5th August – Challenges & Commentary

Today’s challenges are:

More than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR
Showtime – Earn 5 assists in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1250 cR
Streaky Shooter – Earn 10 sprees in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2500 cR
Iron with Friends – Complete a Campaign mission co-op on Heroic or harder with the Iron skull on – 1750 cR

Commentary follows after the break

More than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Multi Team Battle or Grifball are the best ways to get lots and lots of kills, you tend to get more than any other modes. If you play Crazy King or Oddball you can get even more as some people who would shoot you go for the objective, and you can take them out. Seasoned Grifball players will also be able to get this in only a game or two, and if you can make an area in an Infection game defensible as a human you can rack up kills quickly. But looking at the other challenges you can pick this up naturally with them.

Showtime – Earn 5 assists in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1250 cR

Rumble Pit is good for assists since it’s just bullets and fists flying everywhere! As usual with assists you can do well in a Team game type if you pair up with someone, tell them that’s what you want to do and join forces, using Sniper Rifles, Plasma Pistol overcharges and the like to do max damage to someone, and your partner finishing them off. Hockey is also very good, just run around gunning people and tell your team when their shields pop they’re a one hit kill with the golf club. Don’t forget an assist is classed as doing 40% or more damage to someone with another playing killing them within 4 seconds.

Streaky Shooter – Earn 10 sprees in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2500 cR

This should apply to any spree, not just kills. So you can get sprees using:

  • Hammer
  • Shotgun
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Plasma Grenade sticks
  • Sword
  • Vehicles (two here – kills in vehicle where you do the killing, and kills as driver with passenger killing)
  • Spartan Laser
  • Assists
  • Some for specific variants of Juggernaut, Invasion and Infection

See the list on Halopedia for everything, especially as you can get 3 spree medals for each type. My recommendation – go for a weapon that allows you an easy spree, personally a Shotgun or Sword work for me. If you can take out 5 dudes you should get two sprees – one for 5 kills and one for the weapon (ie Grifball). Infection can be excellent for the number of medals you get per Zombie kill so if you can defend one position on your own or in a team you’ll get this easily.

Iron with Friends – Complete a Campaign mission co-op on Heroic or harder with the Iron skull on – 1750 cR

Go with Winter Contingency or Nightfall, and taking it slowly (except of course the parts that you just run through). I’ve heard that on Nightfall in co-op the enemies are more likely to spawn behind the door (watch this video off Youtube if you’re not sure about speed running Nightfall), however I’ve also heard that the best thing is you go in co-op but then let only one person do the run. Yes there are some more enemies but it should still be easy.

I was able to join game night for one game of BTB. Good match and Damn I was this close || to scoring the flag.

It was my last game of the night and 6,001st game overall. Here’s to the next 6,000.

  2. Justin says:

Do wheelmans count towards the assists? On the carnage report they are listed under assists before getting into specific detail.

  3. MadAmericanTacos says:

All right! Something a little different to end the week, hopefully I can crank these out in an hour and then complete a few games of FF and I can get to General Grade 4 tonight!

Oh for the assists I have found that the Nade works pretty good cause it does just enough damage to get the assist without killing your enemy.

Has anyone else noticed that people in Fire Fight are turning into jerks? Like today I was in a bonus round and just because I was ahead in points two of the other players jet pack up behind me and nock me off the ledge into the grunts to kill me! This has happened so much latley that I have started avoiding people. OK enough venting for now, gotta get back to work!

    • Woody says:

Wow… I haven’t had that kind of experience with jerks like that in firefight. I’ve had the other three on the team go run and hide to the opposite side of the map, during bonus round, hoping the grunts would take me out early so they can collect the points without me. Little did they know, I play firefight so much that I knew how to get out of tough situations. So their plan backfired. Lol

    • Noobwarrior523 says:

Yea,since I was getting my precision weapons up in arcade fight(I was gonna try for flat tire while working on commendation because they were close) but someone decided to fuel rod me so I couldn’t aim and when I was on outpost I used the stationary minigun, the guy decides to blow it off the legs so I don’t get infinite ammo ( I have precision weapon kills, headshots, and vechicle close to upgrading so I’ve been working on them). Anyway, had a great time in game night, trying to spawn kill in grifball, get steaked in splasers and me and gans showed some hatred towered the only kid in hockey that decided to use the AR.

