7th October – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Today’s challenges are listed below:

  1. Light Fare – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 3000 cR
  2. T-Hug It Out – Kill 6 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2400 cR
  3. A Solid Outing – Earn at least 13 kills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 3343 cR
  4. Chaddlesby’s Justice – Avenge your teammates’ deaths 7 times in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3680 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Light Fare – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 3000 cR

If you want to do this specifically (as you’ll get close to it just playing for the other challenges) then jump into something on Score Attack, maybe Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or Fiesta Attack to get it done quickly and rack up the kills.

T-Hug It Out – Kill 6 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2400 cR

Close Quarters is a kill using melee, assassination, Shotgun, Energy Sword, Hammer and Golf Club. Infection can be useful, as that’s all CQC. If only there was a game type where you only used hammers and swords though? I say Grifball, as that’s all CQC as well, and easy to get lots and lots of kills. For other mode options, Action Sack’s Halo Ball Extreme is great, and Infection is almost all CQC bar the Pistol. Maps like Sword Base, Countdown and Reflection give you the Sword, Powerhouse sometimes the Hammer and Asylum the Shotgun. I tend to melee a lot anyway so this should come in one game.

A Solid Outing – Earn at least 13 kills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 3343 cR

Best ways to get lots of kills in one game:

  • Multi Team Battle – Particularly the variants of Oddball or Crazy King as you can take out people going for the objective, but normal Slayer works well in this mode as well
  • Invasion – Depends on your skill level, but the games are long so it’s quite possible to get a lot of kills
  • Rumble Pit – Most variants help with this, bar Headhunter. Whilst the target is often only 25 you’ll find several players always getting close to the target in a game.
  • Grifball – If you get your timing right this is so easy in any Grifball game where someone grabs the bomb but doesn’t score. I’m hopeful this counts all 3 rounds as one game, so it’s even easier.
  • Team Slayer/SWAT – Again depends on your skill level, and that of your team, but it’s definitely possible to get 15 in a game without too much stress

Chaddlesby’s Justice – Avenge your teammates’ deaths 7 times in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3680 cR

This can be a difficult medal to get, as you have to kill the person who killed your team mate within a few seconds of the death. My usual advice is to team up with someone and do each other a favour on the challenge. It’s a shame there’s no assist challenge today, Revenge and assists can often go hand in hand! However if Grifball is still live then that’s usually a great way to get Revenge and Avenger medals, keep an eye on your team mates, perhaps don’t rush in at the beginning and take out the guys who survive the initial melee.

Grifball and then punch the clock for the weekly! I’m 24/50, but I have some family issues that may prevent me from finishing the weekly. 😦

  2. Sir Galahad 63 says:

I had a fun day today with Digipatd, samCiphus, and a little bit of game night 🙂
I reached the online credit limit today, right on my 49th won game, so I waited until the challenges reset to win my 50th. But unbeknownst to me, the credit limit DOES NOT reset when the challenges do. So I finished my weekly challenes and didn’t get my 30 343cR!! I feel cheated out because I worked my ass off. But it’s not really the reward it’s all the credits you got trying to at it. I probably racked up 200 000cR in total, so it’s no biggie. Still sad though. 😦

@Digipatd: remember the forerunner we versed in grifball that spawn killed us? Inb4billy or something? Well after I left you I versed him again, then left after the game finished, and then a few games later we met again! But u was on his team so it was all good 🙂

I also beat an inheritor in grifball, kills AND bomb scores.

Also, Digi, samciphus, deathsquad viii, and myself got owned on sword base by warrant officers. Digi wasnt happy 😀 and also, he gets yoinked a lot 🙂

Well that’s my day, and for the challenges, I did the first 3 in a game of grifball and a quick ONI reset, even though i didn’t get the credits, just for the fun of it.

    • Zidane says:

That’s rubbish, did something similar once, big payout for weekly got credit cap but slightly better off as did get half of the credits.

Do we still think the caps at 120?

