14th October – Halo Reach Daily Challenges and Commentary

So I’m sat at Heathrow watching the world go by, coffee beside me before flying off for what should be an amazing holiday. I wonder how many people here are blogging about their travels, and I wonder how many of them have a readership of thousands?

A quick hello to all the new people who have introduced themselves lately, I love that you’re all so friendly and helping each other in games. As I said there are a few thousand people who read this every day and to know that you’re all cool people is awesome. If you’ve never said hello, feel free to do so, or just bask in the pleasant glow of such a great set of people.

Today’s challenges:

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 150 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2250cR

If you want to do this really quickly then hit up the firefight invincible map in my file share (search here and you’ll find a link to it). Or play lots of grifball for your weekly, or just rock on with your favourite game type to build up the kills.

Explosive Ordnance Distribution – Earn 3 kills with ordnance weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000cR

Ordnance is weapons like the plasma launcher, grenade launcher, concussion rifle, Spartan laser… etc. So jump into Action Sack and get into a Splockets or Dinoblasters game to get this easily and quickly.

Neuroscience – Kill 10 enemies with headshots in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2400cR

Team SWAT. Simple. Unless the conversation the other day did end with someone being really precise with the Energy Sword in Grifball?

I Need Some Ammo – Complete a Campaign mission on Heroic or harder with the Famine Skull on – 2500cR

Sorry I can’t link to it today, but Nightfall speedrun for this. 5 or 6 mins and you’re done, make sure you line yourself up with the very middle of the gate when glitching through with the forklift.

  1. Zidane says:

    Have a great holiday Mathew

  2. My Little Housing Blog says:

I see two good challenges today.

I guess I really need a Gold account on my Xbox Live, it would be nice to try to play with others online.

  3. SamCiphus says:

Some nice fun challenges! Should be a laugh. Anybody wanting to play, add me, GT is same as above.

  4. Scott Abbott says:

atleast I’ll get to play multiplayer today (the 1000 kills from yesterday kept me busy)

  5. Woody says:

Thank goodness, these challenges are not time consuming. I couldn’t even join in on game night, because I was so determine to finish all of yesterday’s challenges. After I had finished killing 1,000 covenants, it was basically time for me to jump off the game to welcome home the “warden”.

I think I will use Grifball for Shootin’ and Lootin’ challenge, so that I can also complete my weekly. I think I need close to 50 more double kills and I’m done.

  6. Flacksguy says:

Already ran through Nightfall, and I’ll play a couple rounds of Rocketfight later to get Shootin’ and Lootin’.

Do other games have Daily Challenges?
What a brilliant idea…. here we have a game thats over a year old, and we are still playing it every single day!!

  7. Scruff 815 says:

If you want to cancel your holiday and let me go in your place, I won’t mind. Honestly, it’s no trouble.

I’m hoping to get all of these challenges done today since they’re so easy, along with the Weekly (I need *one* more multikill), but my internet is being useless, I can hardly get on anything and my Xbox won’t connect either. Damn you, Orange Home Broadband 😦

Thanks to all for another super game night last night; slightly lower numbers than usual but that meant we could have a bunch of 4v4 for once, and it was marvellous to see the UK contingent making up 50% of the attendees, even at 2 in the morning 😀

Also, yay for poro and our two-minigun Warthog! 😉

    • SensoryFour34 says:

What did I miss? Did you glitch ANOTHER Warthog? Please tell me poro wasn’t driving again! 😉

      • Scruff 815 says:

Not glitched; I was driving, someone else was on the gun (can’t remember who, I think it was either Braythor or Pete?) and Poro was standing on the back with a second minigun turret 😉

      • t-rOY (tROYnHI) says:

@Scruff 815 – did you screenshot that yet? I gotta show it to my friends. We’re warthog fans and we miss playing all the warthog friendly maps in H3 (we miss the H3 warthog too).

      • Scruff 815 says:

Not yet, will do over the weekend. Unless I forgot to save the video, in which case I’ll hope that poro saved it 😉

    • Braythor says:

It was meeeeeee hurray! That was fun. The whole night was fun, thanks to all that took part. I drank way too much vodka and played until about 5 in the morning.

I’m only going to be getting whatever challenges I can get through grifball today, as I need to finish the weekly or risk not getting it, and I’ve only about 50 to go now.

      Have a great holiday Matthew.

