15th November – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

My copy of Anniversary hasn’t yet arrived. I’m sure it’ll be here today. I’m not nervous about it not coming.

*taps foot*

Come on Royal Mail, deliver to me now!

It can’t be as bad as my copy of Reach that came a week late. Not that I’m bitter about that.

Anyway, today’s daily challenges are:

  1. Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 150 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2250 cR
  2. Hyper Lethal Vector – Kill 200 enemies with headshots in Firefight Matchmaking – 3000 cR
  3. Deathless Pillar – Complete The Pillar of Autumn on Legendary without dying – 5000 cR
  4. Up Close and Personal – Kill 8 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1600 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Shootin’ and Lootin’ – Kill 150 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2250 cR

Interesting… do MPMM kills via Anniversary’s disc count towards this? I expect so, but Campaign kills shouldn’t. You’re better off doing the other challenges first then mopping this up if you’ve not done it yet. Best options for this specifically:

  • Forge – make a game with players spawning in one spot and camp it
  • Firefight – Download my Firefight Invincible game type on my File Share, lots of Elites, lots of medals, lots of kills (plus ‘cheevos if you’ve not done the Firefight ones)
  • ONI: Sword Base – Use the Target Designator trick (run past everyone at the beginning, grab it, turn around, fire, wait for the killing to stop and restart the checkpoint)
  • Package – There are points where you can get a checkpoint just before a number of Grunts appear in the final battle, so you can gun them down and restart

Hyper Lethal Vector – Kill 200 enemies with headshots in Firefight Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Gruntpocalypse and 2x Score Attack are great ways of doing this, you should be looking to get a lot of headshots in a game, especially if it’s on a simple map where you can line up the Grunts, like Corvette or Courtyard. If you get to a high number rather than doing a whole game again jump in Crashsite or Generator Defense and only defend until you have your total then give up the goal.

Deathless Pillar – Complete The Pillar of Autumn on Legendary without dying – 5000 cR

Key to this challenge is the point that if you die, quickly hit pause, then select Save and Quit, then reload your last checkpoint in the menu, and you’ll be reset back, having never died. The best advice I can give is to have a read of Tyrant’s Mythic guide to PoA, which will serve you well here for getting through the mission, and is much much easier than trying to figure it out yourself. Previously we have been able to play through as you would with dying included, then at the very last checkpoint quit the game, go back in and finish it and you’re good.

Up Close and Personal – Kill 8 enemies with close quarters combat in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 1600 cR

Close Quarters Combat is essentially melee, assassination, sword, hammer or shotgun kills. Grifball is 100% melee and easy to get lots of kills when you get your timing right. Infection can be really good, and it does appear that sword kills count double for the sword and the pummel.

A car + local GAME shop = more reliable than Royal Mail. O hai there, my copy of Halo CE:A.

Guess how many of these challenges I’m doing? That’s right, none of them! Who cares about Reach ranks when there’s the glorious CE campaign to play through?! 🙂

And yes, CE:A MM kills will count towards the challenges. Because all CE:A’s multiplayer is is DLC for Reach, accessed by a little scratch-card thingo.

    • BJ2603 says:

      CE > cR
      I like the thought process.

      • Scruff 815 says:

Also I only recently ranked up… and I tend to care about credits more when I’m close to ranking up 😉

Plus I’ll get loads of CE:A MM done on Thursday’s game night, so whatever 🙂

      It’s Peanut Butter Halo time!!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m waiting for the mailman to deliver my copy before work. Later on, it’ll just be me, my copy of CEA, a tub of crunchy peanut butter, and a Barry White CD. Don’t come knockin’.

  2. My Little Housing Blog says:

I am sick, but I will try to find energy for one challenge today. Can’t be without Halo for too long.

  3. Lord Kinbote says:

Pre-ordered my Halo:CE A from Amazon and it shipped last night. Set to be delivered today. BUT, as UPS seems to have me on the middle to end of their route, I’ll probably not get it until the afternoon…when I’m sleeping and won’t get to play until tomorrow. I work nights and sleep during the day. But, I may just wait until Friday when I’ll REALLY have some time to commit to it without having to worry about pesky stuff like getting enough sleep before going to work and such.

Told my friend a month or so ago when I pre-ordered it that I can’t believe how psyched I am to get this game. A game that, basically, I’ve already played hundreds of times. I thought I was being strange and goofy (I still haven’t crossed that possibility out), but coming here makes me feel a bit more, well I won’t say “normal”, like I’m not alone in my crazy corner.

I also just noticed yesterday the bonus features for pre-ordering it and saw the description of the Grunt Funeral Skull and said, “NICE!”

    • Scruff 815 says:

Grunt Funeral is INSANE. It’s so very, very dangerous. 😀 But also very useful in terms of taking out Elites 😉

      • ChrisStrawhat says:

Okay sorry guys I feel like such a maroon right now. But how do you turn the grunt funeral skull on? And get the Masta Chiefa avatar? Got so sucked up in CE:A campaign it literally took me three tries over 2 hours to figure out how to get split-screen co-op working and get the multiplayer maps to work for Reach 😀

Funeral skull help really appreciated <3<3

Loving this site, loving halo. What's more to say?
Merry Christmas to all who's got the game already – to you others; hold on, it'll soon be in a mailbox near you =)

      • Scruff 815 says:

Unlock it with the code in the box. Go to Extras. Click it to activate it 😀

      • ChrisStrawhat says:

thx Scruff, got it working now. didn’t know you could enter all sorts of codes into that Redeeming business. Such an xbox noob, lol. Learning though.

