8th October – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Today’s challenges are listed below:

  1. Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 400 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 4000 cR
  2. Close Talking – Earn 40 kills with close quarters combat in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2600 cR
  3. Streaky Shooter – Earn 3 sprees in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  4. Un, Deux, Trois – Win 3 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2900 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 400 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 4000 cR

Best options for this specifically:

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills (plus ‘cheevos if you’ve not done the Firefight ones)
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Close Talking – Earn 40 kills with close quarters combat in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2600 cR

Close Quarters Combat is melee, beat down, assassination, Sword, Hammer, Golf Club and Shotgun. It’s actually my normal way of playing to shoot then melee so it should be pretty quick. Jump into Grifball and have some fun bludgeoning the other team to rack up these kills, or Infection with everything bar the pistol. Halo Ball Extreme can be good for this, but for every HBX with a high kill volume you might get plain old HB which has a 0 kill volume.

Streaky Shooter – Earn 3 sprees in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

This should apply to any spree, not just kills. So you can get sprees using:

  • Hammer
  • Shotgun
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Plasma Grenade sticks
  • Sword
  • Vehicles (two here – kills in vehicle where you do the killing, and kills as driver with passenger killing)
  • Spartan Laser
  • Assists
  • Some for specific variants of Juggernaut, Invasion and Infection

See the list on Halopedia for everything, especially as you can get 3 spree medals for each type. My recommendation – go for a weapon that allows you an easy spree, personally a Shotgun or Sword work for me. If you can take out 5 dudes you should get two sprees – one for 5 kills and one for the weapon (ie Grifball). Infection can be excellent for the number of medals you get per Zombie kill so if you can defend one position on your own or in a team you’ll get this easily.

Un, Deux, Trois – Win 3 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2900 cR

If you play a Team Slayer/SWAT/Grifball/Snipers/Action Sack etc you’ll get this easier, since only two teams gives you a higher chance of winning than the 6 person multi team (for instance). Make sure you read this Weekly Challenge commentary for more hints on doing it quick.

Not a bad haul for the day. I’ll probably get on on with them even though I’ve no chance of hitting the weekly, but Hero is within sight now, after a long, long trudge through Field Marshall.

  2. Daayv says:

4 Wins to go for the weekly, nice to see some daily challenges that will help finish it off.

  3. PeteTheCat1 says:

Nice set of challenges today. Apparently Super Jackpots are back this weekend but only in the TU Beta playlist. I’ve played a few games this morning and best slot machine I’ve received so far is 6K.

  4. Flacksguy says:

Glad that we’ve had those “kill xxx enemies in any game mode” challenges every day for the past four days.
I can usually get those just by playing through a mission, or a couple games of RocketFight.

  5. BJ2603 says:

Ah man, 11.5k on offer to slip through my grasp today as game time will be scarce if any at all  gen grade 2 will have to wait. Good luck to all!

  6. Mister X says:

You can do this challenges in 8-10 games of Grifball. So, i not playing halo today, guess why. Gears of War 3

  7. jay says:

I have never used Forge. Is a game like that hard to set up?

  8. zumafire says:

These look good! I’m gonna dl the firefight map.. thanks

  9. SamCiphus says:

My god, playing grifball for these challenges, i was ending games with no kills! Pathetic! Bit of lag didn’t help, but you won’t catch me blaming that.

No, ’tis my skills. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to play grifball with more skill?

    • JustHawkeye says:

There was a long discussion about grifball a few weeks back. Try searching for it.

    • HC Sangheili says:

      Practice 😉

From a kill perspective, it’s about hammer placement relative to the opponent. The Hammer creates a proximity blast that kills. Time the swing of the Hammer in front of the opponent not on them.

The Griffball Hub community can also provide tips and strategy.

    • Jesse says:

Couple of tips: hammer a little before you think you should. Another, if you know you’re going to get hit, step back, then immediately step in and hammer.

Now if anyone has SWAT tips, that would be great! 🙂

      • Matthew Vose says:

        Shoot them in the head.

Seriously, keep the reticule up at head height. Get to know the maps VERY well. Learn to no scope over a distance. Set your sensitivity down if you normally have it high. Keep on the move. Know where you’re visible to as you move across a map.

    • SamCiphus says:

      Thanks you guys!

  10. JustHawkeye says:

I finished the weekly last night, but hit the credit cap at the same time as my last win so I didn’t even get my credits. 😦

That was the first time I have ever hit my cap and it really sucked. Thanks to digipadt, princess, and shadowtitan for the wins.

    • Woody says:

Sorry for the misfortune. I was hoping to join y’all yesterday, but I couldn’t convince the “warden” to stop watching Netflix on my XBox, so that I could play. I had to wait for her to finally go to sleep.

    • Zidane says:

Done a similar thing before, it won’t be catching me out again, when I get in I need 9 for weekly and I’m doing nothing else until I get those 9 then I’ll work on dailies

  11. l0 Dolla Bagel says:

If anyone needs the weekly challenge this week, I can help.
My cousin still needs it so yeah.
We got 10 wins in about an hour and a half by doing grifball. 🙂

  12. SamCiphus says:

I think im gonna start sending friend requests left, right and centre, so if you get one from me, it’d be great to play with you guys some time!

  13. Zidane says:

Although careful and got the weekly it still managed to Shave a couple of 100 of my weekly through exceeding credit total, I’m all for the new credit amounts per challange but feel they have to lift the credit limit, thoughts anyone?

    • Brian says:

240k cap limit would definitely be reasonable, but then there would twice the amount of inheritors