    • crazybydefault says:

Game night was pretty awesome! I actually had decent driving skills! 😀

  8. chriscray says:

Matthew, enjoy Cali, I always love going there and leaving there. I visit there a lot, (I’m a los Angeles native) for family.

Thank you for making this amateur gamer into a field marshal!

Being friday, I’ll get all challenges but the 10 headshots in a game. I average 5 kills per swat game ( yes, I’m not the most skilled player), but maybe the other team will have some AFK’s!

    • Scruff 815 says:

If you don’t like SWAT for headshots, try (regular) Invasion – there’s no kill limit and there are 2 potentially 12-minute rounds. Also with everyone going for the objective, you can hang back and pick enemies off as their shields drop.

This technique is called The Porottaja Method.

      • chriscray says:

Thanks for the Intel, I’ll try that. I’ve only played invasion maybe a dozen times, usually when a party leader takes me there. I remember too on a BTB I got a lot between the sniper rifle and the DMR, but when my goal is headshots, I bungle them up!

    • crazybydefault says:

I usually opt for BTB, Invasion, or Premium for headshots. It just depends on how I feel 😛

I’m not the greatest SWAT player either, but I have my moments!

  9. LolGTFOplz says:

So i didn’t even get to touch yesterday’s challenges, witch really upsets me because they were so so good.

But on the upside i got to meet Steven Seagal at the Dreamcatcher Gala dinner i went to as well as shake hands with/talk with Emanuel Lewis (Webster). I had a great time but running on 4 hours of sleep today is not good. Here is a link if anyone is interested in learning a little bit more about the event … http://www.thespec.com/whatson/artsentertainment/article/605680–steven-seagal-among-stars-attending-dreamcatcher-gala

Challenges will get done today, even if my ol’ lady wants to have more “us” time. i got to get a jump start on this Noble rank.

  10. Mikast says:

Don’t tell my boss but I have an excel sheet at work that I regularly update that keeps track of my commendations and how many points to the next rank!

    Anyone else do this?

    And Tx shout out!

    Add me- GT xMikast

    • LolGTFOplz says:

that’s a good idea. i should work something like that, how does your commendation tracking work?

      • Mikast says:

I just update the numbers. No fancy formulas or anything like that.

    • Hruntio says:

Are you aware that you can view all your commendation progress (among other stats) on bungie.net? I don’t know if you have some other purpose or method with the spreadsheet, but if it’s simply to keep track of your commendations outside the game, bungie.net works great.

      • Mikast says:

I have the spread sheet at work. I can’t access bungie there. But I use the bungie app to update my numbers. And if anyone walks by, it looks like I’m working! LoL

Disclosure: I don’t do this all the time. I get my work done. But hey, it’s FRIDAY! 🙂

      • LolGTFOplz says:

It is friday you are right!!! Hoorahhh!!!!!! pizza night!!!!! haha. i have 3 orders to process and 1 truck to input and i’m going to work on some sort of excel spread sheet for commendation and exp so i can track it either every other day or something like that, it would be awesome to see how much progress i make.. i stare at spreadsheets all day, and have become very excel savy so to speek, i’m getting excited just thinking of it!

      • Hruntio says:

Ah, that makes sense then. Just seems like a lot of hassle to keep it updated. Sounds like what we really need, then, is an inconspicuous site where one can download a spreadsheet file (CSV, say) of commendation (and maybe other?) progress.

Pretty sure I could make that fairly trivially with a simple scraper (or maybe Bungie’s stat API, but I’ve never looked into that), but have nowhere to host it…

      • xmikast says:

It is a nice mental break from work 🙂

      • LolGTFOplz says:

Hruntio we should have a talk about this plan 🙂

    • Dogmeat says:

Guilty. Mine is cryptically abbreviated (commendation names and current levels for each) in a simple Notepad file. It has a way to represent current counts while displaying the next level amounts and the onyx amounts. It also has remaining credits to be gained from onyx-ing each commendation and subtotals of those remaining amounts for each category of Reach (campaign, firefight, and matchmaking). I update it every Monday and compare it with last week to see whether the pace I set for a particular commendation advancement is on target. I also email it to myself (hence, the reason for being cryptic) to keep weekly snapshots of my progress. I wait until a break to update it, though.

