Commentary follows below…

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1350 cR

Is it just me or are we getting these types of challenges a lot now?? You’ve got a few choices for doing this really easily and quickly…

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

That Pink Mist – Kill 100 enemies with a Supercombine from the Needler or Needle Rifle in Firefight Matchmaking – 1250 cR

So there are lots of options in the new Score Attack modes. FRG Attack gives you a Needler with unlimited ammo, but that only really works on the Brutes and Elites (and the Skirmishers if you can catch them in the open). In general I still recommend any game where you can pick up a Needle Rifle from a Jackal and put 3 rounds into an unshielded enemy to get the Supercombine. 2x Score Attack or Fiesta Attack would be good because you can get loads of Elites at the end.

The Little Guys – Kill 75 Grunts in the Campaign on Normal or harder – 1000 cR

Winter Contingency, Exodus or The Package are excellent for Grunts – read through this post for more information on them. The opening of ONI Sword Base has one useful trick – go straight to the Target Designator, turn around and blast some Grunts, then reset to checkpoint. It’s a quick way of doing it, although I prefer playing through levels to up various commendations. Ryan suggested something similar on The Package, throwing a grenade just before the checkpoint so that every time you reset it goes off and takes out a few Grunts. ONI: Sword Base can also be good by just taking out the few who are in front of you at the start then restarting the mission.

Double Nickels – Earn 2 Killing Sprees in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1500 cR

This is two in one game. Try and get a weapon you like and aim to take out 5 guys with it. This is pure kills, not what you use, so sticking with Plasma Grenades counts, Elite Slayer could be a good option. Of course the alternative is to play something like Boardwalk and snipe people from far away. Don’t get so engrossed in your scope you miss what’s happening around you though! Close Quarters often works well – so Grifball will be really good for getting this too. BTB works very well from the vehicles, especially the Falcon or Scorpion.

Don’t forget to check out our Game Night page for details for this Wednesday, and have a read on the new weekly challenge.

  1. Juggernaut says:

The pink mist can be done in plasmafight since you start with a NR

    • Juggernaut says:

      And infinite ammo btw

      • Scruff UK says:

Awesome. That’s only in Arcade though, right? That gives you 300+ enemies per game as well. Might be worth organising groups to go and get this; I’ve never once had a Plasmafight game actually be selected by anyone!

      • Shobaleader One says:

In 1 game of FRG attack on Score Attack i managed 37 supercombines with the needler, so 3 games of that and you should be done – its a nice way of bumping up your automatic weapon commendation too

  2. Scruff UK says:

That Pink Mist: that’s going to take at least two games I think, considering how easily the early enemies die. Also, as unnatural as it feels, avoid headshots as they might kill the enemy before your supercombine explosion happens/registers.

The Little Guys: Nightfall gives you 5 sleeping Grunts (2 up top, 3 down below) immediately after a checkpoint, by the Elite at the start of the mission. Three melees and a grenade, then revert to save.

As for “2 killing sprees”, what counts here? Could you get your killing spree and a zombie killing spree at the same time to get 2? Or a killing spree and a shotgun spree? If you can do this then Infection or certain Action Sack games (shotgun assault, shotty snipers, splockets) would all work nicely.

    • Shobaleader One says:

After a quick game of infection i can conclude that zombie killing sprees and shotgun sprees DO NOT count towards the challenge, only regular killing sprees will suffice

      • Scruff UK says:

Excellent, thanks for clearing that up! At least, as you point out in your other post, one game of Infection will still do it, as long as you get two rounds defending! Invasion would work as well. It’s better than Infection in that you don’t need to rely on being human for two rounds, worse in that each game takes a long time to play!

      • Matthew Vose says:

Yeah, the capitalisation of Killing Spree I think indicates it’s the actual Killing Spree medal/reward (ie not just a killing spree of any kind).

