this whatsoever. I did hit the Sinoviet Center first, as Tyrant advised, but unlike his guide, the hospital was my second objective and the club was my last. Still though, I simply scrolled down to the hospital section and followed his advice for that. Don’t get discouraged if your final two major objectives come to you out of order, it happened to me and I was just fine!

The Club Errera easter egg is huge for this, too. Unless you’re a glutton for punishment, you should definitely use this easter egg to your advantage.

All in all, I died a grand total of one time in this LASO (I got a bit sloppy at the portion with the jet packing elites), and breezed through it in less than an hour. A very easy 16,000 cR this week!

    Goodluck all!

    • Scruff UK says:

I suspect it’s not the easiest LASO to this point. Nightfall took me three and a half minutes and I didn’t fire a single shot! 😉

I might attempt this one. Depends whether I still need my current Campaign save by Sunday night or not, really!

      • EyeOhYou (Andrew) says:

Haha very true. I guess I meant to say that it’s the easiest one that you actually have to do some killing in. 🙂

  16. REvOfEv EcHELoN says:

Im pissed at this challenge right now it kept giving me the hospital after backing out all the way to the mens and reloading it at least 10 times so I decided to give it a go and got stuck at the part with all the Jet Packing Elites with no DMR and I know the rest of the level is a breeze because of the Easter Egg and the shortcuts but that just pissed me off that it kept giving me the hospital. I hate hospitals!! lol gonna give it another run later

    • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

,Man it sounds like me and you are in the same boat. Im seriously stuck at the jet packing elites. They spawned in the spiral room with the stairs instead of out in the open in the room with the jammer. So now i have all these elites running around. I have some DMR and plasma weapons but the problem is i cant hit them for all the glass in the damn room. When i do find a place that i can hit them at they kill me before i can even get one of their shields down. Oh and another thing that sucks is that it seems like every five feet i go, i get a checkpoint. Therefore everytime my health gets low i get a healthpack and when i die i save and exit and im down a healthpack because of the checkpoint. When i started i thought, this will be easy since i have all these healthpacks around but now i have none. Awesome. I really hate to start over from the beginning but if i run out of ammo and keep getting these unwanted checkpoints i guess i have no other choice. 😦

      • REvOfEv EcHELoN (Lex) says:

I think I’ll try the Banshee trick not sure if it works coop though I figure it’s gonna be tough to steal one. Good luck bro I ended up exiting and I think I will be ready to give it another try in about an hour with my arsenal of tricks and Easter eggs :]

      • Chris Atreides says:

Doctor I am at the switch portion and they are NOT appearing. Do I need to start over? Did I do something wrong? Did I take too long to figure out where to locate them? Looking for some love from Doctor H. Thanks amigo.

    • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I just beat the challenge a little bit ago, finally! I had to restart though. The first run i did took me a good part of the day but after i restarted the mission i got through it in about 2 hours or so, i guess its because i knew where everything was from the first time. Good luck REvOfEv EcHELoN.

  17. Wunschkind89 says:

If you start off with Sinoviet Center like Tyrant suggests, another little trick with it: as you’re running to the elevator you SHOULD get a checkpoint. If you get pelted pretty good, just revert to last checkpoint (this is, IF you’re doing this in co-op). Revert to last checkpoint and it resets where all the buggers were when you first activated the jammer, hence, you’re halfway to the elevator already, and no buggers are anywhere in sight. Smooth sailing!

  18. CEMT3X says:

To those stuck on the jet pack elites in the spiral area. Grab a jet pack and full health then jet up were the armor lock is right by the ramp where the elites camp. Run for the exit door, make sure to grab a health pack off the wall if needed before leaving.

  19. JD says:

I sure will be glad when these LASO weeklies are history.

Boy, I will love the day when the Lasos will be gone. I wonder what they will think of next.
I hate the “get XXXX kills in a certain game mode in reach” Weeklys because I never seem to get onto my Xbox during the weekdays. Maybe they will come up with a way to play on other games, say, “play a game onHalo 3” or to complete a campaign mission on Legendary with no skulls on, not even silver ones! This would be nice but I would hate to have to play each Mission Solo Laso. Maybe Solo laso except Iron, but with blind. Post Your thoughts on this, because we could submit this to Bungie or343 Industrys and give them better ideas than SLaso or Million Kills in a game.

Clan 4FK is in Reach Now! Join!

    GT is my name
If you can read this, Join Black Ops or Reach Clan 4FK!