    • Dragao1010 AKA: Brian says:

Instead of Excel, i just use my ipod’s “Notes” to write down the amount of credits earned before snooze time. 10,000cr a day minimum and i’ve been doing that since September and with the increase of payouts in the dailies, sh*ts much easier 😉

    • t-rOY (tROYnHI) says:

I used to do stuff like that for Achievement tracking in Halo 3, & Halo Wars, but alas I’m no longer at a job where I can look up that stuff online. If I was still at that former job I probably would have it up and running right now. 🙂

However, if you have an iPhone with a generous data plan, or an iPod touch with access to a Wi-Fi connection at work, you can use the Reach Service Record App to keep track without having to adjust numbers everyday.

    • crazybydefault says:

I usually tally up my credits earned per day, since the app on my phone doesn’t do it. I heavily check my progress on Bungie, so I don’t find a need to write stuff down 😛

  11. xXMaster SoulXx says:

That reminds me …speaking of movie stars! My cousin Chris Folz did a photo shoot and commercial with Megan Fox http://blog.sight-management.com/chris-folz-megan-fox-for-armani-code/

Currently working on another shoot for the Armani-Code for women

  12. AngelicReaver says:

I’ve been following your blog since around April, always reading up on the best/easiest/most fun ways to get the challenges every day. It’s a great and easy way to see what’s up for the day, see how other people do it via the comments and know that some of these are actually possible. You are the biggest reason I’ve gotten so far (about 1 Firefight game away from General).
Great job on the blog so far and I hope you have fun on your holiday to Cali.

On the twist side, anyone want to add me, my gt is the same as above.

    • crazybydefault says:

      Welcome to RDC! 😀

I’ll add you once I get the chance! I’m a bit busy at the moment, but expect a FR soon!

  13. aeoliant says:

i’m so far behind on the weekly… add SAUSAGEFATTENER (me) for some grif-tastic action tonight (EST) I’ll be on as long as my ‘warden’ (haha woody) doesn’t reachblock.

  14. l0 Dolla Bagel says:

    Yay for new members!
These challenges will be easy today. 🙂
Only got simple spree ’cause I jumped into a crashsite game for 30 seconds.
And a little bit of game night.

    • Dragao1010 AKA: Brian says:

Crashsite is ridiculous! I can never beat it but the closest i got to was halfway way through wave 4 and that was on the swordbase looking map. DAMN YOU CRASHSITE!!

      • Scruff 815 says:

It’s easy when you know how. Just wait by the generator, then lock it (hold X when near it) as soon as the enemies get near. It won’t take any damage while you run around killing, then by the time the next wave comes along you can just lock it again.

      • crazybydefault says:

It’s a game mode that either goes really well, or really bad for me. 😛 It’s a great way to top off FF kills though!

One time I managed to get through all five waves, even though I had given up on locking the generator halfway through the first wave. I was just running around and killing things! 😀

    • SamCiphus says:

I did the same thing! …in a game of 2X SA. I got home from work, and had to download the update, which wasn’t downloading properly for some reason. (did someone mention that the other day?) Anyway, it seemed to cause my internet to have a breakdown. I finally got it to work, 2 minutes before the challenges changed, so i jumped into FF for an easy 2000cR!

  15. xmikast says:

Just created my own wordpress account. My name should match my GT now.

  16. RainingMammoths says:

    Have a good holiday, mate!

  17. Braythor says:

This is how I finished the weekly off, as well as most of the first challenge:

    http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=826120136&player=Braythor

Hahaha, I win. Now to finish dealing with this hangover…

    • Dogmeat says:

An excellent match from the look of your medals! 🙂

My 200th multikill for the week was an elite slayer multi team match on pinnacle. Two of the red team players were sitting up in the tower with needle rifles picking off weakened enemies whose attention was turned on each other. I snuck up on the unsuspecting duo and double assassinated them. Nice way to wrap up the weekly, eh? 🙂

    • SamCiphus says:

      Impressive game! 106 kills!

  18. SensoryFour34 says:

Just found out there is now a list of all the Anniversary achievements!
    http://halo.xbox.com/en-us/news/headline/halo-combat-evolved-anniversary-achievements/285109
Some of those are gonna be almost impossible to get!

    • Dogmeat says:

I agree the achievements may be challenging, but all of them seem within grasp IMHO with a little practice. Some super sleuths undoubtedly will find and publish the whereabouts of all the terminals and hidden skulls. Interestingly, these achievements are all campaign related. 🙂

  19. Zidane says:

    Anyone up for some campaign?

  20. jay says:

I have never played Action Sack. We’ll see how this goes….

  21. Akthar says:

    You are legend!!! Many thanks!!!