  3. Shobaleader One says:

Infection is another easy gametype to get ‘Double Nickels’ – 2 consecutive rounds of defending and i’m 1500Cr richer

    • SangheiliSean says:

yeah just get a killing spree and you get a zombie one too,

      • Scruff UK says:

You didn’t read the existing comments, huh? The zombie killing spree doesn’t count as a second killing spree. You have to get two separate killing sprees. Not a killing spree and a zombie killing spree. Two killing sprees. Or possibly a frenzy 😉

      • Shane says:

I’m pretty sure a frenzy doesn’t count. Last time we had this challenge I got a Dreamcrusher medal in Grifball (4 sprees) and only the killing spree counted.

  4. Tom says:

Damn it. I got a frenzy in my couple of games this morning, which I’m assuming would have sufficed (?) for the two sprees. Why couldn’t that have been now…

I really hate these MM spree challenges. I’m probably not quite as good as a lot of you here and sort of need to be in form to get two Killing Sprees or a frenzy or more. Basically, its a little bit more luck than skill.

    • Scruff UK says:

It also depends on what mode you play. Even just a Killing Spree is seriously tough in games like Rumble Pit, whereas in Infection, if you’re human, it’s EASY to get a spree. All you need to do is hide on top of something like everyone else and headshot five zombies, who helpfully run right at you unable to do anything from a distance 🙂

      • Tom says:

Yeah, true. Though I did get a Running Riot in rumble pit a couple of days ago. I’ll give infection a go first, and if that doesn’t work then I’ll try spawn camping HaloBall Xtreme or Griffball…

  5. Sir Galahad 63 says:

Hey guys I know it’s been ages since I should have said this but re-downloading the Noble map pack worked, and I am now able to play it!
If you don’t remember I was having trouble, and many people such as Scruff UK and snickerdoodle helped 🙂 thanks guys

  6. Simmons9552 says:

An easy way to get lots of kills, especially grunt kills is to go on winter contingency and start on rally point bravo. A drop ship drops lots of grunts so if you are good enough you can get these challegnes really easily

    • this is what i usually do. i’m not patient enough for the target designator…

      • Simmons9552 says:

In fact I think my way is way faster than the target locator way because you don’t have to run and dodge to get the target locator you automatically start fighting grunts my way

    • Niisama Broham says:

I agree; Winter Contingency rally point bravo and just go through the level to the end. Then restart. Thinking you’ll get about 30-40 grunts on one run.

Level is easy – enemies are weak. Should take about 5-10 minutes and you can get kills towards commendations of your choice in the campaign (grenade, rifles, precision, pistol.)

More fun than the target designator honestly

      • KingoftheRats says:

also another good option for the grunt is going to rally point bravo on The Package and as soon as it starts run to the right. A dropship drops off somewhere between 8 to 10 grunts. You can get a checkpoint right there so it should only take 2 mins to complete this is what I usually do for the grunt challenges

  7. SlimEel94 says:

Stupid, layman question time. I’m thinking of just hammering my commendations but didn’t know if it would count as both small arms and pinpoint for killing with pistol headshots? I know it’s probably a yes but I didn’t want to go all out and accomplish next to nothing. Also, anyone fancy teaming up later on to do That Pink Mist? Keep going arcade as mentioned above and noone seems to care for the little people! Thanks in advance.

    • SlimEel94 says:

Plus, anyone heard of anyone who has actually got Onyx commendation on Demon?

      • Shane says:

Yup, me. If you mean “anyone who has actually got Onyx commendation on Demon without using the end of level glitch* u sux hxxor ch34ter” , then no.

If you’re looking to hammer out campaign commendations, check out Butterzzzzzz’s guide:
        http://www.bungie.net/forums/posts.aspx?postID=50684727&postRepeater1-p=21
Rally Point Bravo on The Package is great for getting the headshots and precision weapon commendations. Read his advice about picking up a plasma pistol from Rally Point Alpha and then working through to the grunts at Rally Point Bravo to get the pistols, automatic, and grenade kills commendations. I got my assist commendations here with a second controller, both firing grenades. It was much easier than that Nightfall video you’ll find on youtube.

        *Googlit.

