Commentary follows after the break…

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 250 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1875 cR

You’ve got a few choices for doing this really easily and quickly if you don’t get it in the other challenges…

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

A Simple Spree – Earn any spree in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Sprees cover a lot of options, 5 kills with Shotguns, Sniper Rifle, Plasma Grenade sticks, Swords… and so on. Frankly, 10 kills with anything gets you a spree, so just do that and you’ve got a very easy 1000 credits.

There Are Many Like… – Kill 50 enemies with precision weapons in the Campaign today – 1000 cR

Precision weapons are the DMR, Sniper Rifle, Needle Rifle and Focus Rifle (anything that can headshot except the Pistol, which is small arms, although you don’t need to headshot for the challenge). Nightfall is good, because you start with loads and loads of ammo for the Sniper Rifle, and you can shoot the first Elite in the head, restart checkpoint and do it over and over, although for 1000 that’ll get a trifle dull. Winter Contingency from Rally Point Bravo which has DMRs in the base and lots of guys dropped off to shoot at you. ONI Sword Base also starts off with the DMR as well, and a series of Grunts running towards you quickly.

Three Dog Fight – Earn a Triple Kill in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Multi-Team, Grifball and Team SWAT usually yield a good chance for multikills. Rumble Pit, particularly Juggernaut, is also an excellent place to do it in. Probably Grifball works best for you here, since it’s a massive melee with one hit kills for the most part.

Don’t forget we’re having a game night tonight to try out some of the new Action Sack game types, and it’s your chance to see how much I can talk a good game but am really bad at it in actuality (very reminiscent of how I play pool, I can see the shot that’s needed and tell others what to do, but when it comes to making the shot myself, the cue ball ends up in someone’s drink!).

If you have any thoughts or tips please put them in the comments.

And, May the fourth be with you, always.

Nightfall and Grifball today. yay for easy challenges

  2. Scruff UK says:

I was hoping for more MM ones today given the meet-up tonight, but I’m happy enough with these, despite the very low cR payout! As usual, won’t be doing the Campaign one thanks to the current placement of my Campaign save, but a quick game of Score Attack and then an hour or so with you guys in MM should do the other three for me. Triple kills and the like are easy in the new heavy weapon-based game variants 🙂

  3. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

Easy challenges today. I tried out Dino Blasters, Team Splockets, Shotty Snipers, Boom! Ball and Alpha Zombie lastnight. Nice change from the usual. Im hoping to play with you all tonight if i can. If everything goes good see you tonight!

  4. Chris Atreides says:

New action sack =’s garbage. CTF rockets was descent but the Boom ball and the new sword variant are ______ fill in the blank with the worst adjective you can think of. Lol. Here’s an idea shotgun/swords NO extra shields just straight up like Halo 2. You guys rock have a great day!!!

    • Tom says:

I disagree, I love the sword one and the rocket/laser one. Shotgun/snipers and Dino Blasters aren’t gret though.

      • ditto. i haven’t played them yet but i ADORE the concept on a lot of them. shotty snipers won’t be my favorite but that’s because i hate sniping. 😉

      • EyeOhYou (Andrew) says:

Splockets is great. It really pays off if you’re skilled with the Spartan Laser.

Anyway, cake challenges today. I don;t think anyone should have much trouble getting the majority of them knocked out.

        As always, goodluck all!

      • Chris Atreides says:

I stand by my review. Garbage! But I’m still loving the Team Classic and I love the Community maps on Team Slayer. Enjoy the Action Sack Spartans. Onward!

    • Matt says:

My take on the variants I’ve played so far:

To the Death! is boring and takes forever to get a kill. Unless everyone on the team has a mic and can coordinate you can forget about winning quickly. Protip: On Arena Zealot bait an opponent into going into the Yellow Lift, land on the outside platform, lunge him from the platform when he exits the tube, then fall back into the ship to avoid the soft kill. With any luck you will have pushed him out into space, but depending on how much shield he had left you may not get the kill.

Boom! Ball for the win! I totally forgot about manual detonation for the first two games I played and still did pretty well in K/D; I even racked up 51 of the necessary points in one game despite the fact that I suck at Oddball/flag/bomb carrying. Protip: When playing on Asylum, jump and fire a manually detonated grenade through the circular structure and detonate it when the other team comes through their entrance to the bomb’s initial spawn. This greatly increases your chances of a multikill and first strike versus just firing blindly.

Shotty Snipers is exactly as you’d expect: A bunch of dudes named XMLGXProXSniperXNotXReallyX420 vote for it, get owned, and then ragequit. All part of the larger pattern whereby anyone with “Sniper” in their gamertag is actually a terrible shot. On Reflection, camping the top of elevator is still a good bet; so is springing out from around a corner with the shotty and popping some dude in the face. Grenades were responsible for a surprisingly large number of kills on the Reflection game I played because everyone either camps the high points and snipes or camps corners with the shotty.