      • Sir Galahad 63 says:

Yes, there is no way I would have gotten 240 000cR today. And also yesterday I ranked up to field Marshall, and when I stopped playing I was 14 621cR through the Field Marshall rank, and today I reached the limit, I am now 134 621 cR through my rank, so the credit cap is definitely still 120 000cR.

    • ASLANS R0AR says:

if the CR doesn’t reset when challenges reset, when do they?

      • SensoryFour34 says:

NEVER! (Sorry, just had to say it 😉 ) I wouldn’t know. I’ve never hit the limit. Ever. I just don’t ever play that much.

      • HC Sangheili says:

I think it is midnight, local to the time zone on the console. Challenges are obviously 6AM Eastern (EDT currently).

      • Dogmeat says:

The daily credit cap resets at midnight for the time zone currently set on your 360 console. It doesn’t account for daylight savings time adjustments which is why the cap resets at 1 am for me right now.

I have read about many people that want to keep earning credits in a single session and will roll their consoles’ time zone forward several hours to fool the logic in Reach into thinking midnight has hit already for their areas. They are effectively borrowing credits from the next day, and this method eventually catches up with you since you can’t roll the time zone forward indefinitely. If you ever correct the time zone, you have to wait that much longer before your new “day” begins. Bungie was okay with this practice because it merely changes the time at which you are earning the credits already entitled to you.

I have never rolled the time zone forward. I did, however, recently roll it back by 6 hours once to give myself more time to hit the cap. I could effectively play several matches at that point without advancing my lifetime credits (but still be able to build on my commendation totals). After I balanced my “total games played” with my “credits left to earn before ranking up”, I set my time zone back to what it was supposed to be.

    • SamCiphus says:

Digi was so upset about losing to those Warrant Officers! And those yoinks were funny.

  3. My Little Housing Blog says:

Light Fare I will enjoy doing today, think I will do it on Tip of the Spear, I like this level.

    • Sir Galahad 63 says:

How in the world do you cope without matchmaking? I know I wouldn’t be able to 😦 you can only do the campaign so many times…

      • My Little Housing Blog says:

I’m addicted to campaign missions, don’t really know why.

  4. HC Sangheili says:

I have a solution to the daily cR limit of 120,000; Rollover cRedits!

Only have time for a couple of games on Monday and net 10,000 in cR? No problem! Whatever cR is left over, will roll over to Tuesday’s cR cap.

Begin the day, Tuesday, with 230,000. It continues to Rollover each day of the week.

Go on vacation and leave the 360 behind for a week? NO Problem! After a week long Holiday, you will return to an 840,000 cR limit.

But Wait! That’s not all. That eighth day you returned from vacation and went for Reach? That’s right, you guessed it, add 120,000 for the daily limit and you’re looking at a whopping 960,000 cR limit!

    Imagine the possibilities!

Limited time offer, void where prohibited, while supplies last.

  5. BJ2603 says:

Hey all, I’m yet another that’s been hiding in the shadows. I’ve watched others join the fray and seems like you’re all a great bunch of people.

I only really got into halo when reach was released (i had a sheltered childhood LOL) but it’s incredibly addictive! Now I just need people to play with as flying solo is only fun for so long.

Feel free to add me (GT as above) and look forward to playing with you all! I’m from Australia (so time zones will confuse the hell outta me) and pre warning I’m not all that great. But halo has provided some fun times so hit me up.

    Cheers!

  6. Woody says:

Wow… there are a lot of credits to earn for these challenges. Looks like I will STRICTLY be on grifball during the afternoon and night, once I get off from work. If anyone wants to join for grifball, then feel free to jump in… but I’m only doing grifball for two reasons: 1) easy for me to get the challenges, 2) I’m soooo far behind for getting the weekly challenge and grifball is personally my best shot at completing it.

    • HC Sangheili says:

I’m having issues loading the Halo Social site from my work laptop. Is your GT WNWoodmore?

I think my warden is allowing a couple of extra hours tonight while she has a “girls night”, which I’m secretly hoping ends in a pillow fight 😛

      • ASLANS R0AR says:

If it’s alright, I’m going to add both of you, since I’ll be doing a Grifball marathon tonight to try and get ahead on the weekly too (and get the dailies!).

