Camp Froman, Indeed – Earn 300 kills with Precision weapons in multiplayer Matchmaking – 28343 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

As the story goes, a Bungie engineer Luke Timmins had the Gamertag Froman and used to camp the same spot with a Sniper Rifle in playtesting. And so it came to pass that area was called Camp Froman.

camp froman Pictures, Images and Photos

I really want that to be true.

Anyway, what you want is a way to get this quickly? Well first off what are Precision weapons? They are anything that give you a headshot, with the exception of the Pistol (because that’s a Small Arms weapon). So I’m talking about the DMR, the Needle Rifle, the Focus Rifle and the Sniper Rifle. What we need now is a game type that allows you to use them and get kills really quickly.

And hey presto, Team SWAT was bestowed upon the Earth. For anyone who hasn’t tried it, SWAT is 2 teams of up to 4, no shields, no motion sensor, only DMR and Pistol, no grenades and the only armour ability is Sprint. So essentially, one headshot kills. That’s going to be the best guaranteed way to get Precision weapon kills easily, since almost every kill is with the DMR.

But what are your other options so you can mix it up? Well a lot of game types either let you start with a DMR or Needle Rifle, as well as having them in the maps. The Team Slayer ‘Slayer DMR’ gametype is obviously good, although a trifle annoying because you have to get through someone’s shields before you get the kill.

A lot of maps have the Sniper rifle, if you get good with it it’s a very powerful weapon. Team Snipers obviously helps here, especially on a map like Boardwalk or Hemorrhage.

Invasion probably also works well because you can get a lot of kills in one game, and the loadouts normally work in your favour once you’re through the first objective.

  2. Zidane says:

20 games of swat of the week will wrap this up

  3. Krandyt says:

Now this is a weekly I like very much i love SWAT so its all good! 

  4. Paul says:

Yuck. I suck at SWAT (and anything else that needs accuracy) – I’m lucky to get double figures in any of these game types, and most of those kills tend to be melee/grenade! I have trouble spotting the opposition to start with, then I can’t position the reticle quickly/accurately enough (lots of spry’n’pray bodyshots) and fall prey to my target headshotting me. Add to that my tendency to clench and it makes for a poor experience – I pity my team-mates but have to do it for commendations/challenges.
Must be my age as my boy is an absolute demon on these – I watch him in awe as he decimates the opposition. May have to ask him to do them for me…

    • gans42 says:

why dont you try lowering your controller sensitivity?

      • Paul says:

I’m using 3 – tried 1 and 2 but then I can’t track fast enough. 4 works ok for Grifball but not SWAT, anything higher than that and it feels like the tail-end of a really good night out, eyes swivelling independently everywhere. Add to that early stages of arthritis (fingers feel like hosepipe under pressure) and I consider I’m lucky to hit anything with a bullet in MM if players are experienced. FF and Campaign are easier as the targets don’t bob about so much.

Maybe I should get an aimbot…

      • Zidane says:

Can you tell me more about the controller sensitivity?

      • Paul says:

in the game menu, look for controller – one of the settings is look sensitivity and this controls the speed at which your view pans around. Goes from 1 (slow) to 10 (insane). My stick control is poor so I have default 3/4 to avoid overshooting

      • Zidane says:

        Thanks Paul!

    • Woody says:

I know how you feel. I used to talk about how terrible I was with headshot, using precision, especially at a quick rate. Now, I feel I’m pretty decent at it. I played so much FF, using shots precision weapons that it actually helped. When I was playing FF I would force myself to get headshots without zooming and without having to wait for the reticle to turn red. Surprising it has carried over in SWAT for me. I keep my speed sensitivity at “4”.

    • aeoliant says:

SWAT is 70% map awareness and 30% reaction time/aim… get some buddies, work as a team, cover all the doors and you’ll end up positive

    • Shane says:

I’m hearing you this morning. No matter how many times I seem to be aiming at their little pointy heads, I get bodyshots. I even tried to headshot an still opponent from the back and after two shots he turned around and popped me. Maybe it’s just lag / morning. I did dial my sensitivity from 8 to 4 which helped but I still did awful.

The *fun* way for me to get this is multiteam because every so often Elite Slayer will pop up which usually makes for an easy 15+ precision kills. I like pretty much all the multiteam gametypes even the occasional Rocket Hog Race.

    • SensoryFour34 says:

It’s always weird to hear about everyone playing on 3-5 sensitivity and thinking something like 7 is too fast. I’ve played on 10 since I got the game, and I never have any problems.

  5. John says:

Screw that for a laugh, won’t be bothering with this one…I can’t get the feel of swat at all even though I can manage a high number of headshots in other modes.