      • gans42 says:

oh that asian kid in hockey running around like a fool with the AR (not a racist…that was his GT lol)

    • killer attack says:

Yeah their alot of jerk out there who like to play like that. Thats why I play score attack by myself.

    • t-rOY (tROYnHI) says:

One of the jerkiest things I’ve seen FF randoms do is blow up the warthog in Unearthed or Beachhead. Some do it right at the beginning of the wave, while others wait until you’re approaching a cluster of Covies One of my other pet-peeves with randoms is when they’ll use a rocket launcher or fuel-rod gun when there’s a pistol/headshot/precision weapon challenge. My wife absolutely goes livid when randoms hog all the vehicle kills when there’s a Flat Tire challenge. I on the other hand, just pass on that one whenever it comes up. I find it too irritating when it doesn’t count or somebody gets it because they delivered the final blow a split-second before your grenade, rocket or sniper could kill the vehicle.

  4. Woody says:

I think I’m going to avoid the campaign challenge. I just hate the thought of being the guy that’s responsible for cause the team to revert back constantly.

I hate that I missed game night. For those who had sent invites/messages, I apologize for not responding. There were times in which I had fell asleep while the game or system was running and there times I would step out the room. Each message or invite must have came during that period, making me unaware of them until it was too late.

    • gans42 says:

just do WC or nightfall for campaign

      • Woody says:

I seem to always find a new way to get killed on WC, especially when I come across the first group of Ultra Elites. On Nightfall, if there are enemies beyond the gate, then I’m definitely promised to die a couple of times. The problem I have is simply playing with someone who is not patient, because they are maybe better at campaign than me and not used to dying and starting over. At the same time, I just hate the thought that the same may feel they are carrying me through the level.

      • MadAmericanTacos says:

You don’t stick to the right side of the map? I usually use sprint on the cliff side of the guard rail and no matter what difficulty I can just run right past all the elites right to the truck…

      • Noobwarrior523 says:

Woody if I’m on I would do the campaign with you, WC i can pull off in 15 minutes, and I have the patience, I beat solo legendary so I’m used to dying ~100 times a level (except lone wolf, when I beat solo legendary, I was so happy I just ran into the open and got pummeled by an elite)

      • Scruff 815 says:

Woody – you can skip most of WC. You don’t actually need to start firing your gun until after the second Falcon ride. Look at Tyrant’s Mythic guide for tips on speed-running WC 🙂

It’s worth doing this one – remember that you CAN die, as long as you’re with another person / another totally inactive controller..

      • Gengo23 says:

        Noobwarrior523,

I’m down also. I’m terrible. Terrible, but I’ve done WC speed runs for every campaign challenge when the mission is optional and the mission is about difficulty, skulls, etc.

I am very patient, I’d do this with anyone.

      • Woody says:

LOL@ Noob: Running out into the open?!! Man, what a way to celebrate! lol

@Scruff: I will be sure to check out Tyrant’s guide. Thanks!

@Tacos: Assuming you’re talking about Nightfall, I’m fine sprinting through the stage on any difficulty. The problem I have is if there are enemies pass the “glitch” gate, due to co-op, then I have a trouble. In my opinion, that was the toughest part of the map.

      • SensoryFour34 says:

Tyrant also has a guide for Nightfall on co-op and it says that the party leader is the one who has to glitch through the gate, otherwise the enemies will spawn.

      • Locklear66 says:

I suggests running nightfall if you stay to the left at the beginning it preaty easy from there

    • Gengo23 says:

Yes, I agree with gans42 – Winter Contingency on Heroic is a breeze.

Even if you are bad at campaign, communicate with your Co-op and tell them that you are going to sit back to avoid triggering the Iron skull.

  5. Lefty734 says:

Darn it I was so close. I was hoping there wouldn’t be any good challenges before I got unbanned and today was the last day, but the challenges today are so awesome and it makes me sad 😦

    • MadAmericanTacos says:

Hey Lefty, what did you get banned for? Hasn’t it been like a week already?

