19th October – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

That thing I wasn’t sure I’d get into yesterday? I got in. Not sure if everyone will appreciate how exciting it is, but The Big Bang Theory is my favourite show certainly currently on TV if not in the annals of TV history, and I got to see a taping. It was amazing seeing how the show’s put together, how they rewrite elements as they go and how the characters act in between shots (Jim Parsons seems to barely break character).

Today… driving back up to San Jose via San Dimas (watch out for shots of my foot at the Circle K) and the PCH.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. More than a Handful – Kill 77 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3500 cR
  2. That Pink Mist – Kill 200 enemies with a Supercombine from the Needler or Needle Rifle in Firefight Matchmaking – 3000 cR
  3. Clip It. Share It. – Make a clip from your Local Files and upload it to your File Share – 2500 cR
  4. Oops! All Kills – Earn 15 Multikills in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

More than a Handful – Kill 77 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3500 cR

Multi Team Battle or Grifball are the best ways to get lots and lots of kills, you tend to get more than any other modes. If you play Crazy King or Oddball you can get even more as some people who would shoot you go for the objective, and you can take them out. Seasoned Grifball players will also be able to get this in only a game or two, and if you can make an area in an Infection game defensible as a human you can rack up kills quickly. But looking at the other challenges you can get most of this done just with them.

That Pink Mist – Kill 200 enemies with a Supercombine from the Needler or Needle Rifle in Firefight Matchmaking – 3000 cR

So there are lots of options in the new Score Attack modes. FRG Attack gives you a Needler with unlimited ammo, but that only really works on the Brutes and Elites (and the Skirmishers if you can catch them in the open). In general I still recommend any game where you can pick up a Needle Rifle from a Jackal and put 3 rounds into an unshielded enemy to get the Supercombine. 2x Score Attack or Fiesta Attack would be good because you can get loads of Elites at the end. FFA works well once you get the Mythic skull on, since enemies die less quickly and the Supercombine is more effective.

Clip It. Share It. – Make a clip from your Local Files and upload it to your File Share – 2500 cR

One of the Reach achievements is to recommend a video (note – a clip, not a picture) to someone, this challenge is pretty similar. Press Start, go to Files and Local Store. I had one in there which was the one I’d recommended, so I picked ‘upload to File Share’ from the file info section and voila. If you need to make a clip you can frankly do a whole game, but have a play with theatre mode to capture a good kill or interesting moment in a game then upload that. There’s been some shenanigans with the names and descriptions not being allowed, so you might have some frustration in playing around to get it uploaded, but it’s worth a couple of minutes trying.

Oops! All Kills – Earn 15 Multikills in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Another challenge to direct you towards the current Weekly challenges. Grifball is again one of your top options here, one game should get it pretty quickly. These will stack, so an Overkill (4 people) counts as 3 multikills. The objective variants are helpful because you can aim for people who are going for the objective (ie in the hill in Crazy King) where a natural firefight usually opens up.

  2. Flacksguy says:

    Ha Ha Ha,
Good for you Matthew! Big Bang Theory is a great show.

  3. Chris says:

Cool! That is a great show…and I am in Palo Alto! We’re practically neighbors, err, fellow ODST marines. 🙂

Challenges today are iffy, my lady finally told her parents yesterday about the baby, and it went better than expected, but she is still upset about it, so we may spend some time with each other at the mall or something. 20 weeks down, 20 weeks to go!

Had some great griffball with @Woody and @RainingMammoths and my ol’ lady. We ended up meeting up with this guy, on the other team, that helped us get kills for like 5 games in a row, it was like trick or treating every time he gave us candy, and we said thank you.

Now for something interesting. So i was playing griffball yesterday, before i partied up with Woody, and this person sends me a game request, sends me a friend request, and messages me saying “RDC!!!” (mind you this is the 3rd or 4th time i’ve gotten this, i feel famous. lol) anyway, i add the guy, me being the nice fellow i am. but this is where things get wierd. after i added him, every message i’ve ever gotten on Xbox live i kept recieving, messages from Dflamer about the tourny, voice messages from my friend boros, etc etc. Every message kept popping up as if it was a new message, it was the wierdest thing ever. i went to the guys page and deleted him and the messages stopped showing up as new messages. Anyone ever have something happen like this to them? i really am not sure why it did that.

Wellllllll anyway, good luck on challenges today everyone!!!

    • stalker@ says:

      i willl find youuuu

    • Paul says:

Was he AFK or just a really crap player? Those seem to be the first games of Grifball he’s ever played… and possibly last given the hammering he received 😆

Why do I never meet someone like that? Any chance you could share a copy of the game where he got spattered x100?! Maybe for Clip it Share it!

      • LolGTFOplz says:

He was neither a crappy player or a afk, just the coolest guy i’ve meet on reach, he would jump in the air and let us assassinate him, he would give us the ball, teabag so we could kill him. rainingmammoths was like “is this your second account you dont care about?” and the guy was like “this is my first account i dont care about, if this was modern warfare then hell no i wouldn’t be acting like this” he went 1-102 for us multiple times. 😛

    • Woody says:

I enjoyed myself with you all last night. That Coky Clepto guy was too hilarious. I had never seen anything like that. Thanks to you all and him, my weekly challenge total is much higher than I had planned. Originally, I was just going to get 100 kills per day, give or take 5 kills. Now, I’m at 459…. 259 kills ahead of schedule. LOL

By the way, I’ve never experienced anything like what you just had.

