Commentary follows after the break…

Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 1100 cR

So you could do this in one game of Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or some of the other variants. Why am I going for Gruntpoc as the best option? Because it’s got easy enemies to take out and a really quick game type to play through.

Pass The Rock – Earn 20 assists today in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 1500 cR

You can get lots of assists in Multi-Team, mostly because a number of firefights always open up, especially in Crazy King or Oddball. I’ve used Team Slayer for assists in the past which isn’t bad, and Rumble Pit is also worth trying.

T-Hug It Out – Kill 6 enemies in Close Quarters Combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1200 cR

Close Quarters is a kill using melee, assassination, Shotgun, Energy Sword and Hammer. Infection can be useful, as that’s all CQC. If only there was a game type where you only used hammers and swords though? I say Grifball, as that’s all CQC as well, and easy to get lots and lots of kills. For other mode options, maps like Sword Base, Countdown and Reflection give you the Sword, Powerhouse sometimes the Hammer and Asylum the Shotgun. I tend to melee a lot anyway so this should come in one game.

Participation Counts – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1200 cR

Complete 4 games. Don’t drop out. Get to the end of each. Just play through them. Doesn’t matter if you win or lose. Sorry, I can’t drag out this explanation any further. Is there a way of doing this quickly? Infection is a very fast game type so you’ll probably get it done in 10 minutes using that, or Grifball if you want to just go after the bomb score.

So lots of Grifball and some Score Attack? Easy.

This week’s super jackpot is in Arena, up to a very tasty 18k of credits. There are also some nice updates to come to matchmaking. Check out the weekly update for full details.

Don’t forget to vote in the poll if you are a US based reader – we do want to make sure you’re included and get to have some game nights too…

    I’m thinking 4 grifs and a grunt.

  2. Sergeant Jinto says:

I don’t think I’ll be trying for the Assist one, but the other three are simple enough to pull off in less than an hour. Play time!

    • Ian (FearTheTurtle06) says:

My new favorite for assists is shotty assault in action sack. All shotguns, neutral bomb, on a small map like asylum. Got 12 in one game last night and thought hmm this would be good for an assist challenge and boom today here’s that challenge.

  3. mickoboy90 says:

see how the super jackpot,is it in singles arena???or doubles??cos its always me and my brother playing on same xbox…we have two different xbox live accounts..and we really want that 18k lol

    • click the link and go read the weekly update.

    • Matthew Vose says:

If you read the post I’ve given you a link to all it says is ‘Oh, and this weekend’s Jackpot playlist is Arena, and the potential payout is set to a whopping 18,000 Credits. Get ‘em while the gettin’s good.’

That’s all the info we have. Check out b.net perhaps to see who’s talking about it??

      • mickoboy90 says:

play the arena and its actually 4v4 playlist…managed to get the 18k super jackpot and 3 6k jackpots so im happy…some extra crefits towards inclement weather..does anyone know when the jackpot timer resets??

      • Scruff UK says:

@mickoboy and his brother – the Super Jackpot is available once on Friday, once on Saturday, and once on Sunday, allegedly finishing midnight Pacific time on Sunday. The Double Jackpots are available all week long but are also available in Squad Slayer and something else I don’t remember 🙂

  4. Mister Shhhhhhh says:

Getting a less than average number of assists, it seems. Damn you, Bungie!

  5. HC Sangheili says:

The Arena still qualifies for Double Slots as well; 6K. Double Slot isn’t limited to once a day, neither is the normal jackpot of 3K.

I hit the Weekend Jackpot and one Double Jackpot last night in The Arena, on separate occasions.

T-Hug It Out: Griffball and I love each other
Assists: Depending on the time of day, I could get twice as many kills as assists
    Completion: No AFK, only play
FF Homicide: Doubles Attack, because it’s awesome

    • HC Sangheili says:

I can serve as PL for US players tonight at 8PM EDT. GT – HC Sangheili

It won’t be Rated G or even PG 😉

  6. Shobaleader One says:

Be careful with gruntocalypse – in almost every game i’ve played there always seems to be 1 or 2 grunts who manage to either explode or drop a grenade and take a friend with them, theres nothing worse than completing a game to find you need 1 or 2 kills to complete the challenge.

Or maybe i’m just rubbish, who knows!

    • CrestOfFire says:

That’s exactly my point. Grunts love to TK.

    • Matthew Vose says:

      Gruntpoc.
      Waterfront.
      Shoot the snipers.
      Boom.
      122 kills.

      • coalinn says:

        I hate those snipers though!

      • John says:

Yep and I hate Waterfront, it’s a horrible map.

        John

      • Matthew Vose says:

But it gives you some backup in case there is a Plasma Grenade accident (which is not that big of a problem imho), so take the rough with the smooth sometimes.

      • Phil (GT feeblestud) says:

Or you can do it on Corvette and shoot the Engineers for a few extra kills. Their presence seems pretty random, though. I’ve played some games when not even a single one appears, but in other games I’ve gotten as many as three if I kill them right away.

      • John says:

Nah, aside from Gruntpoc not being the best FF game type anyway there’s no FF variation that makes Waterfront worthwhile.

Have you played 2x Score Attack? I don’t remember your Gamertag on the leaderboard (although it may be in between snickerdoodle and Scruff who are last and first respectively) and can’t see it on your game history.

        John

      • Matthew Vose says:

Hahaha, no I’ve ignored a whole game type in the game that I blog about. XD

Yes I’ve tried it, I still say GP’s the way to go. As I’m sure has been said before in this exciting topic this whole site is about opinions, just because I prefer something to you doesn’t mean you’re wrong, don’t take it that way.