      • Lefty734 says:

I was playing with an 8 year old as my guest and it was his first time playing so he mostly zero to negative one kills a game and the banhammer detected that as idling apparently. I don’t even know how I could use that to my advantage as guests don’t earn credits I couldn’t get kills on him and I didn’t know anybody on the other team. It has felt like forever since I was banned but I got banned Saturday night so I should be able to play tomOrrow

      • YoSoY says:

The same happened to me long time ago. I was banned 1 week.
Then I got banned again for 2 weeks just because someboody knocked the door, I went out my house and I forgot my keys, that and because a good friend of mine didn’t take me out of the party for at least 2 hours. So when I came back from my parent’s house to mine (with a copy of my keys), I saw my Spartan was still on and I remember I was worry about my K/D ratio. Then I was able to play 2 or 3 more games and then a message popped up saying that my account had been banned. I haven’t been banned a third time. Has anyone? What happens?

      • Lefty734 says:

Ha I just loved how everyone is obsessed with their k/d spread mine is -3000 I’ll never get it even

      • John says:

If you’re banned a third time I think it’s just longer again? It’s annoying they seem to go only by kills to detect idling rather than look at movement data although I guess with the character spawning in different locations that may be difficult.

As for K/D ratio mine is pretty poor and I couldn’t care less really. I was playing an Invasion game which highlighted how useless it is, my team (myself, my brother and four randoms) were up against a six man party who were all very high ranks. When the game started they came straight over and just spawn killed us but were caught out when one person slipped through and triggered the first section, surprisingly we got the core out. On their turn unbelievably they didn’t get past the first stage, my K/D for the game was about -40 (similar to the rest of my team) but in terms of the game itself we absolutely mauled them.

        John

  6. lolGTFOplz says:

hey everyone! Game night was great, as much as i was there, about 5 or 6 games. made alot of new friends! thanks for having me RDC! For the challenges today -scrolls up- not too bad, something that can be done. unllike 10 flat tires…. lol! off to work i go! good luck everyone. 😀

    • MadAmericanTacos says:

I know right? I only managed to get 2 out of 10 before I gave up last night lol.

      • Project SHAVE says:

Next Thursday when Flat Tire inevitably pops up again, play 2 rounds of Doubles with me and you’ll get all 10 vehicle kills. It’s not difficult. It took me 4 rounds playing solo to get the challenge, but later when my buddy signed on, him and I jumped into Doubles Arcadefight on Holdout. He proceeded to smash 5 Banshees. Next round was Arcadefight on Beach Head. He got 3 Wraiths and 2 Ghosts. Plus, we had a blast driving around in the warthog thrashing them Covies!

      • MadAmericanTacos says:

Looking forward too it. What timezone are you in?

      • Project SHAVE says:

Pacific Standard. Reppin’ that West Coast dawg! Hahaha!

But yeah, add me and we’ll wreck some vehicles!

      • lolGTFOplz says:

is there some specific way i should be killing these vehicles? lol. i always manage to destroy the covies before i destroy thier starships. >.<

      • Project SHAVE says:

@ GTFO, you want to use rocket launcher, sniper rifles (UNLESS YOU’RE PLAYING 2X SCORE ATTACK, IN WHICH CASE SNIPER RIFLES DONT COUNT ON BANSHEES, LAME), but I personally prefer Spartan Laser.

Add me as a friend and I’ll gladly help you or anyone get that daily. I actually don’t mind it because I get it within a few games.

      • Woody says:

I’m so upset at myself. I needed two more Flat Tires and didn’t get them, because I fell asleep and by the time I woke up from my little nap, it was time to see the “wardon”. lol

      • Project SHAVE says:

Haha warden. That’s hilarious Woody. If you’re on tonight, we should slay more fools in Grifball!

      • Woody says:

@Project: I’m sure I will be online off and on through the night, so I’m down for some grifball. If have to warn you, if my girl is playing along with me, my skill level may go down a little bit. A lot of times when I play split screen with her, my time with the hammer is off and it takes me a while to re-adjust.

      • Project SHAVE says:

@ Woody – No worries dude, the more the merrier! Plus, we just want to win!

  7. TheOneInYellow says:

Hi guys! Regarding the ‘Iron with Friends’ challenge, I (shamelessly) did this on Nightfall with a second controller and on Xbox Local (meaning I was still on Live and can get the challenge).

I have also heard that Co-Op on Nightfall may cause enemies to spawn beyond the big doors; fortunately, I did not have this issue, but my second co-op character was still in the creak of the canyon (between Waterfront and the hydroelectric power plant/Powerhouse) whilst I performed the door glitch.

Good challenges overall, and last night was awesome! thanks to everyone for yet another great Game Night ^_^

  8. Scruff 815 says:

Easy challenges today, though Living Dead is annoying me. Only 2 more sprees to get, then I can get back to winning games for the Weekly (again, anyone’s company is welcome).

