16th October – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

First full day in San Jose yesterday, lots of chilling out, watching Netflix, grazing on food, then out for a wander in a mall and dining at Cheesecake Factory. It’s supposed to be a sign of hard economic times when there’s no line at TCF, but what does it mean when the line is 20 mins but BJ’s is 55?

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Light Fare – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 3000 cR
  2. Better, Closer, Warmer – Earn at least 7 kills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2500 cR
  3. Survivor – Earn 5 Sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  4. You Want This, Don’t You? – Earn 12 kills with precision weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 3000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Light Fare – Kill 100 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 3000 cR

If you want to do this specifically (as you’ll get close to it just playing for the other challenges) then jump into something on Score Attack, maybe Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or Fiesta Attack to get it done quickly and rack up the kills.

Better, Closer, Warmer – Earn at least 7 kills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2500 cR

Should be easy in most formats, go with your best game type, Slayer, Rumble Pit, Grifball, Team SWAT… even low kill volume games should see 7 per person achievable.

Survivor – Earn 5 Sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

You get 120 kills in Gruntpoc so it’s an easy way to do it. If you can get kills using weapons (ie 5 grenade sticks, a shotgun, sniper rifle etc) then you get nearer the total – use Score Attack to get a range of weapons. Beachhead is quite good as you can use the vehicles to get more sprees – and now on Firefight Arcade you’ve got a good chance of using a variety of weapons, lots of killing sprees and grenades and the like. I like hitting up Gruntpoc then getting the 5 killing sprees.

You Want This, Don’t You? – Earn 12 kills with precision weapons in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 3000 cR

This is fairly easy in Team SWAT. Precision weapons are the DMR, Sniper Rifle, Needle Rifle and Focus Rifle. So in SWAT you can easily kit up the DMR and just play the game. If you get this you’ll get the second challenge so a couple of boosts for your credit return.

For “You Want This, Don’t You”, I’m going to go with BTB and hope for a medium-to-large map with lots of verticals and cover (Abridged > Mt. Lam Lam > Boneyard > Hemorrhage or Renegade in this regard).

Yesterday in a Big Team Slayer game on Mt. Lam Lam I went 24 and 2 with a Rampage, a bunch of sniper and DMR headshots, and a half-map stick on a ‘Hog for a double kill. This was against a pretty good team and my team won only by a few kills.

If you use Active Camo and move back and forth between the second floor of your base and the rocks where your sniper spawns, you are incredibly difficult to see or kill. In Slayer games, in my experience, few people come up past midfield except in a vehicle because that would put them in DMR range and the power weapons spawn at midfield anyway. The enemy sniper will almost always move to their second floor and mostly will not have Camo because a Sprint user (or evade in Objective gametypes) will rush the Sniper. Playing on the sniper rocks and moving up for a headshot and back for cover also gives you a great opportunity to hijack a passing Ghost because you are above and mostly unseen right when the Ghost has to make a tight turn. Non-jetpackers generally must go to either the left or right of the rocks, leaving them open for a shot in the back (crouch to stay off radar and you may even be able to pick up an Assassination), and of course jetpackers are basically flying neon targets.

    • That’s usually my tactic on Mt. Lam Lam. Unfortunately, I tend to play BTB by myself and never quite get to the sniper in the amount of time it takes someone with Sprint or Evade to do so. In that case, I usually try to stay out of sight of the enemy sniper and pick people off with my DMR!

One game of FF Arcade and one game of SWAT aaaaand I’m done. Marvellous.

Also, lol @ a 55 minute queue for a BJ.

  3. Caulpris says:

You are kind of complicating Survivor. All you need to do is go to Gruntpoc and play through it normally. If you can get 50 kills without getting killed you got your 5 sprees right there. I suggest Courtyard or Corvette, because you can Headshot the Grunts before they start shooting at you.

  4. SensoryFour34 says:

I really hope there isn’t a big grind for the Weekly tomorrow. After the wins and the multi-kills, I’ve gotten really tired of Grifball.

  5. FOREMILES says:

“You Want This, Don’t You” can go crawl in a hole and die. I always end up with 10-11 kills when the game ends.

The others are pretty easy though. Happy hunting.

  6. Brian says:

    Eagerly awaiting tommorows weekly, giggidy!

  7. Zidane says:

Anyone got any ideas for tomorrow’s weekly?

    • Zidane says:

I’m not into Laso’s but would be happy with complete 10 cp on heroic or harder or 10000 headshots inn mm and ff

    • Sir Galahad 63 says:

A kill x amount of enemies in FF would be nice. Or kill x amount of enemies with the plasma pistol in campaign?

      • thegoatboy says:

I am going with a FF based weekly… “Complete X number of waves/rounds”

Zidane, I wouldn’t mind a “Kil X number of enemies in MM with headshots”.

What would be an acceptable number? I say X=1,000 would be doable.

  8. Pete Skinner says:

A stroke in 3 weeks ago. I with a full right side is frozen. If the full effect is still clear in the 2 hour. The has carted to the Hospital and he stayed with 3 weeks. Week right leg and arm and half is that the slight. After the speech (APHASIA) and right eye is trouble. But if playing the Halo :Reach FireFight an as diffuclting. I as was better to that FF.

Matthew has spend time the read the bogs. Had was need the have time has.

  9. Zidane says:

I pretty much called it, pay out is good!

  10. Peggy Peggy says:

Whats the new weekly Zidane? Can’t access B.net or Halo Waypoint at work!!!

    • Scruff 815 says:

I’m not Zidane, but hey! 😉

It’s “kill 700 enemies in Multiplayer Matchmaking this week” for 30,343 cR.

      • Peggy Peggy says:

        Ty Scruff 🙂

      • SensoryFour34 says:

        Again, all knowing Scruff. 😉
Also, I’m pretty sure I’m not gonna get this one done. I’m sick of grinding for the Weekly.

  11. chriscray says:

700 in MPMM…. I wish it would be a higher number in FFMM. As someone said earlier, I’m getting tired of grifball! 😦

  12. Zidane says:

I’m not touching griftball, Ill swat this one 🙂

  13. Peggy Peggy says:

    What are today’s daily’s?
    Thanks

    Peggy Peggy
