Commentary follows after the break…

Light Fare – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 1000 cR

If you want to do this specifically (as you’ll probably getting it just playing for the other challenges) then jump into something on Score Attack, maybe Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or Fiesta Attack to get it done quickly and rack up the kills.

T-Hug It Out – Kill 4 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1000 cR

Close Quarters is a kill using melee, assassination, Shotgun, Energy Sword, Hammer and Golf Club. Infection can be useful, as that’s all CQC. If only there was a game type where you only used hammers and swords though? I say Grifball, as that’s all CQC as well, and easy to get lots and lots of kills. For other mode options, Action Sack’s Halo Ball Extreme is great, and Infection is almost all CQC bar the Pistol. Maps like Sword Base, Countdown and Reflection give you the Sword, Powerhouse sometimes the Hammer and Asylum the Shotgun. I tend to melee a lot anyway so this should come in one game.

Flat Tire – Kill 5 enemy vehicles in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Holdout is a good option for this because you’re guaranteed a Banshee each game, and if you take it out quick (Sniper Rifle in the crow’s nest on top of the base) then you can get several. Another trick is to keep the last Grunt or two in a wave alive to extend the game as much as possible. Beachhead and Outpost do have some vehicles dropped, 2X Score Attack has been reported to do well here, although sometimes there are none sometimes there are 4 or 5.

Deathless Spear – Complete Tip of the Spear on Legendary without dying – 1800 cR

As ever with these challenges check out firstly Tyrant’s guide to completing it Mythic, which will get you through the challenge very easily. Also have a read of the post I did for that challenge here, and finally remember that if you die, very quickly hit Save and Quit. Then Resume Checkpoint, and you’ll be back to your last Checkpoint and the game will remember you hadn’t died. Crack through a very entertaining mission and you’re done.

Check out the Game Night hub page to view details on the plans for this week (to be updated soon but use that as your central page to check). Also put 7/7 in your diaries instead of 6/7 (that’s 6th July). We’ll be having Game Night on the Thursday that week instead of Wednesday, primarily because I’m at a gig on the Wednesday, but there’s also the small matter of Bungie Day, when we want to take the chance to battle Bungie employees (see point 6 on the link).

I really hope they don’t give us Flat Tyre every day this week. I suppose 5 isn’t too bad really, and a lot easier in the new arcade format.

And a campaign challenge. Looks like they’ve maybe (hopefully) given up on the LD ones. Still, is it worth it for 1800cR? I don’t think so, as it’s not a short mission and besides, tonight is the final Game of Thrones episode, so that’s where my attention will be.

  2. HalfEvilHomer says:

Nice there challenges are pretty easy for today! and coupled with a nice weekly, i think im going to enjoy this week!

  3. Woody says:

I’m excited about the weekly and today’s challenges. Though, I don’t think 1800cR is worth stressing for the campaign challenge. I can easily get 1800cR just spending that time playing some other game type.

  4. JD says:

What is with Flat Tire? half or more of my vehicle kills in Firefight Matchmaking aren’t counting!! is there somewhere to report this to Bungie?

    • Woody says:

It’s possible that you maybe killing the driver before destroying the actually vehicle itself. If that is the case then it will not count as a flat tire kill.

    • John says:

Getting the vehicle kill to count is tricky, you have to use specific weapons otherwise you kill the driver first. In 2x Score Attack you have to be particularly careful as the additional weapon damage makes it more difficult, if you’re taking down a wraith/ghost I’d recommend sticky grenades which will get the vehicle kill – it should only take a single sticky and a plasma pistol’s EMP can be handy on the ghost to get it to stay still.

      John

  5. JD says:

hmm interesting maybe because I was using the Focus rifle on a banshee…. although there was another with a grenade plant on a Wraith that didnt happen

    • HalfEvilHomer says:

I find the best way to kill the banshee is with the plasma launcher, as the banshee evades the rockets too easily and the plasma launcher stick to it and takes it out no problem and counts towards flat tyre everytime. For everything else i try to aim at the main body of the vehicle to get the kill and 9/10 times it counts!

    • Woody says:

I wouldn’t recommend the focus rifle to a flat tire challenge. From personal experience the sniper rifle has been my best friend when it comes to taking out a banshee. Plasma Launcher works as well.

