7th November – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Hello Monday my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. More than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  2. Nature vs Nurture – Kill 15 Moa in Winter Contingency on Normal or harder – 4000 cR
  3. Leadership Element – Kill 45 enemy leaders in the Campaign today – 2200 cR
  4. Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4343 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

More than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Multi Team Battle or Grifball are the best ways to get lots and lots of kills, you tend to get more than any other modes. If you play Crazy King or Oddball you can get even more as some people who would shoot you go for the objective, and you can take them out. If you can make an area in an Infection game defensible as a human you can rack up kills quickly.

Nature vs Nurture – Kill 15 Moa in Winter Contingency on Normal or harder – 4000 cR

The Moa are scattered through the first two sections of Winter Contingency, one melee and they drop like a bag of stones. Last time we had this challenge we found you can even do it in Nightfall, go to Rally Point Alpha, run through the valley and you come across a group of four with a checkpoint before them. On Winter Contingency, two run around the corner when starting the mission so you can always just restart that, but I think you may have to sit through the Falcon flight to do so unless you can trigger a checkpoint. There are some more when you first fight Elites, and then more as you drive the truck around the place. You can run them over but it’s harder, I suggest jumping out and shooting or punching them. I reckon there are 15 in the level but a quick two runs would easily get this. I bet somewhere there’s a useful checkpoint just before a group of them too.

Leadership Element – Kill 45 enemy leaders in the Campaign today – 2200 cR

Nightfall, the first dude with his back to you, either snipe him, beat him down or assassinate him, then restart the checkpoint again and again to get it quick. Other options are the Package or Pillar of Autumn levels (which have loads of leaders), the Target Designator on ONI: Sword Base since you get one or two in that beam and can reset the checkpoint just as the bombs fall.

Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4343 cR

Team Slayer and SWAT will be excellent for this, as there are only two teams so a much better chance of winning than in multi team. If you are doing Multi Team, try objective based types and go for the objective itself, most teams don’t. I mean Crazy King, Oddball, Rocket Race. Grifball can be good if you’re ready to grab the bomb and score you can win really quickly, but with the weekly being what it is, stick to SWAT for those precision kills.

Not sure what to say about Nature vs Nurture, but it brought some good points.

    • Neverhoodian says:

Don’t you know? Moa burgers are delicious.

Good set of dailies to start us out. Nice to see some campaign related challenges that don’t involve LASO or doing the Nightfall exploit.

    • Zealous Wilder says:

in Winter Contingency if you wait until the clip is finished right in the beginning and then you run to the left toward the little house that they show you in the clip you’ll get a save checkpoint. Then as you run toward the Emu you get another Check Point right before they run out. Revert to save and bam your done in 2 minutes.

12543 Credits today. Thats awesome. Hit noble over the weekend, and getting to this eclipse with challenges with such great payouts as well as higher cR for game completion wont be as bad as i thought 🙂

  3. SensoryFour34 says:

The Challenges are really good today. My one problem is that Monday and I aren’t friends, and we’re almost never on good speaking terms. 😉

  4. I was able to do Nature vs Nurture in 1:55. Rally Point Alpha, drive round the first corner and there’s 4 Moa near the Skirmishers. There’s a checkpoint halfway along the track. Go through checkpoint, kill the 4 Moa, restart to last save, rinse n’ repeat.

    • Dragao1010 AKA: Brian says:

I shall keep that in mind for MOA! Though the real challenge today is 5 wins -_- If i get one more player on my team who has less kills than me than that means my team is boned sadface

  5. Great challenges to start the weekly with! Hopefully I’ll have nothing to do when I get back from school so I can get a jump on them! 😀

  6. J.D@wg says:

Mmhmm. I smell Moa burgers sizzling! Good payout. Shouldn’t be to hard to get all in an hour.

  7. aeoliant says:

leadership element should be worth way more than killing 15 moa or getting 5 wins… it has a terrible time/cR ratio… probably not gonna do it. at least the other 3 are easy

    • Scruff 815 says:

No it shouldn’t. If you trigger the checkpoint correctly on either Nightfall or ONI, you can get Leadership Element done in less than two minutes.

      • aeoliant says:

if I understand how it works correctly, does that mean I’ll have to revert on Nightfall 45 times?

      • Scruff 815 says:

Yeah, but if the checkpoint is set so you’re literally aiming right at the Elite’s head, you can easily revert 2 or 3 times per second.

