18th November – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

I’ve seen a lot of chat in the comments about Custom Challenges. There’s some information available on how to do them through the web, 360 or mobile, I’ll try and write a quick guide this weekend about how to set them up. For those of you chasing Inheritor they’ll be good for speeding that up!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR
  2. Came From Behind – Perform 2 Assassinations in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2200 cR
  3. Above the Neckline – Kill 7 enemies with headshots in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2500 cR
  4. Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4343 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR

If you do a score attack game in something like 2x Score Attack or Gruntpocalypse, then the challenges below you’ll be very close to the 180 total. Other options are another score attack game, maybe Generator Defense or Crashsite for the final few, or a couple more games in multiplayer.

Came From Behind – Perform 2 Assassinations in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2200 cR

Not too difficult, easy methods are just to hide around a corner in Sword Base or somewhere and jump guys as they go past. If you’re lucky you’ll find someone who’s AFK and hunt them down during the match.  It’s cheap but knowing spawn points can help you in regular multiplayer games – the rocks in Asylum for instance, or favourite camping positions like the lofts in Cage and Pinnacle or the stairs in Reflection. HaloBall Extreme is great for assassinations since you have a big map you’re running around like crazy people on! Another good tactic is Sniper and DMR game types, since people can’t see their motion trackers when zoomed in you might be able to sneak up on them. Don’t forget that reloading and sprinting make noise so people know you’re there.

Above the Neckline – Kill 7 enemies with headshots in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2500 cR

I thought this was a new challenge, but it’s just that we haven’t had it since my birthday in February! Pretty much any game mode will be good for this when the DMR or Pistol are available, but by far the best is Team SWAT. Make sure you hold your reticule high for headshots, and work on a quick trigger finger!

Five-time Champ – Win 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 4343 cR

Team Slayer and SWAT will be excellent for this, as there are only two teams so a much better chance of winning than in multi team. If you are doing Multi Team, try objective based types and go for the objective itself, most teams don’t. I mean Crazy King, Oddball, Rocket Race. Grifball can be good if you’re ready to grab the bomb and score you can win really quickly, but with the weekly being what it is, stick to SWAT for those precision kills.

i personally think i can get this all in SWAT but im just going to do blastin and relaxin in a custom game with some friends. Thanks though i read this everyday im shootin for brigader next.

In the spirit of time conservation I have created a few challenges to complement today’s Dailies, all set to 12 hours:

    100 kills in FF – 861 cR
    5 wins in MM – 2152 cR
    50 headshots in MM – 3586 cR
    50 kills in MM – 1434 cR
    75 medals in MM – 3227 cR

11,260 bonus cR on top of the 11,386 cR for completing today’s Dailies, plus game completion of at least 15,000 cR. Not bad for an hour or two’s gameplay 😉

    • BJ2603 says:

I’m probably overstating the obvious mate, but a shorter completion time means a better payout in custom challenge.

Hence, if you plan on putting in a one or two hour session to complete dailies, create customs just before you get on, set timer to the minimum 3 hours and maximize that payout 🙂

      • Scruff 815 says:

Nice. I will do in future, but today (and other days) I tend to play for a little bit, go and do something else, return for a little bit, etc. But if I know I’m going to be on for a good stretch then I will indeed do the 3 hour thing 😀

  3. Robotperson says:

This might sound cheap, but for those who are time limited the best strategy is probably to set your custom challenges to be the same as the actual dailies.

I did this yesterday just to test it out and benefitted by maybe 5k.

Overall it’s a nice idea, and the creds are welcome, but the options seem a bit limited to me. Except for the enemy selector, which I think is too granular when you’re specifying enemy type – anyone fancy 100 Jackal specialist headshots?

  4. Scruff 815 says:

From two days worth of Custom challenges alone, I have earned 38,804 cR. Custom challenges win. Even if they are just a cheap way of boosting your rank 😉

    • ChrisStrawhat says:

I actually don’t think they are cheap at all. Sure you can make them ridiculously easy but then again so are most dailies, only that you can make more of your customs.
People argue they are a cheap way to earn cR, but there is still a cap at 120k a day, which isn’t really that hard if you really want to farm credits. Turn in for a few games of FF Arcade with 3 randoms for 6k(!) a game if you’re not even getting kills. If you however spam the Rocket launcher the entire game I easily get 7k a game with 1700 cR in Commendations alone, which I already maxed out anyway!
So a lot of people hit the caps, especially at weekends as myself, so these challenges are just a GREAT alternative and actually gets me to play even more MM to up my skills, and get the same payout as I would from half-idling in FF Arcade like half the people playing :E

Without the daily cap there would be incredible exploiting and farming of Custom Challenges, when people start to figure out the easiest/most cR effective combinations to put in. But 120k a day is still 120k a day. I think this was a genius move by 343! Keep up the good work!

  5. J.D@wg says:

Payouts aren’t the best today :/ oh well, I’ll set some customs and change that.

Also, Do any of you have App Trailers? It’s an app where you can earn giftcards just by watching trailers/videos. If you get it, use the code jdawgg and you get extra points.

  6. ChrisStrawhat says:

I’d like to at least see the credits go up when I start the game, even if the custom’s aren’t listed there. I don’t know, probably just being paranoid, but it feels I don’t get my custom credits =P Gotta pay closer attention i guess

    • Marshy 40 says:

Chris, I had my Reach menu open, and just after a custom challenge expired, my cR total went up with the correct amount, so it is definitely working.

