Today’s challenges are listed below, click Read More to view the commentaries:

  1. One Spartan Army – Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR
  2. Killagruntjaro! – Earn 35 multikills in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 1750 cR
  3. L.D. Solace – Complete Long Night of Solace, without dying, on Legendary with Mythic, Thunderstorm, Tilt and Tough Luck on – 5000 cR
  4. Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1750 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

One Spartan Army – Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

You get 120 Grunts in Gruntpocalypse, about 100 enemies in Score Attack and something like 330 in a Firefight Matchmaking game (although split between up to 4 people). So jump into some sort of Score Attack variant to get this really quickly, especially an easy one like 2X Score Attack or Gruntpoc to get the next challenge too…

Killagruntjaro! – Earn 35 multikills in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 1750 cR

In Gruntpocalypse or 2x Score Attack this is so easy. The Grunts come out of the doors/dropships/appear in groups of 5 or so, and you can easily shoot 3 or 4 of them straight away. Multikills do stack so an Overkill counts as 3 – double, triple and 4 kills. Therefore just play the game and take them out when you see them together. 35 is not that hard, especially when it’s Grunts.

L.D. Solace – Complete Long Night of Solace, without dying, on Legendary with Mythic, Thunderstorm, Tilt and Tough Luck on – 5000 cR

The best advice I can give is to re-read Tyrant’s guide to doing it Mythic, as this is very similar to that, and all the advice when we saw this as a LASO challenge.

Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1750 cR

Team Slayer and SWAT will be excellent for this, as there are only two teams so a much better chance of winning than in multi team. If you are doing Multi Team, try objective based types and go for the objective itself, most teams don’t. I mean Crazy King, Oddball, Rocket Race. Grifball can be good if you’re ready to grab the bomb and score you can win really quickly.

  1. Braythor says:

Ah 35 multikills, that’s more like it, glad to see it’s been increased to something which is achievable but not so simple as to feel worthless (eg 1 spree). And another LD challenge to ignore…

So one firefight and then more multiplayer tonight I guess, and hopefully I won’t have a repeat of a game from last night, which was probably my worst ever. I’ll even share the failure with you so you can all laugh at how useless I was:

    I hate Pinnacle…

    • oh dear. that’s pretty painful. 😦

even with the “fixed” spawn issues i still think Pinnacle is the worst SWAT match ever. you still get spawn camped no matter what.

    • Scruff UK says:

      Ouch 😉

Am I the only person in the world who actually likes Pinnacle as a map? I think it’s pretty sweet! Boardwalk, on the other hand…

      • i like Pinnacle NOT on SWAT. or at least not regular SWAT. at least Magnums gives everyone a decent chance since they’re so inaccurate.

SWAT Magnums on Boardwalk is the dumbest game ever invented. hell, why not go whole hog and do SWAT Magnums on Hemorrhage while we’re at it?? ugh. ridiculous.

      • FireySplork says:

I enjoy pinnacle aswell. However Boardwalk is the worst, I Hate it so much. The only gametype its good for is infection. Best map for most gametypes is sword base.

      • Braythor says:

Usually I don’t mind it on slayer, but in that one we had one guy quit and the other team camped in the tower with the sniper rifle and a DMR, we just couldn’t get anywhere near. They were also ridiculously accurate with cross-map grenade throws.

Boardwalk’s ok, but it is a bit on the big side. Lots of fun in splockets though.

As for swordbase, I am so very bored of it. Countdown or caged/uncaged is where I tend to do best, especially on elite slayer. I wish they’d put a separate elite playlist up.

      • In my opinion, Pinacle’s a decent map. Same for Boardwalk! I REALLY hate Reflection though! >.<

      • see, i like reflection. but i think that stems from me reallyreally liking Ivory Tower on H2 so….

statistically i seem to do the worst on Pinnacle and Asylum. and i really dislike Powerhouse too.

      • Scruff UK says:

I like those maps too! Really the only ones I don’t like are Boardwalk (except in Infection or Splockets) and one of the DLC ones that might be called Tempest? The green hilly one with nowhere near enough weapons in it 😉

Not a big fan of most of the Forged maps though. All that grey just gets boring. Wayont is pretty much the only really good one that’s come out of Forge World into the main playlists.

      • John says:

No I like Pinnacle as well possibly because I played it a lot on Halo 2 and still enjoy playing it. I’m not keen on Boardwalk though and definitely not Powerhouse either.

        John

      • SensoryFour34 says:

What’s really annoying is Countdown! It’s basically just a race to see which team can get the sword and shotgun first. Whichever team gets those just camps the whole time and almost always wins!