      • Scruff UK says:

And yes, pistol headshots do count as headshots. They’re what I’m working on right now. However to max headshots you need 20,000; to max pistol kills you need 16,000, so you’re still going to need to top up with precision weapons. A lot of people have Onyx Max on *all* Campaign commendations… In a few weeks I shall join them, mwahaha 🙂

  8. kenny says:

Is it really a 5 hour difference between you guys and new york?

    • ….i feel like this is a trick question….

    • Matthew Vose says:

5 hours to EST, and a vast 8 hours to PST. Trust me when I say if I could reduce those hours I would.

      • kenny says:

Lmao sorry for the cunfusion and thanks for the info i was trying to figure out if i would be able to do the game night this week and my phone is retarded and kicked me into the wrong page
How long does the game night last btw?

      • Matthew Vose says:

No worries, I assumed you were just checking. It lasts… well as long as people are playing for. As time goes by and EST gets to the end of the working day we see more US based people signing in, so it’s all down to how many of them turn up. The PLs are usually on for 3-4 hours, but that varies too, and they’ll hand over to someone else once they go.

Last two weeks it basically comes down to how long Snickerdoodle stays on for, and frankly she has enough stamina to outlast us all!

  9. kenny says:

Okay good to know i just have to get her to add me now 🙂 so i know i can find everyone else

  10. OMGBBQWTFLOL says:

Picked up the 2 killing sprees in an action sack Boom! Ball. I’ll admit I went for kills and not the objective, but it was an easy challenge. The grunts and any game mode were nice and easy with my commendation boosting check point. Pink Mist I got 30 in a game of FRG in score attack. Would have gotten probably 35 if I didn’t accidentally shoot the FRG a few times, definitely 3 games of FRG attack will net the challenge unless you want to try for some arcade or limited.

    • Shane says:

I prefer arcade because: it usually takes the same amount of time; you can usually get at least one or two perfect rounds; the extra skulls in rounds 2 and 3 make it more likely to get a supercombine; and the bonus round (if it’s grunts) with the extra skulls nets you a load more kills. I got over 60 supercombines in my first arcade game today.

I think arcade may give you more credits as well?

  11. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

For the That Pink Mist challenge i did Score Attack FRG Attack since it starts you with a Needler and unlimited ammo. I used the Needler the WHOLE time and only got like 28 Supercombines. After that i did 2X Score Attack and picked up a Needler and Needle Rifle and managed to get the rest of the kills i needed so if you only do Score Attack for the Firefight challenges like i do, even though FRG Attack sounds like the best route to take, its not. If you do 2X Score Attack just make sure you pick up all the Needler and Needle Rifle ammo laying around. Good luck! 🙂

  12. Matt says:

Oddly enough I got Double Nickels in a game of Haloball XTreme and went 30 and 5 overall. My hammer timing is pretty decent from lots of Grifball so often I’d get out of a duel with most health remaining. I need to work on two things though:

    1) Not getting splattered by the ball; one guy on the other team trick-shotted me with it about 5 times.
    2) Getting assassinations. I don’t know whether I’m too jumpy or moving too fast or what but I always do the beatdown instead.

I just realized today that you can sprint up the lower rung of the scoring area on the Haloball XTreme Court and pretty much camp that lowest goal to eliminate all the easy goals for the other team. I still plan to go mostly for kills though.

  13. MJOLNIR Tester says:

That Pink Mist: got 34 supercombines during FRG Fight on Corvette. Tried different maps and Score Attack variants, and FRG Fight on Corvette was the best. If you are patient you can get a supercombine on every Brute. You’ll get a few more from Elites, Skirmishers, and even an Engineer.

  14. Tom says:

So, I just got completely ripped off…

Infection: I got one killing spree, it registered fine, says Killing Spree and pops up 1/2 for the challenge.

Next round, another killing spree… nothing pops up, no medal, no challenge. I also actually saw it pop up literally “so-and-so is not on a killing spree” for one if my teammates.

After the game, the carnage report clearly states Killing Spree x2… but no challenge.

Why the hell did the game decide we weren’t allowed sprees anymore?!
