  1. One Spartan Army – Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR
  2. Flat Tire – Kill 5 enemy vehicles in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

One Spartan Army – Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

You get 120 Grunts in Gruntpocalypse, about 100 enemies in Score Attack and something like 330 in a Firefight Matchmaking game (although split between up to 4 people). There was a great comment a while ago (sorry I can’t remember who said it) that if you need to ‘top up’ your FF kills, jump into a game of Generator Defense or Crashsite and once you have your kills give up the defense. That’s a great idea in situations like this. For today jump through Score Attack to try for the other FF challenge then return to this as necessary.

Flat Tire – Kill 5 enemy vehicles in Firefight Matchmaking – 1000 cR

Holdout is a good option for this because you’re guaranteed a Banshee each game, and if you take it out quick (Sniper Rifle in the crow’s nest on top of the base) then you can get several. Another trick is to keep the last Grunt or two in a wave alive to extend the game as much as possible. Beachhead and Outpost do have some vehicles dropped, 2X Score Attack has been reported to do well here, although sometimes there are none sometimes there are 4 or 5.

The T.G. Opposition – Kill 40 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with the Shotgun – 1000 cR

The best way is Score Attack/2XSA on any map, particularly once the Brutes and Skirmishers turn up as they make real efforts to get to you. The Shotgun is one of the loadouts so you can use it for as long as you need, just let guys come to you rather than going into the fray.

A Side of Huevos – Kill 40 enemies with headshots in Nightfall on Normal – 1000 cR

You get 50 something bullets, so just go through and headshot everything you can. There is a checkpoint trick you can use to get this quickly, get a checkpoint trigger just behind the first Elite, headshot him, then reset the checkpoint, rinse and repeat. Note it is only the Sniper Rifle you can use to get the challenge, and it has to be a headshot. I played through to the end of the first camp (before the big creatures), then restarted the mission and got everything next time around. Don’t forget that Grunt’s heads are slightly lower than the tanks on their backs and forward.

I’m pleased I saved the last 37 waves of the weekly challenge for today. I’m going to play through FFA a few times hoping I can get vehicles, and then do a Score Attack type game if any need daily challenges need finishing off.

    For the Side of Huevos challenge it doesn’t say it has to be with the sniper rifle? It just says headshots :/ sorry if I’m wrong Matthew, I’m not questioning your judgement 😀

    i have 18 waves left to do so im happy for these chalenges today..for the vehicle one, the best option is firefight doubles or firefight arcade on beachhead..there is a vehicle on every first and last wave..and sometimes you get even two vehicles in one wave.

    i need another 600k for noble,so hoping to get there soon enough lol

        Meh… K/D doesn’t really mean anything. A low one (like 0.50) could mean that you play a lot of Living Dead and get stuck as the zombies a lot. Or that you’re a really good team player – generally if you go for the objectives in Invasion, you’re going to die a lot. But you’ll win the game. A high one could mean that you camp with a sniper rifle instead, or play a lot of Rumble Pit.

        I like going positive in Slayer games, but I really don’t care about K/D as a general rule. It’s all relative…

        scruff i’d disagree. while nothing is a 100% accurate testament of skill, i find that K/D tends to be the most accurate (as opposed to rank). also in infection, even if you get stuck as zombie a lot, just a few rounds as human can even a bad K/D out if youre good. additionally, even if youre a good team player (wind up with a lot of assists in slayer based games), chances are youre with a teammate that will get assists whenever you get a kill, basically what im saying is, unless you die every time you make a guy one shot, chances are youre going to have a similar K/D per game, which tends to reflect the player’s skill. though as i said before, nothing is 100% accurate

Two consecutive games with the exact same teammates and a total difference in K/D of 26. Primarily because I don’t mind throwing myself in harm’s way if it means my team will get the objective; crucial in a game like Invasion.

        Assists don’t count towards K/D either, so if you have someone on your team in a BTB game who loves to drive the Warthog or pilot the Falcon, then their K/D might take a hammering, even though they could be instrumental in winning the game.

        If you could only look at K/D spreads for specific game modes then that might be a better indicator, but I find the best way of seeing someone’s skill is to play a few games with them 🙂

        i know assists dont count towards K/D, but looking at your game history you helped prove my point, your overall spread for the first bunch of games on that page is just about even, and thats with throwing yourself mercilessly at your opponents. your skill speaks for itself. if someone was truly bad, they would be -10 like every game or something resulting in a low K/D, but a good player i believe can keep it around even

        Someone a while back came up with the KAW / DL formula, to calculate things a bit more accurately.

        Kills x Assists x Wins / Deaths x Losses

        I agree with Scruff though. If you play objectives for the objective, and callout to your teammates, I can handle my terrible K/D.

        @scruff if you have the halo reach essential stats app it will show you your k/d for every game mode; competitive, invasion, arena, firefight, campaign, and costom (all except the last two counting only matchmaking)

        Also, it will also show your stats for each individual matchmaking play list (though they are not as in depth)

        @everyone else, I believe that you can’t judge a persons k/d is a fair testament to their skill, my k/d, for example, is around 0.60 in competitive games, I play a lot of griff ball and swat, in griff ball I usually go for the ball and normally end up dying (down goes my k/d) but I still win around 60% of my games of griff ball, while I’m in swat (and I’m playing good) I’ll be a 15 or so but I win only 40% of my games.