  2. Scruff UK says:

With LASO’s done it seems that we’re getting a much higher amount of these LD challenges. I won’t go anywhere near ’em unless they’re on Winter Contingency or Nightfall, but they’re excellent for those people who only want to do solo FF / Campaign stuff 🙂

I’d actually be tempted to hop into FF Arcade and try for a Rocketfight for the two FF challenges. There seems to be more enemies in FF Arcade now, and you can always be cheap and sit on top of the Phantom during the final bonus round to rack up the multikills in no time at all.

Winning 5 games might be a bit of a stretch though. Don’t think I’ll have enough time tonight to even play 5 games, let alone win them all.

  3. Peggy Peggy says:

    Not too bad today!
I don’t know if anyone’s been over at B.net but they’re running a BTB All Stars competition which you can a Star from, anyway to gain entry just complete five games of Invasion in the next week!
    http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=61571846

Looking forward to tomorrow night!!!! 🙂

  4. Edward (Marshy 40) says:

Yesterday, I got a nice 5-win streak as part of my endeavor for the weekly. Sod’s law says that this not going to happen today. So statistically 10 games, but I was planning on doing more if possible. On a side note, SWAT is actually good for the weekly as most games are less than 5 minutes and you get decent credits, more than for “speedballing” the grifball.

  5. michael (DR HIGGLESTEIN) says:

We are all supposed to get the Blue Flame Armor Effect also on the 23rd from what i hear. That would be cool. 😉

    • HC Sangheili says:

IPhone app, new as of earlier this morning (for EDT) has the Blie Flame Armor Effect, the Star and Bungie for the nameplate, and the ability to gift out the Blue Flame to 7 people.

      • Scruff UK says:

Surely these are all temporary? If *everyone* has the blue flames and a Bungie nameplate then the cool factor is going to drop enormously unless it’s just for a day or something 😉

Also Bungie themselves will be playing a 24-hour session online at some point, so I might actually get to play against a team of Bungie employees. Not that I’ll be able to tell, since everyone will have blue flames anyway! 😉

  6. WarZombie says:

I hope they aren’t temporary. Free Blue Flames is infinitely cheaper cR-wise than all the other armor effects 🙂

    • Thazmo says:

I hope we get to keep them, I quite like the bungie tag blue flames combo, lots of people think that we really r bungie XD I know we keep the all star once we get it in btb all star playlist, maybe only app users get flames? 🙂

  7. Mister X says:

Easy, easy, hard, easy. 5 games of grifball znd 1 Sa.

  8. fbolha says:

here’s the info about the flame and star below, can someone who has the iphone app send me the star?

This is the year that we say goodbye to Halo, but though the thought of our absence from this universe may bring a salty tear to your twinkling eye there is much to celebrate. So much in fact that we’re tearing ourselves away from the blazing fires of our development forge to put the last two decades of Bungie’s existence into proper perspective. It is, after all, the 20th anniversary of our studio and nearly the 10th anniversary of the game series that thrust us straight into the public’s yearning maw.

Beginning on June 23rd, and running through the close of Bungie Day on July 7th, we’ll be celebrating the last twenty years the only way we know how – by giving you, the best -blam!- community on the planet, all the parting gifts we can muster.

Here are 7 reasons you should come out and celebrate with us this year:

Because Blue Flames aren’t just for Bungie Employees or fans with iPhones. We’ll be turning on Blue Flames and the Bungie Nameplate for every last one of our loyal fans. (Kids, do try this at home.)
Because we just built a brand-new and totally free community iPhone app to keep you connected…and entertained!
Because we’re going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what Bungie Aerospace is all about.
Because a collection featuring some of our rarest and most treasured personal Halo artwork will be up for auction, with all profits going to charity through a partnership between Child’s Play and the Bungie Foundation.
Because the Bungie Store is going to be packed with Swag Sacks containing random, but totally kick ass swag, limited run commemorative t-shirts, and amazing commissioned posters from a handful of incredible artists, with all profits also going straight to charity.
Because on Bungie Day we’ll be throwing down in a 24-hour Bungie vs. the World No Holds Barred Halo: Reach Marathon where we’ll be making the promise of Steaktacular a certified beefy reality. You steak us. We’ll steak you. Seriously, we’re going to mail any team who beats us by 20 kills or more on Bungie Day a Grade-A cut of steak (gift cards for international players) while supplies last.
Because you’ve been just as much a part of this incredible twenty years as we have, and we simply couldn’t bear it if you didn’t show up and help us celebrate our anniversary and help send our Halo baby out with one hell of a bang.

The festivities begin on June 23rd and conclude as the final hours of this year’s Bungie Day, July 7th, come to a close. If you don’t show up, we just won’t know what to do with ourselves, and we definitely won’t know what to do with this ViDoc we’ve been slaving over for the last two decades.

    See you soon. BYOB. ONYC.