Yay Game Night! Excellent fun as always, and thanks to everyone else being a bad influence I was up until like 3am; a new record for me! 😉 That game of CTF on Boneyard was sooooo tense… if only I hadn’t lost the Banshee I’d skyjacked like 2 minutes earlier 😉 Also congrats on that rather amazing betrayal of that jerk on our team on Abridged 😀 And yay for driving Snickerdoodle off the edge of a cliff in a rather one-sided murder/suicide pact 😉

Did you guys in Matthew’s party manage to get the Stockpile achievement yet?

  9. lolGTFOplz says:

sorry for banshee rolling into your face! 😛

  10. MadAmericanTacos says:

Oh I forgot, last night I was playing a round of Score Attack and was doing pretty good. Nuked a couple of elites with the rod cannon and next thing you know I was dead because a drop pod landed right on top of me lol. That has to be a first for me but it gave me a pretty good laugh while I was waiting to respawn. Had to clip it and save cause it was soooo randomly wierd.

    • Woody says:

LOL – Wow! I’ve seen that a couple of times on “Fails of the Weak”, but didn’t think anyone on this site would experience that. Perhaps I need to stop laughing about it, because it may happen to me one day.

      • MadAmericanTacos says:

Please laugh away cause its cause its pretty rare 🙂 I will upload the clip tonight and send you the link so you can get a good laugh.

    • Paul says:

I think they should make it into a challenge…. Covies Revenge – get killed 2 times in MF by drop pods (not allowed to use LNoS)

    • John says:

Similarly I was amused to see a group of grunts killed by the ordinance drop.

I was not amused though when trying to get Flat Tyre that the Banshee boosted straight into a phantom before spinning off and smashing into the ground which blew it to pieces. Needless to say I gave up on the challenge.

  11. Project SHAVE says:

Will someone explain to me why Iron with a Friend is worth less than Nature vs Nurture? This daily is not worth doing. Let’s say it takes you 20 minutes to do that challenge. 1750 cR. Whereas 20 minutes in a Doubles FF game, you can get upwards of 6000, sometimes more.

    • Lefty734 says:

It is like that for most challenges, but they are for variety. I know you can earn twice as many credits playing ff or mm over and over but it’s just so boring and challenges mix it up a bit

      • Project SHAVE says:

Word. I like that I’m complaining about low cR payout but I’m still going to do the challenge.

        …in a manner of speaking… 😉

      • MadAmericanTacos says:

Let me guess you are going to use the second controller and just let the guest spawn to you? Oh wait that’s my plan lol!

    • Lefty734 says:

And for the first question probably the same reason that flat tire has same amount of credits but different amount of vehicles.

    • Woody says:

Hmmm…. that is a head scratcher indeed. Since you brought up FF doubles, I may just do a lot of those over the weekend, unless my girl decides to participate in Halo. She’ll prefer bashing people in the head with the hammer in grifball.

      • MadAmericanTacos says:

My wife is the same way, its either the campaign, griftball or nothing lol

      • Woody says:

Well, at least she is willing to be campaign. I can’t say the same for mine, unless it is challenge related. She has lately gotten addicted to doing challenges now, just so she can hurry up and get enough credits to dress up her Spartan the way she wants. She wants Emile’s helmet so bad, but she has a long way to go. lol

      • Project SHAVE says:

I’ll definitely jump into some doubles with ya Woody. It’ll be nice to play with people that DONT constantly use FRG or rockets. gotta work on them AR kills!

      • gans42 says:

im definitely up for doubles with people…i always end up using rockets or FRG just so i can keep up with kills, but how i long to be able to use small arms, automatic, and precision weapons!

    • Scruff 815 says:

20 minutes?! Gans and I did Nightfall co-op in 3.52 earlier. It’s definitely worth doing it.

      • Project SHAVE says:

My way won’t require a 2nd controller or another person. Great success!

      • Project SHAVE says:

Oh and Scruff, I was just being hypothetical about the 20 minutes. I know how easy a speed run through nightfall is, I just don’t feel like doing it :/

      • MadAmericanTacos says:

How can you do it without the second controller or person?