That skull is sick. Very lethal lol

    • crazybydefault says:

Yeah, that’s where I pre-ordered as well. They also sent me an e-mail saying they shipped it yesterday.

Unfortunately, I ordered with Standard shipping (which I’m now regretting doing 😛 ), but it says it’s in Kent, WA, which is less than 300 miles away. I tend to get things either on that day or the following day when it’s within that range!

  4. TheOneInYellow says:

I got mine this morning in a nice, fancy slipcase too (embossed Master Chief and H:CEA logo with shiny silver lettering and shiny subdued orange/gold Mk.V Helmet Visor! The slipcase also has printed info about the bonus Master Chief Avatar and “Grunt Funeral Skull”) 😀

Going to do the Reach challenges ASAP, then do a custom challenge created by a friend (also on Reach), the CEA all the way ^_^

Sorry Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, you came yesterday, but CEA wins my time 😦
    I’ll play with you later…ish…. :((

  5. TheOneInYellow says:

    @ Lord Kinbote
Look at my post, but yeah, got mine from Amazon and through UPS, which was AWESOME and more reliable than Royal Mail!
And you will get the bonus pre-order stuff alongside a nice slipcase, over the standard edition, too boot!

Also, we are ALL CRAZY on this blog. I know I am; I have missed only ONE weekly challenge since release day 😥

  6. Matthew Vose says:

    Anniversary get!

    • LolGTFOplz says:

😮 the 16 looks alot worse on the cover than an M. never seen that before haha. thanks matthew

      • Dragao1010 AKA: Brian says:

hopefully the game comes in that extra casing like FO:New vegas did cause it loooooks SWEEET

      • SensoryFour34 says:

It’s a lot more obvious too. The 16 is orange, but the M is black and white, so it blends in more. I’ve never seen that either, though.

    • G says:

Damnit! My copy better be waiting for me when I get home from work!!!

  7. Jetpack333 says:

Went to Midnight release @ Microsoft store. Crazy pizza n soda/monster party.. Lost 1st round of tourny 😦

  8. Marshy 40 says:

I’m going to do the Deathless Pillar challenge, then some CE:A. Had fun doing the package yesterday. I’d forgotten how fun some of this campaign stuff can be, even if the payout per time spent is low.

  9. MomOnGames says:

Hopefully we’ll be able to fire up the old 360 tonight when kids are in bed.

Probably won’t do much with today’s challenges though….I’d like to play some CAMPAIGN!

    • Shane says:

Me and a buddy of mine are really looking forward to playing “Warning: Hitchhikers May Be Escaping Convicts” in co-op. The memories!

  10. J.D@wg says:

That moment when you regret being a cheapie and clicking “free shipping (7-14 business days)”…. This is going to be the worst 2 weeks ever…

    • Shane says:

Amazon had free shipping for the pre-order 😦
You could always rent a copy in the meantime.

  11. Flacksguy says:

Heading straight to GameStop after work today, where I have it on pre-order.
I’ll pick up the Strategy Guide also,
…I know that I don’t need it, and I already have the old one, but I’m a sucker for Strategy Guides.

  12. Lord Kinbote says:

Gonna have to skip the Deathless challenge (for time purposes). I SHOULD be goin’ to sleep but I’m gonna do the top 2 and then go to bed. A deathless campaign level is just too long for a weekday for me.

I have Amazon Prime so all my stuff gets the free 2 day shipping. I put 3 of my frien…uh, family members on the account so they get that shipping also and this year one of them offered to pay for the year’s membership. If you get a lot of stuff from Amazon, the Prime membership is WELL worth it, especially if you wanna split it with friends or family.

  13. Paul says:

    Waahhhhh. 😥 It’s not *sniff* arrived. 😥 Waaaaahhhhh. 😥

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…………………..

Pray I dont need to copy/paste this tomorrow.

    • crazybydefault says:

      I share your pain 😦

      • Lord Kinbote says:

Ditto. The delivery date on UPS has changed to tomorrow, the 16th. Grrrrrr.

      • crazybydefault says:

Well, my copy is officially in the same city as me. Bad news is, it’s at the arrival facility and I can’t run over and grab it!

On the upside: I GET TO PLAY CE:A TOMORROW! *dies from excitement*

  14. I dont know anything about it but does anyone know if the multiplayer maps that comes with CEA is available as DLC on Marketplace? I will probably wind up getting CEA sometime but right now money is very tight. 😦

  15. Pete Skinner says:

I am buying for the Xbox Live and loading the Halo: Reach Anniversary Map Pack. Found is what is all you need the play??

    It was a $15 CDN.

  16. SensoryFour34 says:

I’m guessing a lot of people won’t be doing many (if any at all) of the Challenges today. I’d like to play Anniversary, but I made the mistake of trying to download the Map Pack first. After about half an hour to 45 minutes later, it’s not even at 90%. So far, it’s been a pretty big mistake. I guess I had to do it sometime, though.

  17. Loral Johnson says:

I wasn’t sure if I was going to rush in to buy the Anniversary Edition, and thought I would just purchase the maps until the price dropped or a friend wanted to sell theirs cheap…

After doing the math, if you just buy the maps, that is nearly 38% of the cost of the retail game (maps included).

    Something to consider…….