    Love,

    Bungie.

    • ptb says:

This is very frustrating. I cannot use the Bungie app on my iPhone because it won’t run iOS4.
The world is progressing around me.

      • Scruff UK says:

I don’t even have an iPhone. Or an HTC. I have a phone with buttons that can make phone calls and send text messages and take very low resolution photos. It’s awesome! 😉

      • Braythor says:

What a coincidence Scruff, my phone does exactly the same things! It also has this great little habit of turning itself off at completely random moments. And to top it off it’s quite sturdy, having been dropped many times – once in a fishtank! All that and I only put a tenner on it a month, sometimes not even that. 🙂

      • ptb says:

Ok, maybe not the whole world 😉

  9. Shawn (Gamertag: txmade1986) says:

Where is the blue flame effect coming from? Seen quite a few today…

  10. RudeOnion says:

I HIGHLY suggest using Rocketfight to get those 35 killstreaks. I struggled with a few rounds of Gruntpocalypse before finally playing Rocketfight on Holdout. I got the required 35 halfway through the game. Just aim for the clusters of enemies and let loose. Having a jetpack is also helpful.

    • t-rOY says:

Beach Head, Glacier, Courtyard, and Corvette are also good maps for this strategy. Most of the enemies spawn in the same spot for consecutive waves, which makes for an easy overkill and a much easier Killtac+ than other game types. Gruntpoc is ok too, but sometimes they march in to your view one by one or space out so far you can’t line up the head shot fast enough for a triple or over.

    • John says:

The heavy weapon modes are probably the easiest to get the challenge, I’d recommend 2x Score Attack over Gruntpoc for multikills though as the additional strength of the weaponry makes it much easier to score kills – grunts will die (bar the white ones) in just one shot which doesn’t need to be in the head as will jackals and skirmishers (again bar red shielded Jackals). The slow, large brutes are a breeze to multikill with the sticky grenades (as well as getting that commendation up ) as they normally attack in groups of fours and the final Elites are easy to multikill either with the DMR as the one shot stun gives you time to line up successive headshots or again grenades, the stun gives you an easy sticky shot.

It’s good see a bit more than 10 multikills which was a joke but I’d like to see a higher target, even something like 50 I’d say is easily doable in FF Arcade and possibly in Score Attack.

      John

  11. ptb says:

The L.D. challenges have me intrigued. Solace has shown up twice in the past week (6/8 and 6/14) and Pillar appeared twice in May (5/15 and 5/24). With how organized and structured the LASO challenges were, it feels strange having these out of order and recurring so quickly. Has this been happening all along?

    • John says:

I think you may be looking for a pattern where none exists, given the obvious error with the multikill challenges at the weekend I don’t think there’s much thought given to the daily challenges.

      John

  12. We need to get a squad together on Bungie day and win us some Steak!!!!

    • Matthew Vose says:

Hmmmmm, taking on Bungie might not be the best idea. But… there may already be a plan about this in motion 😉

      • t-rOY says:

If it’s going to be like last year were you can only be matched up with 4 Bungie employees at any given hour then I’ll gladly pass. Every team my friends and I faced were ridiculously good (in Halo 3) and we never got matched up with Bungie. Getting our asses handed to us all night was one thing, but to never find a match against Bungie made it feel like a big waste of time.

  13. Nic says:

You can get a flaming helmet with blue flames

  14. Alright, I’ve seriously concluded that it’s an unwritten law on days where there’s a challenge to actually win games, I will get stuck with an incredible crop of players on my team who have no idea how to play this game in any facet. I could see once, twice, or even three times when a challenge like this has come up that I get stuck with awful teams, but it’s literally every single time. I honestly think I’m going to start doing rumble pit whenever a “Win X Games” challenge comes up.

Anyway, I knocked out the firefight challenges first in one simple game of 2X Score attack before being stuck on 4 out of 5 wins for a good 45 minutes.

My advice – play with your friends. I usually win when I play with a group of 3 or more of my buddies. Too bad none of them were on!

    Good luck all!
    GT: EyeOhYou

    • John says:

Strangely I feel the same…there’s times when I’ve had large winning streaks and generally winning five games wouldn’t be an issue but any time a challenge to win games comes up I can’t seem to win any!

      John

    • Tom says:

Agreed! Only played 3 games today but all of them I was stuck carrying a team of people who may as well have been spinning in circles. Lost all three. In both the game of hockey and HBX I played I had team members hitting the ball(s) the WRONG WAY.

I agree that this seems happen every time this challenge comes up.

  15. Shawn (Gamertag: txmade1986) says:

Knocked out the daily challenges early to work on the weekly… On 50 more games to go! Grifball hasn’t been so bad, I’ve been lucky today with multiple jackpots of 3000