    • how exactly would they track that you’ve played a game on Halo 3 for a challenge in Reach? then it would be a challenge for 3, not Reach. not the same at all.

completing a campaign mission with no skulls on? really? i’m pretty sure most could do that very simply, especially with the glitches and skips out there. and personally, i despise blind and campaign so a solo LASO with blind would be a definite no from me. sorry, no support from this corner.

i happen to like the “kill x in ____ mode” challenges because for me, they are sometimes challenging. earning a running riot in matchmaking takes skill (sometimes. grifball is stupid lucky sometimes) and patience- something i need to work on.

and i have my own “clan” and am happy there. 😀

  22. Chris Atreides says:

I’m with S-Doodle…Let me work on the challenge ALL week like 200 multiplicative or 24 daily challenges. I’ll do the LASO challenges too because I’m a nerd and my OCD won’t let me sleep at night if I don’t complete EVERYTHING. 😉 All in all I’d like to see like 3000 kills with pistol on FF or a full blown “Easter Egg” hunt OR…100 Games played in a week. But what I would love most is if everyone would just down load the new maps so I can kill in zero gravity. Viva Reach!!!

  23. cubedude925 says:

Bungie or whoever must think about the people who may only have a few hours to play per week.
I liked the “score 80000 pts in a campaign mission” a few weeks ago (sorry no link) because it allows players the freedom to choose any mission. also I liked the”endure-the return” because I could do it in an easy 20 minutes. I would like to see the return of 3 and ODST acheivements. Be like marty (but not for firefight- too many AFKs even for my clan) or the other vidmasters( must b 4 player co op on the respective challenges) or a challenge that requires you to get a perfection medal. Also I would like a daily challenge that makes you complete any game without using an armor ability or something like that.

    thats it for now

satisfy your grunty thirst with 4FK clan!

    • i’m going to disagree again. Bungie/343i doesn’t HAVE to think of anyone at all.

the no armor thing – go play team classic, no armor abilities there. why should that be a daily challenge? that’s wicked easy with the playlist. not “challenging” at all.

      • cubedude925 says:

no armour abilitys in a campaign mission or something, not an easy cheat like playing classic.
        not that easy…

Ewhat i meant was that your xbox can savegames and such so why cat reach read that?
Like how you can get an emblem on reach by playing marathon durangal.
        It could work…

Well ayway this was just done quickly on my e reader. I love it and you should get one.

        PS3 can suck it!

  24. Wes says:

I’m now convinced Bungie/343 is screwing with us players. A time/effort consuming challenge, which i bet some people take a few days to complete (you know, an hour here, couple there, etc). So, why throw a campaign challenge into the daily? Imagine some poor kid, whose nerves are wracked over this laso – he goes and starts his daily challenge, poof! his weekly effort is gone.
(Unless there is a secret way/method of saving multiple campaign games??)

I’ll do the daily campaign challenge, and ignore these mind numbing LASOs. But, what a drag for players who budget their LASO efforts over a few days.

  25. Garr Komtaree says:

    @ wes

they arent screwing with us, if they where we would only get 5000 for these challenges, think it over.

    • Scruff UK says:

Wes is saying that it’s unfair for Bungie to give two contradictory Campaign challenges on any given day, like:

DAILY: Get 200 kills in Campaign with the DMR.
WEEKLY: Complete New Alexandria on Legendary with all skulls on.

For most people, it’s almost impossible to do both of them. If you’ve already started the weekly, and have a mid-mission Campaign save on your Xbox that you don’t want to lose, then you can’t do the daily. So you have to make a choice, of hammering out a weekly challenge over the course of a few days and losing out on several daily challenges, or vice versa.

The best way of doing it – if you are going to do the LASO weeklys – is to do them either on the Monday that they come up, or over Thursday and Friday when the daily challenges will all be FF / MM based.

      • Garr Komtaree says:

You realise right that a daily is differnt from a weekly in the fact it lasts all week.

      • the point is that not everyone grinds out the weekly in one go. a lot of people work on it a bit and come back to it later so having a daily campaign challenge effs up the LASO save making them either sacrifice a daily challenge or start the LASO all over again.

      • EyeOhYou (Andrew) says:

Scruff, as usual, makes a very good point.

For many, it is quite difficult to knock out the LASO on the first day in order to clear the way for the rest of the campaign challenges during the week.

I, personally, am fortunate enough to have been playing the Halo series since CE. While each halo game is entirely different, I think that the sheer amount of time I’ve been playing this series really pays off in the campaign, if nothing else. I think this helps me to be able to knock out the LASOs really quickly.

The best advice I can give is to follow Tyrant’s guide to the letter. His walk throughs will make the missions incredibly less difficult. He often includes things that many seasoned Halo players would never think of. Some of his strategies are truly innovative. Also, patience is key. If you go into a LASO expecting to run through it, decimating all enemies in your path, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Instead, understand that these challenges take time no matter how skilled you are. A good way to think of it is that it’s better to take the time and do it correctly once, than to rush through it and fail countless times.

Hope this helps those of you who are frustrated by these challenges. Hang in there! They can be done if you have a little bit of time and patience to spare!

        Goodluck everyone!

      • Wes says:

Scruff UK hit the nail on the head.
We do need a way to save different – in progress- campaigns. Which is the point I was making.
I’ve completed Reach on legendary, so I don’t have a personal/ocd type need to complete every challenge, but i do enjoy the credits (who doesn’t!). I did begin the weekly, but Tuesday’s (and Wednesday’s) daily 86’d my attempt at the weekly.

