4th October – Halo Reach Daily Challenge & Commentary

Today’s challenges are listed below:

  1. Three Dog Fight – Earn a Triple Kill in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  2. This is my Rifle… – Earn 30 kills with precision weapons in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2500 cR
  3. Deathless Alexandria – Complete Alexandria on Legendary without dying – 4200 cR
  4. Single Wield – Earn 40 kills with small arms weapons in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2600 cR

Commentary to follows after the break…

Three Dog Fight – Earn a Triple Kill in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Multi-Team, Grifball and Team SWAT usually yield a good chance for multikills. Rumble Pit, particularly Juggernaut, is also an excellent place to do it in. Probably Grifball works best for you here, since it’s a massive melee with one hit kills for the most part.

This is my Rifle… – Earn 30 kills with precision weapons in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2500 cR

Precision weapons are the DMR, Sniper Rifle, Focus Beam and Needle Rifle. Team SWAT will do you well here. Unless you use melee or Pistol every kill will be a precision weapon kill, so play it a few times, try and get a good team who will cover your back (and you theirs), and just do this over 2 or 3 games.

Deathless Alexandria – Complete Alexandria on Legendary without dying – 4200 cR

This can be a really difficult mission to do on Legendary, especially without dying. So chances are you’ll want to use the trick of playing through the level as normal, then at the very last checkpoint save and quit, resume Campaign then you’re good to go. For advice on playing the Campaign, I always recommend using Tyrant’s Mythic guide, since it’s so good for Legendary playthroughs.

Single Wield – Earn 40 kills with small arms weapons in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2600 cR

Team SWAT – Magnums will be a good way of doing this. The Plasma Pistol also counts as Small Arms, so think about using that to take guys down, it’s good for stripping away shields, but the Magnum is better for unshielded guys. Infection is good too – you can snipe the zombies using your pistol and get a few kills that way, esp in Cage, Courtyard  or Pinnacle where you can see Zs coming.

SWAT / SWAT/ no thanks / SWAT and/or Team Slayer etc

In other news, thanks to Pete, poro & Digi for last night’s gaming session, taking me up to 10 wins on the Weekly and taking Digi to Eclipse 😀 And thanks to Yellow for a few games this morning! I should be around at some point this afternoon and/or evening for some more gaming 🙂

In other news, the TU Beta playlist is live and it is… alright. It’s just like Reach, but slightly more balanced. I guess I was expecting new maps, new gametypes and the like; all you actually get is regular maps with regular gametypes but with the nice new armour ability changes included. 85% bloom feels lovely, and armour lock and active camo now work like they should’ve done in the first place. Which is nice 🙂

    • Sir Galahad 63 says:

How does the bloom work? As in do you get to set it, or it it preset? I’ll be playing it tomorrow, but just wanted to know sooner.

    • SensoryFour34 says:

That’s disappointing. 😦 I was hoping for new maps too. Oh well, at least we won’t have to worry about Armor Lock any more. 😀

    • HC Sangheili says:

Additional Playlist update details (this is from bs angel, couldn’t locate the forum thread specifically for a link):

      • Team Classic Playlist removed: While we’re removing the Team Classic playlist, we’re not forsaking the classic community. We’ll be reintroducing the classic experience when Anniversary drops in November, and even giving the players a defining trait of Combat Evolved Multiplayer by putting the three shot pistol back into your hands, right where it belongs. Speaking of which, is that a Magnum in your pocket, or are you just happy to hear this news?

      • Premium/DLC Playlists condensed into one list: Both DLC lists are being combined into one playlist. We’ll be keeping this list at the larger of the two team sizes so that teams of six can enjoy both Slayer and Objective gametypes as well as Invasion.

      • Bro Slayer removed from Team Slayer: Spawning concerns and feedback regarding this gametype indicated that we will need to look at additional choices for spawning locations if we are going to reintroduce it to Reach Matchmaking in the future. Meanwhile, you’ll have to find some other way to spawn on your bro.

      • Atom removed from Team Slayer: As part of our process of cycling through community content, older maps will occasionally be taken out of Reach Matchmaking. Don’t take it personally though, Atom. It’s not you, it’s me. Ok, so maybe it’s you. But whatever.