      • gans42 says:

yeah that was fun and easy. then boosting in infection…woo! oh and the 3:52 is with scruff getting stuck behind a rock for a bit (i assure you, he’s very talented)

      • Gengo23 says:

Yes, more info please on no second controller and no other person to do the coop challenge.

        Please.

  12. Anonymous says:

i got the spree and kills dailys just from 2 games of infection its the obvious choice

  13. Noobwarrior523 says:

I hit general…yay! Only 1 million credits until grades don’t exist!

    • MadAmericanTacos says:

Congrats! The one million actually goes by quicker than you think, once you get past Gereral Grade 1 that is.

    • Woody says:

Congrats!! I remember doing flips and cartwheels when I hit General… okay, not really, but I was very excited. lol

    • Project SHAVE says:

Good for you brutha! I just hit Field Marshall last night. I’m super stoked! My plan is to hit Hero by the 18th.

      • Woody says:

Congrats on reaching Field Marshall! At the rate I’m going I will probably reach Hero three weeks from today, unless the super jackpot is in a favorable gametype of mine.

      • MadAmericanTacos says:

Speaking of which, aside from getting it in any playlist, when was the last time we had a super jackpot in fire fight? Seems like we are due for it don’t ya think!

      • Woody says:

Oh my gosh… if the super jackpot was in firefight, then I would have to tell my girl to give up on playing grifball for the weekend. Afterwards, I would tell her to get over it, pick up the controller and learn to shoot moving targets, instead of shooting the ground or the clouds. lol

      • MadAmericanTacos says:

Oh yeah that reminds me, I was bored one time waiting for a new round on Waterfront so I decided to shoot random stuff with the rocket launcher, well turns out you can actually shoot one at the moon and it will hit after about 10 seconds of flight. Nothing special just something to do if your stuck with nothing else to do for a few seconds.

      • Project SHAVE says:

Thanks Woody! I felt pretty damn accomplished. Haha

      • gans42 says:

woody she wasnt shooting at the ground, she was doing an expedited method of digging to search for buried treasure. and as for shooting at the sky, im sure she just wants to see if she can catch her bullets. that or if the saying is really true “what goes up must come down”. your girlfriend is very smart trying to disprove gravity like that 😉

      • Woody says:

        LOL@ gans’ digging comment.

Well, I feel better knowing she wasn’t wasting bullets, now. lol

    • Noobwarrior523 says:

Ty everyone and shave congratulations on hitting field Marshall! I’m going to try to finish the weekly to get a good start on the next million ahead.

      • gans42 says:

if you need a partner so as not to play with randoms, hit me up. i had last night with you in game night and willing to play some more

  14. Lefty734 says:

Hey does anybody want to do custom games today andor tomorrow because I’m so bored and I can’t do mm. Gamertag is lefty734 I’ll be on in like 45 minutes.

  15. 'Cos says:

    Hello all.

Home on a quick break, and just wanted to give a shout out to everyone in my party last night. I had much, much fun. It was a nice change being able to play with people i know. I realy liked how everyone ‘held their own’. Some good players out there, indeed. And my last game of the night….the BTB on Boardwalk was worth saving and watching again. That was teamwork at it’s finest, and that’s what i get the most pleasure with in Halo. Playing with good, coordinated, friendly players. Thanks again!

…and to all : happy gaming, congrats on your rankings, and i won’t be on till midnight EST, but i am always willing to help others out…no matter how. Good luck…

    – seventh dawg

  16. Locklear66 says:

Ah yes finaly so play time my girlfriend has been down for a week and I aint played but she was Gina with my mom when I got home from work so I get to play and read you guys post but hey I ain’t complainen

  17. gans42 says:

anyone know what the super jackpot is?

    • Brian says:

There isn’t any this week because 343 just took over the playlists the other day 😦

      • Lefty734 says:

What?no! I was looking forward to the jackpot when I got unbanned 😦

  18. John says:

I see Achievement hunter like that insane infection mode as well:

Hopefully we’ll be having some more of that soon on the Gamenights or one of the similarly crazy variations.

    John

  19. Nick (crazybydefault) says:

    Hey guys!

Awesome game night last night! I was disappointed I couldn’t enjoy *all* of it, due to me having to take random breaks. My ability to concentrate takes a spiral as I keep playing without stopping 😛 As for the challenges, I actually managed to get the 10 sprees in 3 games of Grifball (including a Frenzy/Dreamcrusher!) I seem to be having terrible luck with the 5 assists in one game though for some reason…