16K sounds great, but again, play arcade, or others, and you’ll get that in 1 to 1.5 hours (maybe even more if you hit a good ‘slots’ payout. I think my best on that one was 8,000!).

  26. cubedude925 says:

Does anyone know of a better or different guide than Tyrants?
    Just Curious

    • Garr Komtaree says:

      @ cubedude

A better guide? no, good team mates yes. unless you want to do it on your own. but for me im going to be flying my friends around during it, my piloting is expert, but this will be a test come friday, although trigger happy gunners will help 🙂

  27. Pirate Drummer says:

I usually start the weekly LASO challenges after Wednesday’s challenges. That way, I don’t have to worry about getting a campaign daily of FF Thursday or MM Friday.

  28. keith says:

Its not worth the time for the credits maybe for 100,000 can make that amount of points playing seven games multiplayer

    • Garr Komtaree says:

how the hell do you make 100 thousand credits in 7 games? liar. more like 15 grand or less credits for 7 mm games.

      • Scruff UK says:

And this is why grammar is important.

What Keith meant was “This challenge is not worth the time investment for the credits they are offering. Maybe if the credit reward was 100,000 I would bother with it. But the 16,000 they’re offering I can get in seven games of multiplayer”. Which is correct, 7 games in MM will easily get you 16k.

        Thank you, grammar ❤

      • Garr Komtaree says:

Not worth the time when you know the level through and through, its easily enough done. most people dont spend alot of time playing campaign and getting to know the levels like i do, tyrant is another. he worked out alot of things before having the time to do it on LASO before the challenges

      • Chris says:

        Let’s leave grandma’s out of this 🙂

  29. cubedude925 says:

    Anyone for Tennis?

Just wondering if anyone wanted to download my ff hunter vs hunted game type in my fileshare.
    I am in the US
(EST) and will be able to game Friday night through Sun.

    Just checking

We promise to keep our sniper rifles off the streets of New Alexandria. Instead, they’ll end up in the skies…

  30. garrett says:

OK – just did this challenge on COOP with 2 other guys last night. First of all, coop is not always the best option because you are basically splitting all health/ammo with other people. BUT i think that this mission was WAY easier COOP.

first of all, you get the falcon with the mortar canons on either side. if you have a pilot and 2 mortar gunners, taking out banshees and shade turrets is quick and easy (it just pisses me off that the wheelman medal doesnt count towards assists – ARGH)

second, the hospital is by far the hardest part. we kind of beat the system like this: once you clear the room all the way to the jammer, WAIT to hit the button. have 2 people go all the way back out to the falcon. then have the 3rd person hit the jammer button. you will have to fight some people but eventually, the 3rd person should magically warp outside and join the teammates, skipping virtually ALL of the jetpacking elites.

and always follow tyrants guide as closely as possible. restart to get the correct order of missions, the person left inside the hospital WILL NEED THE ACTIVE CAMO.

also, if you kill all the dancing grunts in the club you can load up on a TON of FRG ammo.

    good luck!!

    • garrett says:

OH – and another major perk to coop is that the iron skull does not make you restart – only revert to last checkpoint. what a time saver over save/quit!

    • Garr Komtaree says:

      Grenade launchers buddy.

  31. REvOfEv EcHELoN says:

A great tip for skipping the Hospital part is playing it coop and flying your teammate on top of a banshee and letting him steal it and then do the method mentioned above for skipping hospital. I found stealing a banshee in multiplayer was extremely easier than trying to do it by yourself. Once we had a banshee the whole level was cake if you know the shortcuts for the Sinoviet Center and Vyrant tower than you can do this entire mission without having to fight anyone face to face only from the distance of your Hornet gunner. With the banshee trick to skip the hospital I think this is the easiest challenge yet and I was stuck at the beginning of the week. If you’re having trouble still message me REvOfEv EcHEloN and I can run through it with anyone that still needs to get it done.

  32. cubedude925 says:

    will work for food Nipple.

If anyone is interested in Co op, I will likely be on this weekend.
I am nearly done with this solo

Johnson sez… This is it. Hold me…

  33. app411 says:

Got the challenge in 50min with two of my friends! Taking a bansee through the hostpial make the challenge really easy!

  34. CallUpChuck says:

I know of a better guide to LASO challenges than Tyrant’s. This person does mythic difficulty, and he speed runs it. Check out, Ultimate RC’s youtube videos. He uses the channels ‘mythicLASO’ and ‘MasterRC’.

Well to revise my above statement, these videos aren’t really a “guide”, but they do provide insightful gameplay.

  35. Tim Everitt says:

Need to hijack a banshee? Don’t use the plasma overcharge. Don’t try to jump midair from the falcon. Drop on top of a building, call for Evac. Stand in front of the Falcon, then wait for the next set of Banshees to arrive.

Takes timing, but essentially sprint and jump towards the wing. Viola.

    • Tim Everitt says:

Credit to my son; killamanjarozz, for figuring this out and shaving a lot of time off the process.
