17th October – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Monday means it’s the start of my holiday proper (after 2 days of relaxing), today I’ll be sampling In ‘n’ Out, maybe catching a movie, then tonight I get to see the San Jose Sharks for the first time. Pretty exciting huh?

Today’s challenges are:

  1. More Than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  2. Blast Radius – Kill 75 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with grenades – 2500 cR
  3. Credits for Completion – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR
  4. Points Pyramid – Score 60,000 points on any Campaign mission – 1750 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

More Than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Multi Team Battle or Grifball are the best ways to get lots and lots of kills, you tend to get more than any other modes. If you play Crazy King or Oddball you can get even more as some people who would shoot you go for the objective, and you can take them out. Seasoned Grifball players will also be able to get this in only a game or two, and if you can make an area in an Infection game defensible as a human you can rack up kills quickly.

Blast Radius – Kill 75 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with grenades – 2500 cR

Several strategies for you here – Gruntpocalypse on somewhere Corvette and throw grenades at the Grunt spawn rooms (particularly those to the left and right of the ramps opposite your spawn room), then when you get grenades from the Grunts you kill use them when they come into the pinch point corridors. Or play Firefight on Courtyard, run to the left out of the spawn room and from the terrace you can usually get up to 5 or 6 dudes with grenades when they’re dropped off. Or play Nadefight where you get lots of grenades when you spawn. Or play 2X Score Attack and use grenades to bomb the spawn/dropship points when a load of guys are dropped off.

Credits for Completion – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR

This is just completion, not wins, so easy to do. Grifball and score with the bomb really quickly, once you’ve got your kills if you’re going for the first challenge and the weekly.

Points Pyramid – Score 60,000 points on any Campaign mission – 1750 cR

Long Night of Solace, Rally Point Alpha. You’ll be going into the space combat, with as many skulls on as you’re comfortable with. Last time I used Black Eye, Tough Luck, Catch, Cloud, Famine and Thunderstom. That gives you a 6.80 multiplier and should take about 10 mins to rack up your points – just keep playing until you hit the 60k target then quit the mission. Note that the Phantoms don’t give you points for destroying, so go after Banshees and Seraphs first. I played it on Normal, but the multiplier goes up depending on difficulty too. Just keep playing through and taking out ships and you’ll eventually get there. The alternative is again put lots of skulls on and play through the end of Pillar Of Autumn. When you get to the MAC at the end just sit there taking out Phantoms for stacks and stacks of points.

Does the Grenade Launcher count towards grenade kills do you know?

  2. LolGTFOplz says:

Have fun today Matthew and be safe!

  3. Scruff 815 says:

All done, with the kind assistance of Digipatd and TheOneInYellow 😀

Nadefight is definitely the way forwards for the FF challenge!

    • LolGTFOplz says:

whats Nadefight anyway, i’ve always been afraid to pick it.

      • Scruff 815 says:

You spawn with 4 frags, 4 plasmas, a grenade launcher and a concussion rifle.

      • Dogmeat says:

I believe your loadout is the grenade launcher and the concussion rifle as well as 4 frag and 4 plasma grenades. There aren’t any weapon pickups, though, I believe. So the only way to get more grenades is to die and respawn. As I am working on the Perfectionist commendation, I prefer to not die and play Arcadefight or Doubles instead where you can pick up plasma grenades dropped by the dead covies (or frags from dead teammates 😉 ).

      • Last week I got into a game of 2x SA to get the 5 sprees, and somehow managed not to die while doing it. That’s the first time I’ve gotten that lucky in a 2x SA run. I’ve managed some Gruntpoc and Skirmageddon runs without dying, but the variety of the Score Attacks give me fits. 2x SA gave me more than 125 kills, so that’s a good one for the kill 125 enemies in FF.

Loaded out with the Shotgun and put that Armor Lock to good use when the Brutes started spamming grenades.

    • TheOneInYellow says:

Yep, today was quite fun. Thank you all again! 🙂

    • Prox says:

      What playlist is Nadefight in?

      • Scruff 815 says:

Firefight Arcade. Along with every other Firefight variant. What with it being Firefight and all 😕

      • Prox says:

Thanks. I usually just play Score Attack and don’t remember seeing this variant. You saved me a few frustrated rounds of voting in Doubles.

  4. chriscray says:

Matthew, in n out burgers, I am way jealous now! I roll with the 4 by 4 ( their secret menu). I haven’t had one in 2 years now!

  5. Daayv says:

    Mmmmmnnnn In N Out Burgers
Be sure to try the “Animal Style” “Protein Style” burger off the secret menu.
It comes wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun and the mustard and pickles are grilled with the burger. Add as many patties as you like.

  6. t-rOY (tROYnHI) says:

Have fun today Matthew. I’ve been grabbing In-N-Out Burgers on almost every trip I’ve taken to Las Vegas for the past 5 years. Their burgers are some of the best I’ve eaten in my life! I’ve also taken in a couple Sharks games in San Jose and in Los Angeles. Should be a fun experience, since their arena can get pretty loud, and today’s game is against one of their top division rivals-the Ducks. Just don’t expect a whole lot of goal scoring. The last game was won 1-0 by the Ducks.

Not much I can add to todays tips, but in FF the drop ship turret makes for an easy sticky nade kill on small maps, so be sure to tag those whenever you get a chance. Hold out is one of my favorite maps for grenade kills, since it’s a small map, the covie spawns are predictable, and they group together as they climb the stairs or ramps to get to the upper levels or the crow’s nest area.

  7. John says:

I finally managed 75 grenade kills in a single game of 2x Score Attack, I knew it was possible but never seemed to quite make it.

  8. Nexamsan says:

I will be playing swat tonight around 11PM GMT…or around 6PM EST. Of anyone wants to join hit me up.

  9. Brady Cook says:

I saw a party of 4 people who all had 4 daily challenges and the weekly challenge completed only 2 hours after the weekly had be posted. I was in a saw match btw, but what i’m asking is it even possible for someone to get 700 kills in 2 hours? I figured they were all hackers than i played the match and we dominated them 50 to 26 with the highest person on their team having 13 kills on uncaged. So is it possible?

  10. Cheborneck says:

@Brady. Try playing grifball. Easy to get 50 kills sometimes each game. Do the math. 14 games, 15 min each. 3.5 hours give or take. That’s alot of spawn killin!

  11. Cheborneck says:

    @Matt U is right!
