  4. More Like In Post – Kill 1000 enemies on Outpost in Firefight Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Commentary and details on tonight’s Game Night follow after the break…

One Spartan Army – Kill 400 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR

ou get 120 Grunts in Gruntpocalypse, 100 enemies in Score Attack, up to about 130 in 2x Score Attack, and something like 330 in a Firefight Matchmaking game (although split between up to 4 people). Just pick anything that comes up on Outpost first for your last challenge and keep killing them. You get vehicles too, so perhaps a 2x Score Attack so you can get your pistol kills then hit up Firefight Arcade to get lots of enemies.

Flat Tire – Kill 10 enemy vehicles in Firefight Matchmaking – 1125 cR

Holdout is a good option for this because you’re guaranteed a Banshee each game, and if you take it out quick (Sniper Rifle in the crow’s nest) then you can get several. Another trick is to keep the last Grunt or two in a wave alive to extend the game as much as possible. Obviously everyone will be trying Outpost for the last challenge, which does have Ghosts dropped during the games so take them out for this, then if you need more head over to Holdout. Note you need to take out the vehicle NOT the pilot, so explosive weapons help, and it seems they don’t count when played in Fiesta Attack.

Be Their Huckleberry – Kill 50 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with the pistol – 1000 cR

Try and get a Gruntpocalypse game in so you can stick to just the pistol, take out the little methane breathers as quick as possible with the Pistol then switch to DMR for easier kills. Some maps are definitely better than others, Corvette and Courtyard are small and easy to see across to take them out.

More Like In Post – Kill 1000 enemies on Outpost in Firefight Matchmaking – 3000 cR

A new challenge? Surely not?? Well we’ve had ‘Going Outpost-al’ before, which was 100 for 1600 in February, then 125 for 1100 in April. 1000 is a pretty big kill volume though. It’ll take 8-10 games of Score Attack variants (Gruntpocalypse or 2x Score Attack for highest volumes), and any number from 3 to 10 in Firefight Arcade (depending on number of players and time to take enemies out). Best advice – start on FFA and see how quickly you can get through them, assuming you’ll take 10 minutes in Score Attack and weigh up what’s best, especially factoring in number of vehicles dropped and destroyed. If you get to say 950+ then just use Crashsite or Generator Defense to pick up your last few rather than playing through a whole game.

It’s Game Night tonight, our own Snickerdoodle will be leading a party through a whole variety of custom games in Reach. Check out the hub page here for more information on how to join in the fun.

  1. JD says:

And again I’m not getting kill credit for Banshees on Outpost with the Focus Rifle…. maddening…

    • Matthew Vose says:

As above try something explosive – plasma launcher, spartan laser, rocket launcher etc.

And I found Fiesta Attack didn’t register any vehicle kills, I don’t know if there are other modes that do that too (yeah, that’s maddening).

    • Woody says:

My favorite weapon to use on Banshees is the sniper rifle. From my experience, rockets haven’t worked well for me, because the Banshees always evade right before the rocket hits.

      • chrisllama says:

If youre doing it on holdout try the turret, and a follow up to Woody, if you use the sniper you have to shoot the wings or it will kill the driver first D: and not count

  2. MadAmericanTacos says:

Man today has a pretty good payout, 1000 kinda seems like it should be part of a weekly or something because of the sheer volume… Doesent matter anyway I will probably only get to 1 & 3 cause its my wifes’ b-day today and I gotta spend time with her. Dangerously close to General Grade 3, this probably would have put me over the top 😦

Oh t-Roy thanks fort he help on the saves I went through and got 3 setup and saved so far, one for flawless cowboy/demon, grenade kills and headshots! Talk about a time saver!!!!!

    • t-rOY (tROYnHI) says:

you’re welcome. scroll down for my tip on The Package Rally Point B. This is my new favorite checkpoint in campaign to rank up commendations or get challenges which call for campaign kills with specific weapons.

  3. Scruff 815 says:

1000 kills challenges = that map never comes up as an option. And since I get more than 3,000 cR for *one* game of FFA, let alone ten, that challenge can get stuffed. As can Flat Tire, for obvious reasons. The other two though; well good.

Hurray for Game Night Thursdays! Adding some fun to the lameness that is Firefight Thursday! 😉

  4. CrestOfFire says:

    Firefight Thursday, finally.

Looks like they picked up the ‘Flat Tyre to annoy people on thursdays’ trend, eh?

    Outpost + 1000 kills + Flat Tyre = Ooooh… grind.

  5. HC Sangheili says:

I recommend Doubles Attack for targeted kill volumes on specific maps.

Certain maps might not come up in Score Attack. If they do, it might be a less than desirable one such as Mythic Attack.

Only 3 votes for 4 people in Firefight Arcade. Low odds that a specific map comes up.