      • Woody says:

Yes sir… the gamertag is correct.

      • Woody says:

@ Aslans: Adding me is alright. I need grifball partners who I can communicate with, instead of these crazy randoms, who have their own agenda of choas and havoc.

    • ASLANS R0AR says:

Woody, I agree! randoms suck in Grifball. They rarely have the same goals I do! I’m finding that most people want what I want this week though, which is wins! I sent you a request.

      • Woody says:

Okay, cool… I will glad accept once I get home from work.

      • ASLANS R0AR says:

sounds good. I should be on after 10pm EST for a couple of hours.

      • Brian says:

Count me in too dude, this is Dragao1010 btw in case you didnt know ASIANS R0AR. I always thought that was your Gt for a while lmao

      • ASLANS R0AR says:

sounds good, Brian (Dragao) – I’ll keep an eye out for you. But you often come on right when I’m all tired and going to bed! (I’m old!!)

I wonder if I’m the oldest player on here – 41.

      • Woody says:

Well, I don’t know about anyone on here being older than 41, but my “warden’s” mother will play away her day on Super Mario Bros. 1 and Super Mario Bros. 3. I think she’s 54. LoL

      • Lathrop Polo says:

        I’m 41, but I’m told it’s a very immature 41.

      • Paul says:

45 going on 13 for me

  7. Jesse says:

Looks like a lot of us are maxing out our daily Cr limits, as I did last night.
“If They Came To Hear Me Beg” achievement, was my eventual and painful reward. 🙂

Re. this particular forum; definitely a polite, mature, and civil forum.

    Cheers.

    • Matthew Vose says:

And if it’s not, I will kick you in the head.

Or more likely be sarcastic and snooty at you, as is my wont. 😀

      • Jesse says:

I once was kicked in the head – which probably is why I’m a bad swat player!– jittery.

…it’s all good. (not the kick in the head, but your forum… 🙂 ).

      • Zidane says:

That’s a point we should be able to kick as well as punch in reach!!!!

      • I see you practice Ti Kwan Leep/Boot to the Head.

      • Tom Brunansky says:

        Oreo (Lothorn) says:
        07/10/2011 at 12:05

I see you practice Ti Kwan Leep/Boot to the Head.

totally just made my day. i haven’t seen that in at least 5 years! +5 intranets my friend!

    • Krandyt says:

I only hit cr limit twice and that was when my girlfriend and the kids went stay at her sisters for the weekend so probably never going to reach it again!
“if they came to here me beg” the words still chill me to the bone! I must gave been a good 3 hours jumping off that cliff in PoA to get that!
Liking the cr payouts today, pushing for field marshall now so it all helps.

      • Loral says:

I worked on that one for 1/2 hour and never could get it.

I read a lot of txt online, and watched YouTube vids about getting it.

I finally realized that you CANNOT keep holding the sprint button after you jump or for that matter, any buttons, which was my problem. I was so tense trying to get the achievement I was clenching my XBox controller and not releasing the buttons or triggers after jumping.

I got it on the 3rd try after that.

        Hope this advise helps someone….

    • Shane says:

Congratulations on the achievement. I splattered many a spartan getting that in the course of two hours.

      • Jesse says:

Thanks. It’s a glitchy achievement, as I had landed/stomped/pummeled 2x, but on the 3rd successful landing (after 50 odd tries!), I finally got the message of a successful achievement.
But, my Spartan is in for some serious physio after all those hard landings! 🙂

  8. John says:

What happened to the game night on here? I usually see Snickerdoodle online on Thursday night still with some people but privacy is closed so can’t join. I was hoping to get my win count up a bit last night but as I couldn’t join in I ended up fighting the Horde.

    John

    • SensoryFour34 says:

Just send a game invite. The privacy is set to Closed sometimes (don’t really know why) but we never mind having another person. (Except last night when the party was maxed out at 16)

    • crazybydefault says:

Yeah, I don’t know why the privacy gets set to closed sometimes. Just send a message saying you’d like to join!