  8. RobbyP says:

can i just get 7,000 credits per challenge since today is my bday please ? =D and the weekly can be 77,777??? =D

    • Scruff 815 says:

      Happy birthday!

And no. Because we’re not in charge of the payouts here 😉

  9. Scruff 815 says:

Nice easy challenges to start the week off with, and I heartily recommend going into a party for the wins. Action Sack is good for quick games and some nice variety. In a party of 3 (and therefore playing with a fourth random each time, apart from one game with Gans), we won 4 out of 5 games. Ta, Braythor and Yellow. Unemployed Brits doing what we do best… 😉

    • gans42 says:

So…I get a mention, but I don’t get a thanks? I’m hurt Scruff. I did a great job of distracting them in HaloBall Xtreme by throwing my body at their host asses and giving myself a negative 9 spread. Stupid host advantage.

  10. Scruff 815 says:

Honestly, this is the last Monday you’ll see this…

THIS THURSDAY, THE 10TH OF NOVEMBER, IS CUSTOMS NIGHT!

Join me (Scruff 815) and gans42 on Thursday November 10th from 8pm UK time onwards (which will be 3pm Eastern; see http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html for other places) for an evening of Custom Games. We’ll be playing the best maps and game variants currently out there, along with some home-baked creations from various RDC & Halo Social community members. If you’ve got a map or a game variant to share with the world, this is the time to do it. But please try and have it support 16 people, just in case.

Simply add one or both of us to your friends list, fire up Reach on the 10th, and hit X to join us. With no customs matchmaking search tools, we are entirely limited to the people who show up. No people = no game night. Try and have a mic if possible, don’t go AFK, and don’t rage-quit in the middle of a game when you’re doing badly / you don’t like the game mode and we’ll all get along just fine 😀

Expect to see this post repeated in the comments for the remainder of this week until Matthew bans me or I manage to hit 88mph in my car and accidentally travel back in time to before Halo was even invented, whichever happens first.

    PS: 17th November = CE:A Game Night 😀

    • gans42 says:

Guys some RL stuff came up that I won’t be on as much Thursday night, but don’t worry, my presence will still be known. I will just start later (probably around 6-7PM EST), and take an hour break at around 9 or 10PM EST. Scruff should (hopefully) be on until then, so no worries.

      • Scruff 815 says:

        Yes I will be 🙂

Also, lol @ serious WordPress. “You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.”

    • Just found out that the Nordic Ski season starts on the 14th for me, so I might not make it to the CE:A game night 😦

Curse me and my stupid addiction to skiing…

      • Scruff 815 says:

What if the weather’s bad and you get snowed off?

        Ahahaha. Me so funny.

  11. Starfishhunter9 says:

DId anyone elses campaign progress reset? Mine just did again! No nightfall for me…

  12. Zidane says:

Might be a stupid question but is halo 4 definately happening?

    • Scruff 815 says:

You know there’s a thing called Google, yes? Of course Halo 4 is happening. There’s trailers. There was a presentation and stuff. Yes, it’s happening 😉

      • Zidane says:

You being cheeky SCruff, I’ve seen bits but needed confirmation from
        The knowledge of Scruff 😉

  13. RainingMammoths says:

Those Moa never did anything to anyone. 😮

  14. Zach Worman says:

Hey folks, long time lurker here.

For Leadership Element, it might be helpful to turn on Thunderstorm. Matthew says you get one or two on ONI with the TD strike, but I was getting 4-5 per with Thunderstorm on.

Btw, great blog Matthew, thanks to you and everybody posting, y’all save me a lot of time and headaches.

  15. prnzhrn says:

I NEVER get the checkpoint at the beginning of Nightfall. Anyone know why?

    • Scruff 815 says:

Neither do I. But what you can do is run straight off the cliff with the Elite (run off the left-hand side, facing forwards), run towards the tree, turn around and aim at the Elite’s head. Slowly start backing up and a checkpoint will trigger. Then you can just hold down your right trigger whilst repeatedly reverting 😀

  16. SW1NE FLU says:

What’s MOA?? I never do this challenge bc I idk what they are, but I just killed two of those ostriches at the beginning and it counted for 2 out 15

  17. SW1NE FLU says:

Anybody wanna play?? I’ll be playing till 10 r 11 central time