Doubles Attack will present each map with the standard playlist sets.

    • HC Sangheili says:

      I almost forgot.

      Flat Tire?! Yes!! :p

      • gans42 says:

if youre looking for a doubles attack partner just let me know HC, though id personally recommend score attack because you have more voting options and you can quit out without penalty

      • HC Sangheili says:

Might take you up on that gans. Depends on the oldest kid and where he’s at when work ends for the day.

I still say stick with Doubles. In 20 minutes, 2 of us can get more kills than 2 single Score Attack matches.

  6. sapEEE says:

anyone u know how u can save ur own game modes to forge and custom games ? 😮

    • gans42 says:

      after you play a game hit start->file browser->temporary history->game types->hit X on the desired game type->save

    • chrisllama says:

Or when you make a gametype in the custom game settings just press x and it should come up with save 😀

      • sapEEE says:

wow 😮 wtf i have never seen that ‘save game type’ in custom game settings xdd

      • chrisllama says:

yeah bungie didnt really show that XDD

  7. Sir Galahad 63 says:

Thanks to the person yesterday that notified about Bungie’s effort to update characters (finally)! I might do the pistol challenge today, that’s probably it, then just hit infection again. Infection is great for your k/d. 🙂

Woody, may you tell me your GT? I’m interested to view your statistics 🙂

    • Woody says:

My gamertag is WNWoodmore. Nothing special about my stats. I’m a little disappointed and embarrassed about my stats. You be the judge. lol

      • gans42 says:

theres nothing wrong with your stats. your spread may be a bit low, but i see its because you dont focus on MM that much, you seem to mostly care about FF, which can result in a lower MM spread

      • disturbeddaddy says:

there are much more important things than stats – like having fun and sportsmanship. If we’re honest, Woody, most of us who play Reach are a bit ashamed of our stats because there is always someone (in my case, lots!) better.

      • Sir Galahad 63 says:

Your FF stats are insane Woody! Congrats 🙂

      • Sir Galahad 63 says:

You may be ashamed of your stats, but thats only in MM. You should be very proud of your FF stats. Some one else may be completely the opposite and have crappy FF stats but awesome MM stats and they may be ashamed of their FF ones.

Not everyone has to like and be great at the same game mode 🙂
And I’m getting lots better at MM than when I started, it’s just practice and refining your weak points which for me is pretty much the fact that I panic in rushed situations, and get paranoid if I’m top of the leaderboard (not very often).

      • Woody says:

Thank you all for the comments!

After today, I’m going to focus more on MM. I’ve always had a liking for FF ever since ODST. Then with the kids being around, I just went overboard with FF, since it was a good way to avoid rude comments from others online.

You’re right, disturbed… it should be about having fun and good sportsmanship. I guess that’s another reason why my MM numbers are much lower. I see and hear too much unsportman like stuff, that is uncalled for. I’m the type that will actually congratulate the opposition even in defeat. Sure I would like to win, but I don’t get bent out of shape if I lose. Actually, I sometimes laugh at my own deaths.

Sir Galahad, I tend to panic as well under rush situations or have a lead slowly slipping away. That actually need to work on that, because that is one of my problems that causes me to have poor performance in MM.

      • Project SHAVE says:

I hear ya about the trash talkers Woody. I normally just mute everyone because of the idiots. Last night I was playing Infection on Caged (or uncaged, don’t know the difference between the two), and there were 2 legends camping in that high bridge area talking mad trash. Luckily I killed one of them and teabagged him like there was no tomorrow.

      • chrisllama says:

actually halos not that bad compared to other games o.o anyone ever see someone boost search and destroy for 3 hours? those guys get way to into it D:

    • Infection is great for your k/d

yeah….not so much for me. infection is actually AWFUL for my k/d spread.

  8. gans42 says:

i agree with sir galahad, when i first got the game i was pretty awful at MM, but after playing lots of games in lots of different game modes i found out my strengths and weaknesses and stuck to certain playlists (for the most part i play swat, infection, and snipers, occasionally rumble pit, and almost never team slayer or BTB…dont play those 2 too much because i get easily frustrated and those have the most cheap gameplay in my opinion)

    • Scruff 815 says:

BTB in a well-organised team of 8 people communicating with each other is excellent.
BTB solo, with 15 random people, is bloody awful.