  9. LolGTFOplz says:

Thanks to those who reached and verified the cR limit of 120k yesterday. I can now call BS on my friend (even though i already did yesterday) and with this said friend he is only 24k ahead of me in total cR! hooray for me finally catching up!

149,116 cR till Mythic, can not wait as i am sick of having this skull thing.

Challenges today are right up my alley. For a very berry good payout.

    Its Friday, fricken sweeeeeg! (@RainingMammoths)

Pizza for dinner tonight, my place, stop on over.

    Good luck to everyone 🙂

    • Woody says:

Must be nice to be that close to Mythic. I’m hoping I can get there before the month ends. I have over 900,000 credits to go before I get there and I was tired of the skull ranks dating back to the Field Marshall days. LoL

      • ASLANS R0AR says:

I don’t know why, but the skull ranks (hero/legend) have been my favorites so far! I hate Mythic and Noble and can’t wait to get to Eclipse – only 66,000 away! should get it this weekend (as long as I get this %#$#$ weekly)

      • LolGTFOplz says:

@Woody, idk why but legend is going by very fast for me, i also hated the skull ranks from the Field Marshall days as well. Field Marshall is a elite type… enough said. lol. Reason for going fast is probably the extra amounts for the dailies which i have been more actively completing lately.

@ASLANS R0AR, my buddy has a tattoo of a moon that says “hey moon” its pretty sick which is why i look forward to the moon ranks. haha.

      • John says:

I agree with you, I prefer the skulls and I don’t like the icon for mythic although I’ve just about made it to mythic and will probably call it a day at that. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to get any sort of decent game these days while Gears of War has been improving steadily.

        John

      • Loral says:

        Hey Woody,

I read your posts alot, but never had a reason to chime in.

You & I have been almost identical in ranks and pts away from promotions for months.

I used to play with these guys from Texas almost everynight. They were always 2 ranks below me, and we seemed to never meet online for awhile. Then after about a month, I see they were two ranks above me! They are all in their 20’s and 30’s and even their mother, who is a HORRIBLE player (the one that has -1 to 1 kills per multiplayer game) is now Mythic too. Odd all 5 of them are all Mythic.

I asked how they ranked up the last time we finally teamed up and they said “A lot of Firefight”. hmmmmm. maybe a LOT of Firefight.

Anyway, I know I earn all my cR’s and never got them anyway but playing as much as I can daily.

Hopefully we can team up sometime.

        Loral

  10. Mister X says:

Hello everyone! 3 – 5 games of Griffball today and you done! And, today is FRIDAY FRIDAY, GET GOTTA DOWN ON FRIDAY! So, i can play today, BUT, only Gears Of War3, because i buy it. So, goodbye for a while, halo: Reach,.

  11. Nexamsan says:

It was nice to finally meet up with some RDC people last night. Thanks guys (Lolgtfoplz, rainingmammoth, 10 dolla ___). I hope I wasn’t too bad guys….lol. I will definitely play some griffage tonight so hit me up.

    • LolGTFOplz says:

You weren’t bad at all, i hope i impressed with that beautiful perfection on reflection!!! lol, i will be on tonight if you want to join up, i’m probably going to be doing Team/Squad slayer as well as swat though, want to get some commendations moving.

  12. Lathrop Polo says:

Long time lurker here, and since some others are throwing their GT’s out, I’d like to add mine (as above). Don’t get to play a ton, or for long periods of time (kids), but I’d like to play more with people I know (sort of) so there’s a little communication and strategy. Mostly play Firefight (I’m looking at you, Woody), but happy to be fodder in other games as well.

  13. aeoliant says:

thank god the challenges are possible in a few games since today I only have time for 1-2 games of halo before I go to my parent’s house… at least I should be able to do the shotgun/sword one and the 13 kills one.

the revenge one depends on how my teammates are (good enough to get the bad guys down to no shield, bad enough to not kill them)

no way I can get 100 kills in 2 games though 😦

  14. SW1NE FLU says:

Hey I got the t-hug and the justice ones in one game of grifball run almost to the bomb and let everyone go ahead of you, and when they get hit drop the hammer on them!!