        So, from what I can tell it doesn’t mater what your stats are, but the stats of your teammates is what does 🙂

        im still of the opinion K/D does not mean nothing. i understand that there are factors that can make it less accurate, like objective, but i never claimed for it to be a god ordained indicator of true skill, but from my experiences, it matters, almost always. i play a majority of slayer based playlists, and in those if i see my opponents have a 2.5 spread i know im f’ed, and if i see my opponents have a .70 i know i have a chance at a steak dinner. to say that K/D means nothing is ignoring an important indicator of a player’s skill level

        If you really want to look at your stats in good comparison take some time to enter this project and do the survey on Reach players. You’ll get a great page of stats showing your place in the world of Reach.

        I’m in the top 16% for games played, and top 6% for commendations. However I’m poor for k/d and w/l, but that’s because I’m a) not that good and b) only playing for kicks. Usually.

        Just want to throw in my two cents. K/D is an indication of a player’s skill level – http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/default.aspx?player=supers0ak%20FTW – or not. There are many factors that contribute to a K/D that I’ve noticed:

        – The obvious one being how well they play in a game. Some people can perform superb in one game and then immediately lose all sense of tactics, teamwork and precision in the next game (cf. CallUpChuck).
        – Performance of teammates and opponents. The better the players, the worse your K/D, either because you are competing for kills or getting killed.
        – Total kills. The more total kills you have, the bigger the spread needs to be to sustain that K/D.
        – The playlist. It’s easier to get a good spread in Infection and BTB than the Team Slayer or SWAT playlists.
        – How much caffeine is in your blood
        – The wind chill in your neighborhood at the time
        – The last time you copulated
        – What kind of weapon you like to use. Usually the banshee and sniper fanatics have a higher K/D, but may be bullet fodder when only equipped with an AR/pistol.

        Ahhnow I am just rambling and naming off random unrelated reasons. I just made that last one up 😉

        Thanks for the link, Matthew. It’s kinda interesting to see how you do compared to everyone else. I’m in the top 9% for games and 6% for commendations. But I’m only 79% for K/D and 97% for W/L because nearly a third of the games I play are in Grifball, where there’s no way of knowing if the other team is going to score as fast as they can, or drag it out to get kills. When they play for kills, it’s a lot easier to get killed because the other team tries to kill you, and it’s also easy to get betrayed. If I were as good in other playlists as I am in Grifball, I’m sure my K/D would be a lot higher.

    This is genuinely the worst set of dailies I’ve seen since Reach came out. Terrible challenges with terrible payouts. Bleh. I will still, of course, do them 😉 Except maybe Flat Tire 😉

      im gonna do flat tire, i like playing 2x on either beach head or holdout, you can get vehicle kills up without competition (or plays doubles attack with a friend and work out a system for who gets vehicle kills). also because of all the flat tire challenges im only 15 away from an impressive bronze!

        Yes; but even then, the FF ones today can all be done in one game. It’s not like you’ve got a decent payout for something like ‘kill 200 enemies on Glacier’ or whatever which would have at least been something. Whinge whinge whinge.. 😉

        well scruff if youre not in the mood to play today because these are low payout challenges, ill gladly go for some 200k achievements with you in ODST that we missed game night, this is open to anyone else who might be interested. i wanna play alpha site, rally point, and crater (there may be another that im forgetting right now)

    Finished the weekly yesterday, and finished all the daily challenges today early (by exactly 1 pm UK time, though I started one hour after the challenges went live).

    Though I am not a HUGE fan of Flat Tire >_> , I luckily got a Spartan Laser on my favourite Flat Tire gametype and map (2x Score Attack on Holdout) and managed to get four Banshee kills (the last Banshee showed up 30 secs before the game ran out of time). On this map, I also used the shotgun to kill all Grunts and Jackals (got 40 easily by hanging just inside the door of the starting spawn point). I killed all enemies without dying by the end of the game, and bagged the ‘One Spartan Army’ to boot.
    Then I got the same gametype and map again, and used a Grenade Launcher for the first Banshee I saw (making sure it fell into the abyss). Finished, but died twice 😦 .

    Finally, I could not get the checkpoint before the first Elite on Nightfall, but I just used the last saved point and ran from the initial spawn, up the cliff side, and shot the Elite as soon as I saw him instead; a little longer, but still fast.

    All in all, a good, fast set of challenges completed ^_^

      i find that i cant get that checkpoint anymore in nightfall, so what i do is right in the beginning, instead of running around the cliff on the left side to the elite, theres a short tunnel on the right side, and if you go through there, instead of standing with his back to you, the elite will walk right past you, which means easy lining up of a headshot, and reverting to last save to rinse lather and repeat

        There’s also a checkpoint if you run straight off the left of the cliff with the Elite on, head towards the tree in front of you, turn around and aim at the Elite’s face, then slowly walk backwards until a checkpoint triggers. 🙂

        i tried that last week when you suggested that with grenades to kill 200 grunts, but i couldnt get it. i just kept redoing the beginning of sword base so i could raise my automatic weapons a bit

        Thanks so much for this gans! I’ve had the same problem with the checkpoint. I’m able to get the checkpoint, but whenever I try to back up and try to line up the headshot, Jun will decide to use his gun instead of his brain and just shoot at something. Then, the Elite will move and mess everything up. This works really well if you’ve got enough patience to revert every time. I just wish I could find a better way to do this AFK so I can die instead of having to start over.