      • Stockpile added back into Team Objective: The addition of Stockpile back into Team Objective will ensure that the Stockpile-based achievements are supported and attainable. Bleep bloop!

      • Matchmaking updated to allow Co-Op Campaign and Firefight play with no HDD: Can I get a whoop whoop? Or maybe a what what? No? Ok, moving on.

    • Digipatd says:

The night went really well, I got all four of my 50’s!

  2. leroygetz says:

Bloom is preset but feels great!

  3. Sir Galahad 63 says:

    Request:
    Gamertag of Mister X.

  4. ASLANS R0AR says:

Question about this tip above on deathless Alexandria: “So chances are you’ll want to use the trick of playing through the level as normal, then at the very last checkpoint save and quit, resume Campaign then you’re good to go.”

Does this mean that you play through on normal difficulty then save/quit then switching to legendary then reloading? I didn’t think that was possible, but maybe I misunderstood.

    • HC Sangheili says:

Play through on Legendary and if you die througout, ignore it and keep playing. At the very end, after “Bravo” (there is not Start/Alpha/Bravo for New Alexandria), before taking out the 5 Shade Turrets (I think, or focus rifles maybe), save and quit. Resume the game, finish the last task, and you’re good.

  5. Mister X says:

2 games of SWAT,2 of SWAT Magnums and 1 hour and a half and i’m done. 10 games for the Weekly!

    • Mister X says:

      Alexandria it’s the only level a i didn’t have a save. Now i have =)

      • Dogmeat says:

So now you’re claiming you just completed a SLASO run of New Alexandria and that you have stored gamesaves from all the other missions?

While I understand you’re proud to have merited 17-18 kills per SWAT match, your current statements have no merit with us until you can provide evidence. We want to celebrate with you if you are truly as skilled as you say.

What is your hesitancy to direct us to your game history, hmm?

      • lolGTFOplz says:

        Dogmeat for president.

      • Shane says:

        Aargh! Don’t encourage trolls!

      • Dogmeat says:

Don’t worry, Shane! Consider my last post my final attempt to help prove mister x as anything but. I’m done wasting my time typing replies only to be offered fishy explanations (or none at all).

lolGTFOplz, may I be treasurer instead? i promise i’ll do an excellent job holding onto the money! *writhing hands together and laughing maniacally*

      • Scruff 815 says:

        Trololololololol

      • lolGTFOplz says:

Not too sure how much money the treasury has now a days!!!! But by all means Dogmeat for Treasurer!

      • t-rOY (tROYnHI) says:

I think maybe he just has issues with the english language. As he said he’s from Brazil so maybe when he types 2 he is actually trying to say 12 or 20 and 1 hour is 10 or 11 hours. Can’t knock him for having issues with a foreign language right?…either that or he has the mind of a 12-year-old and just does all this to annoy us and get attention.

      • Dogmeat says:

t-rOY, this was my last attempt to sound like someone that did not speak English as his native language.

  6. Oreo (Lothorn) says:

At first I didn’t think I’d do the Alexandria challenge, but just realized that I was thinking it was Exodus. Alexandria is easy enough when you do the shortcuts like taking a Banshee into the hospital, hitting the switches for the club, and using the back door to the Vyrant tower. Even faster for the club is Ultimate RC’s jetpack run across the dancefloor. Really makes you feel like a badass when you do it, and it’s a lot of fun.

You can only do the Banshee trick when the hospital is your first or second objective, though, so keep that in mind.

    • Dogmeat says:

Ugh! I just had a horrible flashback. My one attempt on SLASO (when we had that weekly challenge) using the banshee trick, which was the third objective for me btw, resulted in: me not getting warped outside, having to fight my way through the jump pack elites and every other enemy up to the top of the hospital, and discovering that I was locked inside. I had to start the entire level over from scratch and then fight my way down and back out of the hospital the old-fashioned way (wasn’t taking any more chances). What a pain!! 😦

      • SensoryFour34 says:

I can never seem to get a Banshee. The one time I tried to do that, it took me at least half an hour to actually get the Banshee. 😦 When I did, though, the hospital was really easy.

