24th October – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Apologies for the late blogs posts everyone, I was actually working today, visiting one of our CA offices to look at the system they’re building and see how it would work for us.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR
  2. The Little Guys – Kill 125 Grunts in Campaign today on Normal or harder – 2000 cR
  3. Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4343 cR
  4. Killing Frenzy – Earn a Killing Frenzy in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 4000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR

If you’re going for just this challenge you’ve got a few choices for doing this really easily and quickly…

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

The Little Guys – Kill 125 Grunts in Campaign today on Normal or harder – 2000 cR

Winter Contingency, Exodus or The Package are excellent for Grunts.  The opening of ONI Sword Base has one useful trick – go straight to the Target Designator, turn around and blast some Grunts, then reset to checkpoint. It’s a quick way of doing it, although I prefer playing through levels to up various commendations. Ryan suggested something similar on The Package, throwing a grenade just before the checkpoint so that every time you reset it goes off and takes out a few Grunts. ONI: Sword Base can also be good by just taking out the few who are in front of you at the start then restarting the mission, but if you go for the TD you get lots of big commendations too.

Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4343 cR

Team Slayer and SWAT will be excellent for this, as there are only two teams so a much better chance of winning than in multi team. If you are doing Multi Team, try objective based types and go for the objective itself, most teams don’t. I mean Crazy King, Oddball, Rocket Race. Grifball can be good if you’re ready to grab the bomb and score you can win really quickly, but with the weekly being what it is, stick to SWAT for those precision kills.

Killing Frenzy – Earn a Killing Frenzy in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 4000 cR

The Frenzy is 10 kills without dying. Not necessarily in a short space of time. This will come down a lot to personal preference. Immediately I think Grifball, Infection, Juggernaut in Rumble Pit or Team SWAT for me. Grifball might be best although it’s so easy to be killed or betrayed you’re likely to get annoyed, however if you can get your timing in and get to the spawn points to take the opposition out as they spawn – annoying I know as the person spawning but admit it – you would if you were in that position! BTB can be really good if you can get in a tank type vehicle and just bombard the opponents.

One thing I recommend for the Killing Frenzy if it isn’t too late is to just kill people with the bomb in Grifball. This has gotten me 3 or 4 Frenzies (where there wasn’t a challenge for it, of course), and it works pretty well if you just back off after each kill and get a health pack if you take too much damage. It also helps if you have a good team with you, too. 🙂

I never liked the killing frenzy challenge, until I started playing more grifball. With the bomb it’s very easy 2 pick of unsuspecting opponents. I went 50 and 15 in one game last week (yes, we all hate those players, but the weekly needed attending to)

Killing frenzy is the only daily challenge that i truly let out my rage when i’m at 9 kills and a teammate just betrays me in grifball! Thankfully the second time i killed the tenth guy and he killed me at the same time but i noticed the credits appear on the left. *relief*

Pfft. The best way to get your Frenzy is clearly Hockey.

Btw, thanks for the games yesterday, people 😀

    • SensoryFour34 says:

Maybe. But that involves actually PLAYING that terrible game! I wish they had kept the assassinations in it. 😦

      • Scruff 815 says:

It wasn’t my choice… It was the top option, so the other team all voted for it and got it. I *never* choose to play Hockey. But since I was stuck in it, I thought I’d at least try and get my Frenzy done 😉

Got me an Unfrigginbelieveable in it cause I spawn camped a guy who was away. aha

  3. Jim says:

for blastin and relaxin i found that in my invincible game-type for firefight i couldn’t get this one, and i have no idea why. any game mode should mean any game mode, right?

    • Kimttar says:

Try playing on heroic or harder

    • Scruff 815 says:

Yeah, but also be aware that these are yesterday’s challenges you’re commenting on. Today’s ones specify Firefight Matchmaking. If you knew that already then it must be a difficulty thing…