        Just read your post. Banshee’s on Holdout don’t appear often UNLESS you play either Sniper Attack or 2x Attack. At one time, I used to get 5 or even 6 Banshee’s, but I’ll be luck to get 3 or 4 :/

        Otherwise, play lot’s of Beachead. If your like me, in solo, I use a combination of the DMR or Sniper Rifle alongside the Rocket Hog on a particular part of the map (near the cliff’s, beside the stream), and rain hell on all those that come close to my wrath.
        At the end, if a Ghost drops, I can annihilate it with ease (as it drops near me), and if a Wraith drops, it stupidly shoots the building, but not at the cliffs (where I am); not sure why. I just leave one Covie alive after killing the rest, and run/drive to the wraith and smash it, then kill the last alien (or steal the Wraith it to take out the last Covie. Suck it up!).

        This is one of two ways to do it on 2x Score Attack. When I start, I hope, HOPE, that one of the weapon drops is a a Spartan Laser, as this virtually GUARANTEE’S a vehicle kill, but because that’s random, my video shows how EMP weapon’s, such as the Grenade Launcher, can work against Banshee’s. Remember, the Banshee MUST fall off the map to get the vehicle kill.
        The video also shows what happens if I fail to kill Banshee and get the vehicle kill, as the method is not perfect.
        One last thing, as 2x Score Attack causes all enemies to be weaker, and weapons stronger, using OTHER weaponz, such as Rocket Launcher’s, Sniper Rifles, DMR, Turrets, and so on, will kill the DRIVER of the Banshee, which is annoying >_<

        Once Matthew gets the RDC Guides up and running, I'll write a full walkthrough on how I get Flat Tire so easily, and the difficulties I face as well (I may even purchase Bungie Pro to add lots of video's too) 🙂

  5. Firefight Doubles Arcade is best for the Vehicle kills. When me and my girlfriend play i always tell her to let me get the Vehicle kills since she is playing as the guest, and if we play on Beachhead or Holdout i almost always get 5 to 6 Vehicles in 1 game. Sometimes More.

    I get a decent amount of vehicle kills in Arcadefight on Beachhead and Outpost. So long as you pick the Camo/Sniper/DMR loadout, you’re working with hitscan weapons and will get faster vehicle kills than anyone using slower-traveling heavy weapon projectiles.

    On another note, I hit Field Marshall last night. Now I have to earn 1.6 million credits (!) before I unlock any new pieces of armor, which to my knowledge now consist only of final upgrades to the Security and GUNGNIR helmits and the “Haunted” Pilot helmet exclusive to inheritors. I understand that this an opportunity to consolidate and buy up all the unlocked armor I don’t already have (hello, JFO!). but I can’t help but think Bungie could have spaced the rank/armor unlock spread differently to avoid this sort of dead zone where no new rank-exclusive armor unlocks for several hard-earned ranks.

      i could not agree more. i just hit mythic, and since hero ive been buying stuff from the armory as it becomes available. as i come close to nova ill have 100% armory, and all ill be missing is the haunted helmet, which by the time im inheritor ill have around 9 million credits for a helmet that costs 1…

        Fingers crossed that 343 are going to bring us new armour. It is supposedly a huge title update they’re doing, and the excess amount of cR involved in being in the top few ranks is just silly at the moment 😕

      • I definately understand that! Sucks that we dont have anything else to buy now, atleast until we hit Inheritor, which according to Halocharts.com its around 240 days. 😉

        From what I’ve read it’s not possible for them to add new armour as it has to be part of the map itself which they can’t change. Similarly they can’t add or remove vehicles which are part of the map like the ghost on Beachhead or the warthogs on the FF levels

    I’m really getting tired of all these Covenant-cide and One Spartan Army challenges every day with minimum payouts. I feel like they should be more generous with the credits. At least 7-8000 credit payouts every day for daily challenges.

      Agreed, it would be good to see something a bit longer for the weekends when a lot of people probably have more to play.

      Admittedly it’s been handy for me as I”ve been working this weekend although I managed to make a complete mess of it this evening by first choosing a DMR loadout to do the shotfun challenge then on the next game choosing a grenade launcher loadout as I’d read the challenge as being a grenade one then wondered why the kills weren’t counting. Needless to say I’ve finished up for the night…

  9. Me and my son FINALLY hit 100% Armory. One of the main reasons we play so much is to earn credits to buy things we dont have. I guess now we will be playing to make it down that LONG road to Inheritor. LoL. Like i said a while back, since Gears Of War 3 comes out next month i dont know if we will ever hit Inheritor. Even though we are over half way to Nova, we still have a long, long way to go!