    John

  6. Woody says:

At one point, I would’ve been disgusted with this challenge, but since I’ve gotten confidence with precision weapons in SWAT, I actually welcome this challenge.

  7. gans42 says:

SWAT is my numero uno game, so you can pretty much guarantee i will have this one early on (especially because I can really only play today and tomorrow lol)

  8. Robotperson says:

Portentous MJ quote for your consideration:

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

I’m rubbish at swat too, but hopefully I’ll be a bit less rubbish by this time next week.

  9. jason says:

sounds fun even tho im no good at SWAT.. why not give it a try nothin better to do right?

  10. LordICE83 says:

This challenege is still achievable even if you don’t play SWAT. Big Team Battle is the way I plan to tackle it. All the maps are generally wide open so the DMR is lethal….as well as the snipe.

    • crazybydefault says:

I’m not a heavy SWAT player (but I’m getting into it!) so I might go BTB for part of this as well! 😀

  11. G says:

Love SWAT… I’m gonna enjoy getting this one!

  12. Scruff 815 says:

There’s always Snipers if you’re no good at SWAT. But then, SWAT is all about practice. I *hated* it when it was part of the Team Slayer playlist, because I was utterly terrible at it. Now I get it, and most of the time I have great games. Though I have found that I have an upper limit of about an hour’s play before I start sucking at it and have to move onto something with a bit more variety 🙂

Still, over 120 kills in from a few games this morning. Not going to be a difficult challenge 😉

I suspect there’ll be an impromptu game night on Thursday; if so then people can buddy up to get this done, though personally I’d rather play something else (DLC playlists in particular), I’ll probably have gotten the weekly done by Thursday.

    • callupchuck says:

Team Objective also has DMR starts. With only a time limit and the objective to worry about, kills can get very high. There’s always a chance to run across a full party killing squad…

    • SensoryFour34 says:

I used to be the same way. Now I only hate SWAT when I’m alone.

  13. lolGTFOplz says:

Is the picture above from zanzibar/last resort?

    • Paul says:

which picture? main one on the right under the “random search” list looks like the bridge on The Cage to me

  14. lolGTFOplz says:

The picture underneath the text “As the story goes, a Bungie engineer Luke Timmins had the Gamertag Froman and used to camp the same spot with a Sniper Rifle in playtesting. And so it came to pass that area was called Camp Froman.”

  15. l0 Dolla Bagel says:

I am happy because when I first got Reach in January, they had this challenge on and I couldn’t complete it because I got the game Friday. This will be so much fun! n_n

    • gans42 says:

      also its 300 not 1000

      • Shane says:

It was 500 back then (unless I missed the 1000 week) for 11,000 points. I remember aiming for 70 kills a day. 1000 is doable but would take a *lot* of time. 343 are piling on the love here.

      • gans42 says:

youre right, it was 500. there was a get 1k kills in matchmaking

      • Zidane says:

Next week I think 3430 in ff, 3430cr

  16. GenuinRisk says:

There was a time I would have abhorred this challenge…but now, I’m quite happy about it…i used to hate SWAT as I felt it tested reflexes more than kills but I’ve grown to love the game type…it’s actually what I play the most…the key, MAP AWARENESS…of course reflexes and on-the-edge preparedness for anything round the corner…my sensitivity is set to 6 normally which helps…also, never aim for the body,…it’s a waste of time…headshots all the way. Should wrap this up in a day or two…good luck all

    • Zidane says:

I tried increasing sensitivity but it floored my game, think I need to get use to it, 6? Show off 😉

      • SensoryFour34 says:

It’s all a matter of what you’re used to. If you play enough, you’ll eventually get used to it. If 6 is showing off, then what do you think of 10? 😉

  17. fuzzjp says:

Probably one of the easiest weekly’s yet. You can get this without trying really especially if you are only going for the daily’s, I got mine in 3 hours since I mixed some snipers in.

  18. Matthew Vose says:

Of course it helps a lot when you get a full sixth of your required kills in one game:

    http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/GameStats.aspx?gameid=811012640&player=Loreweaver

  19. gans42 says:

got this in just a few hours of gameplay. really not so bad

  20. Zidane says:

Anyone know what components make up your HC skill?

    • crazybydefault says:

Win/Loss ratio is the main component I believe. K/D also plays a small factor.

      • Zidane says:

        Cheers CRazy, often wondered

      • Zidane says:

Playing tonight clocked a good few got the weekly already!!

      • André says:

I have 50 in Swat on Halocharts. win 57%, k/d 1.63. I guess you just have to play in the same playlist a lot..all my other playlists I have 1-25 with the same win k/d stats, some even higher.