    • Scruff 815 says:

They definitely count; I saw my credit total go up by almost 30,000 thanks to the challenges I set yesterday. The thing to remember is that the credits aren’t added when you complete the challenge, but when the time limit on the challenge runs out, even if you’ve turned in the challenge.

      • ChrisStrawhat says:

        Thank you for your responses.
Yes when I returned from work today I saw my cR had gotten up 24k since I last played.

And you can actually see the cR go up if you’re watching it at the expiration time? Good to know!
I can stop being paranoid now. Thx =P

  7. J.D@wg says:

Have any of you figured out the easiest/most payout custom challenges?

    • Dragao1010 AKA: Brian says:

well if you try 500 campaign kills in 3 hours, you get 2198 credits. But obviously if your aware of the target locater exploit on Oni: Swordbase you can set the hours to 1h which would raise higher i’d assume but by how much i don’t know. Still easy credits

    • Scruff 815 says:

A high amount of Matchmaking medals in a short time limit seems to be the best way to go. Then play lots of SWAT and/or Grifball to get the medals.

Don’t go overboard though; you don’t get any credits if you don’t complete the challenge!

      • ChrisStrawhat says:

Actually I think the minimum time limit is 3h for any custom challenge.

In my short time of experimenting I’ve found that medals and headshots in MM pays out the best.
My favourite so far: All in 3 hours, and all in multiplayer matchmaking:
        200 medals
        150 kills
        100 headshots
        5 wins
They almost complete at the same time too on normal playlists, sick payout.

  8. Zidane says:

    100 head shots in 3 hours 10998, I’m loving this 🙂

    • Dragao1010 AKA: Brian says:

      for what game mode?

      • Zidane says:

Mm, 500 medals in mm in 6 hours is a bit ambitious but 25k I’ll give it a go 🙂

      • Scruff 815 says:

Play SWAT and/or Grifball for medals. Every kill should give you at least one medal (either headshot or pummel), plus revenge medals, avenger, headcase, etc, etc, etc…

      • Zidane says:

Thanks Scruff, swat is my main game so I’ll stick with that, not good a gb 😦

      • Scruff 815 says:

You’re not missing out on anything.. Grifball sucks 😉

      • ChrisStrawhat says:

Aye, Grifball sucks – and I suck at it. :E lol

      • Paul says:

re medals, I get the following rough average k/m (kill/medal) ratios:
        MM (swat, grifball) 1:2
        MM (infection) 1:1
        FM (gruntpoc) 1:1
        FM (2x SA, sniper) 2:1

this seems to be fairly standard for others

      • SensoryFour34 says:

Correction. The PEOPLE in Grifball suck. I used to play Grifball all the time, but now there are just too many betrayers, people who score immediately when there’s no challenge for winning/completing games, etc.

      • Paul says:

Did my 5 wins in 5 straight games of grifball – all were really enjoyable (no betrayals, only one DNF, loads of kills) – have now created Custom Challenge for 300 medals in 3hrs – 19779 cR for 150 kills which should be <8 games. Go Grifball!! SWAT sucks!

  9. ChrisStrawhat says:

Soo… almost 9 o’clock in Sweden. Which means I guess prime time for gaming in the entire world is starting now, should be about some time in the afternoon in the States if I’m correct? Seems the Custom Challenge page is slow again, at the moment I can’t create anything. Hope 343/xbox fixes these server overloads or w/e from happening every night :E
I really love it when it works.

  10. Zidane says:

    Do you only get custom
Credit when I.e 3 hours is up?

    • ChrisStrawhat says:

Yes. When the time you chose runs out, you will be getting the credits, as long as it’s completed by then. So you can turn in a completed challenge, create a new one in the list, and still get the payout when that first (turned in) challenge expires.

  11. ChrisStrawhat says:

Lol I thought about getting 1000 kills on Oni Sword base with the *cough* Target Locator. But I accidently put it to 1000 headshots. Doh! Won’t be doing that any time soon. *Forfeiting*

  12. Chris says:

Anyone have a Custom Challenge that would maximize payout from Fightfight Invincible?

    • Dogmeat says:

I tried creating a custom firefight challenge for 500 hunters in 3 hours on a whim last night. The challenge only would have awarded 2000 cr if I had completed and turned it in. 😦

  13. ITS ZAPHOX says:

For custom challenges, I have been doing a 1000 campaign-kill challenge over and over. I am doing it with the air strike laser, so it goes extremely fast. I love this new feature! Went from the beginning of Colonel Grd1 to almost Grd3 in like a very short amount of time.

    • Sean says:

If you’re doing the 1000 campaign kill, do 1000 campaign medal at the same time 0 it;s also worth 5000 cR. You’ll complete the medals before reaching 1000 kills. I’m not sure what other campaign challenge(s) may stack on top of these.

      • Zidane says:

Messed up 100 head shots in 3 hours in mm because I played a ff game, 10k missed by 2 mins 😦 will learn lesson, you guys done and unusual custom challenges?

  14. thegoatboy says:

I am always do a medals Custom from now on:
    75 Medals in MM, 3 hours Limit = 4945cR

I completed it in one hour…

    • thegoatboy says:

      I “will” always do a medal Custom….

      • ITS ZAPHOX says:

Just do the ONI air strike one, 5k in like 5 minutes

      • Scruff 815 says:

The problem is that doing the air strike over and over isn’t any fun and is JUST credit farming. Matchmaking custom challenges give a bonus to something you’re having fun doing. Plus about an hour in Campaign will give you around 300 cR in game completion. 6 games in MM, if you’re a fairly high rank, will give you around 12,000 cR in game completion alone.