  5. LolGTFOplz says:

@Matthew, you are very lucky to see a taping of that show, AWESOME!

  6. aeoliant says:

nice, 3 ez challenges tonight! no way am I gonna do pink mist

  7. André says:

Pink mist took a few games, but it got me to Mythic rank so it’s all good.

    • LolGTFOplz says:

      what was your strategy?

      • André says:

Tried gruntpoc first only got 30 or so because of all the mayhem, strategy wait til they throw grenade, dodge and shoot needler at em, pick up more ammo. Doubles FF went better 77 in one game. 3 rounds makes the game long and you can start with needler as secondary.

      • Woody says:

Gruntpoc is definitely not a great game for pink mist. It’s much easier getting it with. Brutes and Elites.

      • thegoatboy says:

I will be skipping Pink Mist, I would rather spend the time playing Arkham City.

      • Eskobar (André) says:

I agree with the brutes, but elites are tricky since they keep jumping around and full shields take a clip or 2 to take one out, unless you weaken them first which is best. Grunts are easy kills id say for pink mist, specially in FF doubles. but mist kills don’t count in the early waves which sucks.

  8. Chris says:

Hey…I was playing TEAM SWAT yesterday, and some guy was popping people with unbelievable accuracy.

The guy never needed a second shot per kill…because it was a one-shot headshot kills from across the map. In just a couple of minutes (seriously…like two minutes), he already had 25 kills.

    How does he do it?

Is he one of those people who can hook up a keyboard and mouse to the Xbox 360? I haven’t seen that type of accuracy since Halo PC!

    • Scruff 815 says:

Either an aimbot, or he’s really, really good. People often assume that if people are really good they’re using an aimbot, but 9 times out of 10 they’re just really good. Got a link to the game?

      • Chris says:

        No, I don’t have a link. 😦

However, how would someone have an “aimbot” for Halo: Reach on the Xbox 360?

I just assumed that he was using one of those expensive devices that allows you to hook up a keyboard and mouse. It is much easier to get quick, accurate headshots with a keyboard and mouse. However, I didn’t even think that there are aimbots for the Xbox 360.

The game didn’t last four minutes because the guy racked up so many kills so quickly. I think that he ended with 44 kills and his other team accounted for the other six…in four minutes.

      • Chris says:

His name had the word “MAD” in it though.

      • Mikast says:

        Was he an inheritor?

      • LolGTFOplz says:

He sounds like a mad hatter!

    • Dogmeat says:

What is your GT? We can probably find it in your game history online.

    • crazybydefault says:

I’ve split-screened against somebody who had their keyboard and mouse hooked up. It was scary how accurate he was with a sniper o.O

      • Shane says:

I miss the point-and-frag days. I used ta be a contenda! I’m getting the new Deus Ex on PC though so more of that good stuff soon.

Ah, Deus Ex. Throwing mad asian women from high-rise apartments to £$@! off the raging killbots in the plaza below. Simpler days.

  9. MJOLNIR Tester says:

That Pink Mist – Kill 200 enemies with a Supercombine from the Needler or Needle Rifle in Firefight Matchmaking – 3000 cR

If you have a second controller, do Doubles Attack -> Arcade Fight on Corvette. You have infinite lives and the Jetpack loadout gives you a FRG and needler with infinite ammo. There are more and larger enemies that are suitable for a supercombine than with Score Attack.

    • MJOLNIR Tester says:

The list is actually called Firefight Doubles. I just played Arcade Fight on Corvette and got 82 supercombine kills in one game. During one round the Mythic skull is on so it doubles the health of enemies. Even Grunts will give you a supercombine kill when the Mythic skull is on.

  10. Dragao1010 AKA Brian says:

LolgtfoplZ, remember yesterday you lost a player in grifball and you were getting angray at me for holding the bomb? Lol that was amusing!

    • LolGTFOplz says:

No i do not, i play with so many people and with such a terrible memory i dont remember a thing, i like to yell at people on xbox, it gets my real life anger out. lol.

  11. crazybydefault says:

GAH! I’m jealous. I love that show!

As for the challenges, I’m skipping That Pink Mist. They always seem to die before they blow up, so I figure it isn’t worth it.

  12. Scruff 815 says:

Hey you! Yes, you! Do you like playing Halo: Reach? Do you like playing with other people? What a coincidence; so do I! Why don’t you consider joining me for some Impromptu RDC / Halo Social Game Night fun, tonight, Thursday 20th October? Since you mention it, I don’t care that you’re a lurker who I’ve never spoken to before, this is not a members-only club or anything!

WHAT: Multiplayer Matchmaking, in whatever playlist we have enough people for. Premium (DLC) playlist preferred, especially as both map packs are half price right now, but it’s not a problem if people don’t have them.
WHEN: Thursday 20th October, 8.15pm UK time (that’s 3.15pm Eastern) onwards.
HOW: Add my Gamertag (Scruff 815) or join anyone else who’s in attendance.
    WHY: Because Halo is fun.

Shall repost in the Thursday challenge thread later 😀