      • gans42 says:

thats true, i have a reclaimer friend that occasionally brings me in to a party for BTB when theyre one short of a full team. im a legend, and i feel at a low rank compared to these guys lol

      • 'Cos says:

I personally love BTB. Since i mainly play solo (not too many ‘friends’ playing at the hours i play!), it is what i am used to. Rogue? Yeah, that’s me. And yes, sometimes it is absolute hell to play when you have teammates quit, or even worse…the other team is 8 strong, and completely organized. Sice i never quit, i have finished many a game by myself…getting raped repeatedly. And YES, these games help out your k/d ratio a lot. *extreme sarcasm*

        @ Woody,
Nice stats, indeed. Now let’s work on those sniper numbers. You will be a jedi, soon. Use the force…

        @ Matthew Vose & snickerdoodle,
I don’t believe i have ever personally thanked you for the site. Came here to find answers. Found them and much, much more. Now i come back for the conversation (…and i still also find something new every day i didn’t know before). Thank you so very, very much for your creation, and for sharing with us all. Still wanna play with you both one day…

        @ everyone,
thanks again for being so cordial. You make the site what it is. It is a pleasant ‘break’ to come read the nice things said daily. I’ve made some good (Halo) friends, and am hoping to find more soon. Can’t go wrong with the players found here…

Have a good day all. See ya online? Good luck…

        – seventh dawg

    • Project SHAVE says:

I’m with ya there gans. Swat, Infection are my go to playlists (and I’m surprisingly good at Rumble Pit). I’ve never been great at Halo multiplayer, but when you find a playlist you’re good at, it makes it all worthwhile. But I still play way more FF than anything else.

    • callupchuck says:

I love BTB solo… haha. I love the chaos and the spontaneity of the playlist. I also never get a chance to organize upwards of 8 people at one time with mics, so it’s a one-sided point of view.

@gans: Team slayer/BTB as cheap gameplay? Don’t want to call you out there, but those are the bread and butter of Halo multiplayer there. I couldn’t care less for MLG, but would they then be the cheapest of the cheapest?

      • gans42 says:

i didnt mean that the playlist is cheap, i meant that it harbors cheap players (not saying everyone is cheap, just saying it has more in my opinion). i find people camp with power weapons (like sword and shotgun in yellow lift in sword base), or vehicle spawn camping in BTB. i get frustrated at cheap things like that. thats why i like stuff like grifball swat and infection. same loadouts for everyone and no power weapon whoring. i know its all personal opinion, and thats my opinion

  9. Project SHAVE says:

I’d say the superjackpot weekend playlists are the reason for my low k/d. The Arena killed me. As did Team Classics.

    • gans42 says:

yeah i generally stay away from the playlists i know i wont do well in, even if that means turning down bonus jackpots

  10. YoSoY says:

    Hey!

Almost 1 million hits to this website since last October: nice job Matthew and Snickerdoodle and everybody else who helps!

So, today you guys are gonna have lots of fun. Kill’em all!! I want holidays so I can join you, but there’ll be none till September.

Regarding today’s challenges, I just don’t like Flat Tire, in fact, I don’t like the commendation linked to that kind of challenges, don’t remember the name – Grounded, I think. Other than that, I found them easy.

    Cheers!

    GT: Gran Calabaza

  11. Noobwarrior says:

1000 enemies? Really? And I dont have the patience of flat tire…I’ll probably play score attack to get 400 and 50 pistol kills and grind infection afterwards(I need ~20 more sprees for commendation) …..brigadier grade 3 sucks…..

  12. chrisllama says:

Hey just a question, but have maps from certain playlists been failing for people? like certain maps always do D: cause i cant play grifball cause all the maps fail and a bunch in other gametypes do too, but it might just be me cause it usually boots me

  13. callupchuck says:

My new favorite weapon for FF is the plasma pistol. It’s been tweaked in every game since Halo CE, but Reach made the plasma pistol Reach new ground. Not only are the shots more powerful, you basically never have to reload (if you pace your shots) – and there’s unlimited ammo (~300 shots for one out of the 50 lying around). It is extremely accurate and can even work long range.

Call now and receive free shipping and handling

    • chrisllama says:

dude the plasma pistol in halo 3 did insane beat downs o.o i once knocked my friend halfway across sandtrap 60 feet in the air, and the other time he crossed the whole middle part

    • gans42 says:

yeah in the arcade variants (2x, fiesta, etc.) there’s a 1.5x damage multiplier

    • Woody says:

I’ve actually gone through a few campaign missions, using only the plasma pistol. As you mentioned, if has a decent power, lots of ammo per gun and hardly overheats if paced right. I found a new respect for the weapon.

  14. gans42 says:

i got the dailys (except flat tire) in 9 games of score attack, 4 2x score attack, 2 rocket and 2 frg, and 1 fiesta (all on outpost). this also got me 7/10 for flat tire, so ill prob do 1 arcade fight to finish off flat tire

  15. sapEEE says:

btw any of you play lots of custom games where are lots of people ? 😮

  16. Marc says:

Damn! 1000 enemies for the Outpost FF challenge. I don’t know if I’ll do that challenge, but just the other three instead. I’m not find of Outpost FF map anyway so I could care less.