  6. MadAmericanTaco says:

I’m just glad we are finnaly getting some variety in the weeklies, I am going to chip away at it starting tonight and should have it finished off by tomorrow at the latest. I was thinking that since people drop out or if you get a lazy group it will probably take aroud 12 games of FF to complete the challenge and at a minimum of 2,500 cr per thats about 30k cr + the 12k for the weekly so all in all not bad for a few hours work!

BTW for all the people out there that don’t have an iPhone and want to get thier hands on the Star Nameplate reply to this post with you gamertag and I will send you one. Keep in mind I only have 3 left so its first post first served.

    • ehhh in 3 days everyone will be able to get it themselves, iPhone or no. 🙂

      • MadAmericanTaco says:

Really? I hadnt heard it was going to be that soon??? When did Bungie post that info?

      • Matthew Vose says:

On the post on Bungie.net I’ve linked to above – point 1 is about them turning on blue flames and the Bungie nameplate for everyone. The star is either for the star winners and app owners atm, but also from the 23rd (I think) for people who play 5 games of Invasion and get access to the BTB All Stars playlist. Which I’m going to assume everyone’s done.

      • sorry, it’s been a long (and exciting!) day and i’m super duper short on sleep and caffeine. 😕

      • Justin says:

The star is already open to people who have played Invasion 5 times since they had that pop-up when you started the game. I played 6 games yesterday and have it available to me.

    • hoellenhamster says:

I want one now anyways 😉 gt is “hoellenhamster”
      Thanks.

      • MadAmericanTaco says:

@hoellenhamster I will send it to you around 4pm est today!

    • CrestOfFire says:

My gamertag is CrestOfFire, can I have one please? I ❤ blue stuff.

  7. MadAmericanTaco says:

Speaking of the 23rd, are there any plans on teaming up against Team Bungie to try and get the steaks they are offering? If not we should really try to get that setup…

    • Matthew Vose says:

Dude, seriously, read the post then come back to us okay? 🙂

      • MadAmericanTaco says:

Sorry, I have very limited access from where I am at so I don’t get everything on my screen, plus I can’t get to BUNGIE.NET at all 😦

      • Scruff UK says:

From the bottom of today’s post on the page you’re on right now:

“Check out the Game Night hub page to view details on the plans for this week (to be updated soon but use that as your central page to check). Also put 7/7 in your diaries instead of 6/7 (that’s 6th July). We’ll be having Game Night on the Thursday that week instead of Wednesday, primarily because I’m at a gig on the Wednesday, but there’s also the small matter of Bungie Day, when we want to take the chance to battle Bungie employees (see point 6 on the link).”

  8. chrisllama says:

Umm has anyone else had the problem with the Tip challenge? Cause the save and quit thing didnt work for me… like it worked for laso because you couldnt die just because of iron, but the instance you die the challenge fails :/ making you restart.. does this happen to anyone else?

    • Scruff UK says:

You have to save and quit BEFORE the mission restarts. Like, as soon as you die, hit Start. Though to be fair, 1800 cR is so not worth the hassle of this challenge!

      • HalfEvilHomer says:

you can play the level all way through even if you die and then when you know your getting near the end go save and quit then reload checkpoint and carry on from there. So for exampleyou die at the beginning, play all the way to where you get to the top of the spire, save a quit then reload and do that last bit without dying =)

    • sloman64 says:

      I turned Iron on

  9. John says:

I’m not sure what you mean about 4 or 5 vehicles on 2X Score Attack on Beachhead/Outpost, as they’re normal maps the only vehicles you get are with the dropships which means a maximum of just two unfortunately.

A few games of FF Arcade for the weekly should easily net 5 vehicles as there’s drop ships on the first and last wave of each of the three rounds.

    John

    • Matthew Vose says:

I’m not saying 2x on those maps specifically, just that those maps do have them dropped. 2x sometimes also has them dropped, but it varies how many you get.

      • John says:

It’s a little confusing the way it reads (to me at least), I take it the four or five means FF Arcade? As 2x Score Attack will be lower and Limited will be higher.

        John

  10. CrestOfFire says:

Let’s see… Three games of Sniperfight @ Holdout, One infection match, Spear w/ iron on for bonus points (I love that level anyway!), and by then Light Fare should come naturally.

I wish Sky would hurry up fixing my XBL though.

  11. sloman64 says:

flat tire didn’t work on score

  12. Chase says:

Is the super jackpot for team objective still in effect or did it end yesterday?