Dino Blasters is AWESOME. The trick to coming out with a good K/D is to vary the length of your jetpack bursts so it’s hard to track you. On Powerhouse particularly you can duck inside a structure to take cover from higher opponents and then go high when they run out of jetpack. With any luck they won’t take a lesson from you. Stickies are useful because everyone who hate the Concussion Rifle thinks they’re going to finish you off with a melee so if you stick them and jet away it’s ragequit time. On both Powerhouse and Uncaged, you can do decently well using the Concussion Rifle to push people off the map beyond a recoverable point even if you don’t kill them directly and still pick up the kill.

Still waiting on Splockets, Potato Hog, CTF Rockets, and Shotgun Assault.

a good point well put , I’ll never understand why these characters never seem to get sick of their antics and either play the games as intended or f*ck off and find something better to do .

        rant over

  5. FireySplork says:

shotysnipes was sick, so was rocket CTF, the rest are decent, not my favorites like swat or just regular CTF but definetly up there. The worst game type is Living Dead. Compared to living dead, all the new gametypes are sick

    • Scruff UK says:

You know the whole Living Dead playlist has also been updated? I’m not a fan either normally, but now it’s 12-player with new game modes like Alpha Zombies, where the ‘original’ zombies have more powers. Sounds a bit more of an even playing field, rather than just waiting for those rounds where you’re playing as a human and then trying to find the most obscure bit of scenery to hide on top of. Saying that I haven’t actually tried the new Living Dead yet!

Also I love Shotty Snipers, even though I’m distinctly average with the sniper. The fact that you can only sprint, and that there’s no medium-range combat at all, makes for a very interesting battle 🙂

      • biodrumr says:

Thing that annoyed me is that it spawns 9 humans and only 3 zombies off the start. The only real advantage the “Alpha” zombies have is an infinite sprint.

So if you’re stuck with 2 other guys that are terrible zombies, the game takes forever. Trying to charge into a group of 9 shotguns is not alot of fun.

I enjoyed it overall, but still like original Infection much better.

  6. Subject 6x says:

A while back someone had posted of a way to glitch the ctf and oddball achievements can anyone help me out with this? They are literally all i have left to do, and I just cant figure it out. Gt Is subject 6x

    • ZaganZee says:

With the stockpile, put a flag in their zone, then take it back out. Just do it twice, that’s how I got mine. CTF, Try to get a game on Hemmohrage, purposefully let them get the flag, then kill them before they leave your base. It’s very hard for the other team to stop you from returning the flag, especially if you’re armed with a shotgun or power weapon. For oddball, try to play on Pinnacle or Uncaged/Cage and go to the tower and go halfway up the ramp. They’ll run out the door and you can just smack them in the face again and again. It’ll take them a while to learn their lesson. Sorry I don’t know anything about glitching them though. You could always set up a party made of only your friends…

    • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

You can download a gametype variant of both of those and play it split screen or with a friend in a custom game and get them. Dont tell anyone but thats how i did it. 😉

    • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I downloaded some of them for you. If you want me to play it with you let me know and i will help you get the achievements. I think i downloaded the right map but the only way to see if its the right one is to play it and see. Just send me a message and we will try it.

      • ZaganZee says:

You can really get those in a custom game? I wish I knew that, that would’ve saved me some time.

      • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

Yeah but it cant be the regular CTF, Oddball or Stockpile gametypes that everyone has access to in custom games. I had to download them from someones file share. After i got my achievements i deleted the gametypes i had. I went back a little bit ago and downloaded some so hopefully they will work for him. They are in my fileshare. Like i said though i dont know if they are the right ones. lol.

      • biodrumr says:

Are there special maps you have to download for this? Cause me and a friend just tried the oddball achievement on someone’s custom map that I downloaded, and it’s definitely not working.

      • Scruff UK says:

It has to be the official game types, but not the ones that come packaged in-game. Basically if you play a game of Oddball, go to your temporary files and save that game type. The author of it should be “Bungie”. That is the game type you have to use.

Alternatively, download from the links on here: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=300051

You’ll be done in a matter of seconds.

However the Noble Map Pack achievements can’t be gypped by using Custom Games. Just the Defiant ones, because 343i make wonderful maps with terrible achievements.

  7. Austin says:

If you’ve done the other challenges and want to quickly top off your 250 kills for today’s “any game mode” challenge, try FF Grunt Grind — based on Matthew’s excellent “Firefight Invincible” variant. It’s 100% grunts at 10% health — you have a needler with a bottomless clip that one-hit-kills the grunts as fast as they can spawn (especially since the needles track them). On Corvette, you can get 250 kills in 5-6 minutes.

  8. Tom says:

Today is the first time the triple kill challenge has eluded me. Every other time I’ve jumped into Griffball or HaloBallXtreme and got it leterally first game. Taday it’s just not happening for me, I keep getting simultaneous kill/death for the second kill.

    • michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

I know what you mean Tom. Its always been easy for me and my son to get a triple kill, but just not today. I finally gave up on it since its midnight here. Oh well, its not the first challenge that ive missed and certainly wont be the last. lol. Good luck!

      • Tom says:

Thanks. Luck must have worked becasue I’ve got it now. Fired up reach again after a long day of uni, went into Griffball and got it first game like normal.

  9. Edgar M. says:

I wish a weekly challenge could be like get 50 fist strike or 100 assesinations