      • John says:

Just curious because it looks like set decent scores in most of the Score Attack gametypes, I wish they’d set markers so you could see which level/style you’ve managed to survive all the way through so you could work on completing them all.

        John

      • Scruff UK says:

        ……I’m first! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! 😉

      • ZaganZee says:

*cough* that’s because he doesn’t have me as a friend. My current high score is 40000 something. Just got it a few minutes ago actually.

  7. John says:

I still prefer 2x Score Attack, I find it easier as you can take a fuel rod shot or grenade sticky without dying (the grunts can get some utterly insane sticky shots) and it’s good for working on commendations as the increased weapon power makes AR and kills from a vehicle far easier. Also there is a chance of up to two vehicle kills on a variety of maps.

    • Sergeant Jinto says:

2x Score Attack is by far my favorite gametype for Firefight. It’s so much fun running around willy nilly and laying waste to Covies so easily.

      • John says:

I did used to enjoy Gruntpoc as a chill-out mode for Firefight but now I also find 2xScore Attack to be my favourite mode. Gruntpoc just seems dull to me as it’s just five waves of Grunts whereas 2xScore Attack gives you far more variety in both enemies and the weapons you can use. Stickying the Elites in the final wave is particularly entertaining although I’d love if it they flooded the other waves a bit more as well as you have the firepower to mow them down.

        John

    • Bah Bodenkurk says:

I got it done in ten minutes in a FF Arcade game, FRG on Outpost. It was too easy, no science to it.

  8. CrestOfFire says:

Actually, can I not recommend Gruntpocalypse? There’s 120 enemies, but don’t the little buggers sometimes go suicide and betray their team? EG:

120 Grunt Ultras sitting on the wall.

1 sticks his friend with a failed ‘nade.

119 Grunt Ultras sitting on the wall.

2 go kamikaze and bomb themselves.

117 Grunt Ultras sitting on the wall.

    117 die from good shots.

There, you got 117 kills, even with a banshee stuck in the mix.

But if you do Score Attack x2, even when three or four stick themselves, you’ve still got 120 kills.

*loads shotgun and does one round of Infection* Hell, I can do that challenge assassinating the zombies.

  9. meh. personal preference i guess. i like to do gruntpoc and if i missed a couple, i’ll do a crashsite to get the last few kills. 🙂

    • John says:

      That’s only because you haven’t given 2x Score Attack a chance 😦

      John

      • Matthew Vose says:

John, did you invent 2XSA or something?? 🙂

      • really? you know this? you stalk my b.net info to see what i play? or are you just assuming i don’t give 2xSA a chance because i prefer gruntpocalypse???

either way….i HAVE given it a chance and i DO like 2x but i PREFER to play gruntpoc because i just don’t enjoy FF in general.

not that i owed anyone an explanation but there you go.

      • John says:

Woah, chillout! It’s a lot simpler than that, when you play Score Attack it shows your friend’s scores on the left one at a time which ascends each time you pass their score. As your score is up first it’s there for most of the game making it quite prominent and it doesn’t look enough to have finished the game. Hence I assume you’ve not really played it.

        John

      • John says:

Matthew – Amusingly enough on the BWU I thought 2x Score Attack looked pretty stupid and was looking forward to skirmigeddon and Fiesta attack instead. Oh how wrong was I there….good to see Skirmigeddon is finally being fixed but sadly Fiesta Attack I think still lingers on its current broken implementation.

        John

      • Matthew Vose says:

You’re not winning any friends here John – you see the ‘don’t enjoy FF in general’? That probably means that it’s not been played a massive amount, so of course someone will stick at what they’re good at just to get the challenges done.

And honestly, who doesn’t enjoy making the grunts go “HOORAY!” and blow up in confetti!

      • John says:

Ugh, I think I’m being grossly misunderstood here…not having played the game much was my whole point from the start so I’m not sure why you think I’m using that as an insult.

After my original post, I got snickerdoodle’s back up unintentionally because she believed I was stalking her on B.net…so I replied trying to explain that wasn’t the case because I was just going by her score which shows in every 2x Score Attack game. That’s not an insult, it was more based on the fact I know she’s a decent player and would likely have had a better score if the game was finished properly.

If only looking to do FF from a challenge point of view, Gruntpoc doesn’t really make much sense though. Last Thursday it was possible to do all four challenges with 2x Score Attack and just two with Gruntpoc. There’s also much wider scope for commendations as well which of course bring in the credits albeit at a slower rate.

Granted I do wish you could have the birthday explosion on all enemies though, makes it much easier to spot a headshot….

        John

      • okay, i see what you’re saying. why the hell couldn’t you just say that in the first place? harrumph.

but like i said, i really don’t care for FF in general so i like to get them over quickly with as few surprises as possible. which, FOR ME, means a lot of grunts. and i’m okay with that.

  10. porottaja says:

Is “Pass The Rock” reference to Johnson’s line of having only sticks and a rock for the whole platoon and they had to share the rock?

    • SnuK evoX says:

I thought it was a basketball reference

    • EyeOhYou (Andrew) says:

As someone who’smplayed basketball since age 5, I can also assure you that it is a basketball reference. The rock is a common nickname for the ball, thus pass the rock means pass the ball. Good passing = assists in basketball.

    • ZaganZee says:

that’s what I figured it was too. Best line ever.

for assists ff arcade snipers works well if you can partner with someone. I like glacier for the map. jet pack
with your buddy to the top of the rail in the middle of the base. take body shots, 1 drops shield then partner
can take the kill. if you can play split screen with friend obviously easier.