      • Paul says:

I had the same problem – you have to exit the banshee AS SOON AS the jetpacks despawn. If you hear the next mission statement it’s too late. I was soooo frustrated about that.

    • Paul says:

I had hospital first (used banshee but died repeatedly trying to get it through the door – keeps closing on me) then the club (can’t find those damned switches so died repeatedly from hunter blasts at the generator while trying to use jetpack – must need some more skulls on) and lastly Vyrant (no death, woohoo). Finished with save and quit for the challenge – felt really cheap about it but not enough time otherwise. As an amazing first, I didn’t get shot down once by banshee or turret.

What happens if hospital is third? Do the covies spawn before the generator or what?

      • Oreo (Lothorn) says:

If it’s third, you get what happened to Dogmeat above. You don’t get warped out and you’re locked inside. Also you’ve got to get the Banshee most of the way in the door, because as soon as you get in it, the door doesn’t ‘see’ you anymore, and it will close. If the ship is in it *BOOM*!

  7. Brian says:

Anybody else get 15000 credits in a row from slot machine?

  8. 'Cos says:

This weeks challenge done. Next weeks challenge done. Just finished Halo: CEA and Halo 4, saved the Mayans from the 2012 extinction, and cured world hunger. I’m about to write a Pulitzer prize winning novel, and teleport into the future just so i can shake my own hand and meet my great-grandkids!

    Next…

    GT : Mister X

  9. Mister X says:

Sorry guys, i don’t want to troll anyonw cuz i not a troll.
You guys are funny, if a North American come here and say ” I won 180 challenge in one game “, you guys will NEVER ask him gamertag.
But i’m brazillian, and you do this with me.

    • 'Cos says:

      Wrong…and wrong!

Send us proof, and allis good in the Halo world. I really doubt that’s too much to ask, even from a ‘North American’. Nice try though.

      • Mister X says:

        You guys still funny…
        You think you are perfect…
I came here to discuss about challenges, but you guys recieve me with a lot of stones on the hand.

      • gans42 says:

There are many people here that aren’t North American (or from the UK, as I am sure you will lump those two groups together), the reason people greet you with stones in hand is because you incite it. You claim to do challenges that require 100 of something in 80, insane kills per game every game that not even our most experienced players can do without a doubt every game (I’m looking at you digi 😉 ), and other not feasible accomplishments, then fail to provide proof for your escapades. That my friend, is why we treat you so. It has nothing to do with your nationality. The people on this blog are among the nicest people I’ve ever encountered on the internet, so think twice before you just try to paint us as the bad guy when all we did was respond to your negligence and idiocy.

      • 'Cos says:

Very nice post Gans. Well explained.

    • 'Cos says:

Funny how you recognize that we would like to see your GT, yet you still don’t give it to us. How quaint! And you don’t ‘discuss’ anything. You merely come on here and make proposterous accusations. Once again, a bit o’ proof would shut me up (among others).

You’re move Master Chief! I’m moving on to people who don’t lie. Thanks…

      • Mister X says:

Man, if i say i did a thing, and anyone who ask me “How you did this thing?” i will say. Nobody ask me yet.

      • Mister X says:

And, if Idid or not, what’s the problem? I can’t do the things fast? I like challenges, and i run for do in the fastest time i can.

      • SensoryFour34 says:

The thing is, people HAVE asked how you do it. They ask for our Gamertag so they can see that you actually did it. If you don’t give one when they ask, they aren’t gonna believe it happened.

      • SamCiphus says:

Mister X, my Gamertag is SamCiphus. I’m a General Grade 1. I come onto this blog to hear how some of the best players deal with these challenges, because, let’s be honest, i’m not THAT good. To indulge you, i’ll ask HOW do you do these challenges so supposedly quickly? And, I would like your Gamertag please, to revel in your sublime skills.

    • Scruff 815 says:

Y U NO GIVE US YOUR GAMERTAG?

  10. 'Cos says:

    Seriously, though…

I did finish New Alexandria in 21 minutes earlier. Straight up…no need for the ‘banshee in the hospital’ trick.

    Wait for it…

    My proof : http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/GameStats.aspx?gameid=817590559&player=seventh dawg
