22nd November – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

The problem with having blogged so late last night is I have nothing to update you on in the video game world. I think I’ve probably got 7 hours or so of Halo Anniversary left before I’ve got all the achievements (well done to Zaphox for getting 1000/1000), although inevitably one of them will take me a massive number of attempts so that number will end up at 35 or something!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR
  2. Be Their Huckleberry – Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with the pistol – 2500 cR
  3. Fourth Horseman – Earn 4 multikills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  4. The Magic Number – Complete 7 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Blastin’ and Relaxin’ – Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach – 2343 cR

If you do a score attack game in something like 2x Score Attack or Gruntpocalypse, then the challenges below you’ll be very close to the 180 total. Other options are another score attack game, maybe Generator Defense or Crashsite for the final few, or a couple more games in multiplayer.

Be Their Huckleberry – Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with the pistol – 2500 cR

Now this is one we’ve not seen in a while. Try and get a Gruntpocalypse game in so you can stick to just the pistol, take out the little methane breathers as quick as possible then back in the menu to get it done. Some maps are definitely better than others, Corvette and Courtyard are small and easy to see across to take them out.

Fourth Horseman – Earn 4 multikills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

There are so many options for multikills – Team SWAT and Grifball are probably the best in my opinion. But any mode you’re good at will work – Squad Slayer because people cluster in it. Juggernaut (if you can get it) is really good for it. Don’t forget that multikills stack, so 4 kills in a few seconds counts as the double, triple and over kill, and you’re almost there!

The Magic Number – Complete 7 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR

If you want quick game types, Infection and Grifball can be very very quick, so run through them a couple of times and you’re good.

Well that was weird. I came here and the site was in mobile mode. Even though I’ve not done anything with my browser. Thanks ‘view full site’ button at the bottom of the page!

I’m gonna *try* and get in a couple of hours of Reach multiplayer today. There’s a good chance real life will come in and mess that plan up, but I need to at least make some kind of dent in the Weekly 😕

And no thanks Firefight, you can wait until next week.

    my life is complete

There is also a really easy way to get Speed Reader (Library, Legendary, Dominos Style) if anyone is interested.

Good Luck!! (with that guide, you are almost guaranteed to get Speed Reader, as long as you keep moving.

Either I really suck at grenade jumping or something suspicious is going on here…

      • ITS ZAPHOX says:

Scruff, that second grenade jump is possibly the hardest thing in this entire game. I guess legendary is pretty hard too, but that grenade jump…

Is it possible that sometimes you dont get the cR for a challenge? I just finished ‘The magic number’ and didnt get any. Neither visibly when finishing the game nor invisible after that. I know because if I would have got them i would have got a new rank.

    • Scruff 815 says:

You DID get them. Any challenge that completes outside of a game (i.e. win/complete [x] games, upload a file to your file share, link up with bungie.net) rewards you the credits in the background. Next time a challenge like this comes up, write down the amount of credits you have just before the last game you need to complete the challenge, then write down the amount of credits you have afterwards. You’ll find that the credits are there, every single time. What happened to you happens to everyone, all the time; there are no exceptions to this rule.

What’s your Gamertag btw? If you’re less than 3000 cR away from your next rank then a) we’ll be able to tell by your b.net profile and b) one more game will rank you up, easily.

      • Scruff 815 says:

Further to this, the only exception for when you won’t get the credits is if you have already hit the credit cap for the day (which is 120,000 per day). But then, you do get a massive message on-screen telling you that you’ve hit it, so that would be kind of obvious if you’d done that…

      • ChrisStrawhat says:

ACTUALLY, funny thing I noticed the other day. If you hit the daily cap by using Custom Challenges, that massive message will NOT pop up, and after every game the “game completion, slot machine bla bla” still count up, but you won’t get them. When I however continued playing till I got 120k “legit” that message popped up, and after every game I finished it said “Credits earned: 0 cR” (or w/e).
Sooo… the cap is still there. You won’t get any more than 120k a day. But the game somehow glitches a bit if you get those custom credits. It’s like Reach’s cR counter acknowledges the maximum amount is reached, but the game knows it hasn’t given you the 120k yet, so it tries to keep going until you’ve “gotten” it all, then it stops.

        Just a sidenote lol

      • Stefan says:

Though I didnt write it down I’m pretty sure they were the same before and after… but maybe I’m just very wrong. Thanks for the help anyway, I’ll do that next time. Also I’ve definitely not reached the max level and I also played a game afterwards to check If something happens. Gamertag is KnirpsHundeart.

  4. BJ2603 says:

It’s so much harder to motivate myself for dailies and weeklies now that custom challenge cR can net me so much for just playing how I like to play.

Unfortunately, custom challenges are also taking away from Halo:CEA and AC Revelations (which hasn’t even been opened yet). The addiction to competitive multiplayer is too great.

All this talk of achievements makes me wanna work on gamerscore though, I got ‘cross mappin’ in a game of SWAT last night, there is no better soundbyte than achievement unlocked soundbyte lol

  5. Dave says:

do health damage on pillar. You can take shield hits, you just can’t lose any of the bottom health ticks. Just take your time going around corridors and zoom with that pistol and rock the bandana skull!