  15. T1M3C0NSUM3R says:

Probably going to play a little Grifball now to snag the challenges. I’ll try to be on late tonight (Probably around midnight EDT) for some not-so-friendly Team Slayer action.

Also, I used to tell myself I’d never be the type to quit in a 4-on-1 situation, but last night, I bailed on a game of SWAT when I was horribly outnumbered. I’m a quitter now 😦

  16. Dragao1010 AKA: Brian says:

Another question for RDC community, which do you prefer: DMR or Needle rifle? Oddly enough, i prefer both of them equally! BTW, it’s fun reading the responses and i’m loving these 10000+ Cr dailies for less than an hours work 😀

    • Woody says:

When I was a novice to the game, I preferred the needle rifle. Now, I will gladly take the DMR over the needle rifle.

    • Noobwarrior523 says:

Needle rifle>>> DMR IMO, I dislike the dmr

    • ASLANS R0AR says:

now that I’ve discovered the automatic nature of the needle rifle (took me long enough!) I love them both, but needle rifle a bit more right now.

    • Shane says:

I prefer the needle rifle for sneaky kills but use the DMR in a 1 vs 1 since there’s more of a chance I’ll survive.

      • Peggy Peggy says:

Try the needle rifle with ZB (zero bloom) it’s orgasmic……..

    • Jesse says:

I like the DMR, but REALLY like the Halo 3 DMR.
DMR is also the weapon of choice for shooting those skirmishers, or shotgun, when they’re right in your face.

    • Loral says:

I believe they both have an advantage, depending on the need. Just like saying “which is better, a shovel or a rake?”

For skirmishers, you can’t beat the smile you get when you needle rifle them and they just burst.

And who doesn’t love that feeling when you pop the cap off of a Brute followed by the always satisfying headshot?

    • crazybydefault says:

In the ZB gametypes: Needle Rifle all the way! In any other gametype, I’ll gladly take a DMR over a NR!

  17. Nexamsan says:

It seems to me that the DMR packs more power….but the pink mist explosion is great on days I can’t seem to land head shots.

  18. daayv says:

Had a blast playing Griftball with a good crew last night. Looking for more friends so I don’t have to play with randoms anymore…. now that I’ve tried playing with friends it is hard to go back.

I play mostly swat and griftball and then whatever the challenges require. I’d love any invites but my tender ears can only handle so much expletive use.

    GT Daayv

  19. Zidane says:

Have we ever had complete exact mission on heroic or harder for a weekly before?

  20. Zidane says:

Actually on that note what’s everyone’s best and worst weekly?

    • BJ2603 says:

Mine is clearly this weeks’ challenge lol I think 10/50, 7 being this morning. Haven’t had much time this week. 

    • crazybydefault says:

I actually don’t mind LASO challenges. I really love the “Complete [x] missions on Heroic in under [y] minutes” weeklies though! The “Complete 150/175 waves in Firefight Matchmaking” challenge is a grind for me though; I play on Score Attack (due to my craptacular upload speeds), so I’m only getting 5 waves per game.

This weekly is one that I’m likely to not complete. I’m only at 20!

  21. BJ2603 says:

Had a blast with Sangheili, Bagel and Kook this morning. Lucky I’m not a heavy bloke ’cause they CARRIED me lol cheers lads!

    • l0 Dolla Bagel says:

      Pretty fun, right? haha.
But Kook isn’t actually from RDC, we actually met in that match! xD
But he was pretty cool so yeah. 8)

@Zidane: My worst weekly was probably play 150 games in multiplayer matchmaking.
Didn’t even try, got like three since I was playing firefight, and I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to get it anyways.
Best one? Probably that complete any campaign mission on heroic or harder in under 9 minutes co-op. Was really easy and fun. 🙂
By the way what is your gamertag because I sent you a friend request and it said you had no gamer picture, gamerscore and had silver so maybe you can send me a friend request? 8D

By the way, any people who are lurking in here, you should all come in and join in.
It is really fun and you would have a great time. 😉
Had a great time with a guy I just met today! lol