  17. Capnrex501 says:

I just got the outpost challenge, and the hard part isn’t the gameplay. It’s the annoying fact that you have to restart the game if outpost doesn’t show up. I honestly spent 45 minutes just searching for the right map. But in the entire run I got 20000cR.

    • MJOLNIR Tester says:

You don’t have to restart the game. If your desired map doesn’t come up, hit the silver Xbox button to bring up the Xbox menu, Blue X button to sign out, then sign back in, then exit the menu and resume matchmaking.

  18. Niisama Broham says:

For Flat Tire challenges, I’ll normally play Score Attack – Beachhead. Grab the target locator and save it until the 5th wave. Usually you’ll get a Ghost or Wraith or both. Just target them and you always register the vehicle kill.

Doubles – Beachhead is better as long as you’re not playing with a random. I normally have a friend on the console or join with someone on the friends list so we help each other.

  19. 'Cos says:

Statement : I’m gonna attack the ‘1000 enemies on Outpost’ challenge. I’m gonna use automatic weapons.

Question : Let’s take a poll? Favorite automatic weapon? Woody? Anyone? Your thoughts, please. On a side-note. Do y’all know if, when using a needler, the kill counts towards the automatic weapon numbers when you kill more than one with the supercombine explosion, or only the targeted enemy? This answer alone may make the needler my favorite, even though i am getting pretty good with the assault rifle. Please share with me/us…

    Thanks in advance.

    • Woody says:

The needler does count as an automatic weapon kill. It also happens to be my favorite automatic weapon, when unlimit ammo is in use. If limited ammo is being used, then assault rifle is my favorite.

    • Woody says:

I’m going to make an attempt as well to get the 1,000 kills as well. I’m not sure if I will get it though, because once my girlfriend gets home it is game over. Anyway, today’s challenges is the reason I had mentioned working on improving my MM skills starting tomorrow.

  20. Noobwarrior523 says:

Yay! I finally got perfectionist iron! Now every commendation is atleast iron! Today is a good day for my service record….any spree in MM went gold(I’m not that good I just play infection) I got perfectionist and I only need 29 pistol kills for sidearm in MM to go silver….might as well finally go for the automatic weapon commendation in campaign…only need 100 more kills…any one know a good level to do that?

    • 'Cos says:

winter contingency is best i think. Many grunts, and you start with assault rifle. Just my opinion.

And congrats on your commendation leveling.

      • Noobwarrior523 says:

        TY for your opinion

      • Matthew Vose says:

Thanks for the nice words man, it’s hearing things like that which keeps me doing this. I started it precisely because there was no dialogue happening about the challenges, and although it’s taken a while we’ve gotten there. I started this for fun, as long as it remains so it’ll keep going.

      • Noobwarrior523 says:

WC worked great! Rally point bravo works wonders! You could easily get 30 kills just outside (before you search the body) I think that might be one of the best areas to level that up

    • t-rOY (tROYnHI) says:

I recommend The Package Rally Point B. Grab some extra ammo at Halsey’s lab. then head out to the main path, turn right, and make your way to the auto-turret/drop ship landging area. Camp out of grenade distance from entrance to bridge where grunts are dropped off. Wait for checkpoint, then start killing the grunts. Revert to last save, repeat killing of the grunts, and keep going until you get bored or up the commendation.

  21. eltorro52 says:

If anyone wants to play some firefight doubles I’ll be on for a while. Gt: eltorro52

  22. Brook Harris says:

    Thank You 🙂

  23. Beermit says:

‘Nother Firefight Thursday! That outpost one had me itching to come home from work all day. This is gonna put me that much closer to Field Marshall :->

Quick question tho, anyone know whether the needle counts as a small arms or an automatic weapon? Just curious if its affecting either related commendation when I play FRG attack

  24. Project SHAVE says:

So I hopped into a game of 2x Score Attack on Outpost to get started on the dailies, and when I hit around 80 kills (and after I got Be Their Huckleberry) I was inexplicably signed out of XBox live. When I signed in again and finished the mission, I checked my challenges and low and behold, it only recorded 40 kills and it didn’t record that I completed the pistol challenge, but I still got the credits for it! I don’t want bungie to think I’m cheating, because I’m not!

Has this ever happened to any of you???!!!

    • Noobwarrior523 says:

That is known as “unplugging your eternet cable” or also known as challenge resetting it’s a way of cheating the system….bungie shouldnt do anything because you got disconnected and got an extra 1000 credit though(people who do this excessively get the ban hammer)

      • Project SHAVE says:

I’m wireless though, so I can get signed out at random. This is no bueno!

    • Woody says:

You should be fine. Bungie knows that accidental sign outs can happen. When the issue becomes a constant repeat, then it may send a red flag to them.

      • Project SHAVE says:

Thanks Woody! I don’t want to be on Bungie’s bad side!
