4th December – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Time for another Christmas song of the day, and right now I’m listening to Twisted Sister’s version of ‘Deck the Halls’. You probably don’t realise this but I went to a Church of England growing up, and from about age 7 through 16 I was always in the school choir. I am therefore very wel versed in Christmas hymns and carols. Deck the Halls is one of the best, as with the last couple we’ve seen about the joy of the Christmas season, getting everything ready and making it a happy time. Twisted Sister’s version (and you’ll be hearing more from the Twisted Christmas album in the next 3 weeks) is great because it’s authentic heavy metal with fast guitar riffs, and a great bridge covering ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ that sounds like something from Metallica’s instrumental tracks.

And yes I do snigger at ‘Troll the ancient yuletide carol.’ How language changes huh?? 🙂

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR
  2. The Little Guys – Kill 200 Grunts in Campaign today on Normal or harder – 2500 cR
  3. Survivor – Earn 7 Sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  4. Light Fuse, Run Away – Kill 4 enemies with grenades in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 500 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR

You could do this in one game of Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or some of the other variants. 2X is good because you’re likely to get slightly more than 120 so it takes account of TKs from the Covvies.

The Little Guys – Kill 200 Grunts in Campaign today on Normal or harder – 2500 cR

Winter Contingency, Exodus or The Package are excellent for Grunts.  The opening of ONI Sword Base has one useful trick – go straight to the Target Designator, turn around and blast some Grunts, then reset to checkpoint. It’s a quick way of doing it, although I prefer playing through levels to up various commendations. Ryan suggested something similar on The Package, throwing a grenade just before the checkpoint so that every time you reset it goes off and takes out a few Grunts. ONI: Sword Base can also be good by just taking out the few who are in front of you at the start then restarting the mission, but if you go for the TD you get lots of big commendations too.

Survivor – Earn 7 Sprees in a Firefight Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

You get 120 kills in Gruntpoc so it’s an easy way to do it. If you can get kills using weapons (ie 5 grenade sticks, a shotgun, sniper rifle etc) then you get nearer the total – use Score Attack to get a range of weapons. Beachhead is quite good as you can use the vehicles to get more sprees – and now on Firefight Arcade you’ve got a good chance of using a variety of weapons, lots of killing sprees and grenades and the like. I like hitting up Gruntpoc then getting the 5 killing sprees.

Light Fuse, Run Away – Kill 4 enemies with grenades in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 500 cR

Hmmm, we’ve not had this challenge for about 4-5 months, and instead of doubling the credit return it’s been halved. Good thing it’s really simple. Any good MP type helps here. Obviously Elite Slayer is good for Plasma Grenades, and I think Slayer Pro, or maybe Team Slayer, has a loadout with Plasma grenades too. This is with any grenade too, so just jump in your favourite game type that gives you grenades and start throwing grenades into firefights. Squad Slayer on Zealot can be excellent for this, because you get groups running around and some fairly long but tight corridors.

    500 cR?

  2. My Little Housing Blog says:

Why is it so fun to kill Grunts? Especially with the Grunt Birthday Party skull on.

  3. Braythor says:

Wow, I thought that was a typo at first. 500? I’m shocked. Might just be a quick FF game for me then, inbetween watching snooker and doing more Halo 3 with Yellow & co.

  4. DumbestEinstein says:

anyone interested in the weekly today? grifball? GT: DumbestEinstein

  5. Andrew says:

Get 4 friends each one of you plug in a split screen/guest so you have eight people and get all the multi kills in grifball

    • SensoryFour34 says:

And then you get a temporary credit ban for it too, so in the end, you won’t even get the credits from the Weekly. Sorry, but it’s just not a good idea.

  6. Captain Obvious says:

hey this is my first time posting here. i got a tip for the grenade one:

got to action sack and play boom ball. if i’m correct it counts as killing with grenades.

also i get incredible lag during firefight matchmaking does anyone else? if yes then heres a trick(you can also use this trick if you don’t want to share kills):

sign in a second controller as a guest then go to firefight doubles. no lag, no sharing kills. and if you do arcadefight you don’t even have to worry if the guest dies or not(they can get you the weapons you want by committing suicide as well).

    • DaRoflBandit says:

Yes, but that can affect the bonus round appearing, because if it’s just you playing, then you probably cant get through the match before the time is up, meaning no bonus round.

    • SensoryFour34 says:

I’m not sure, but I think the grenade launcher counts as a heavy weapon. As for Firefight, if you do use a second controller, you do have to worry about getting kills with the guest. Otherwise you’ll probably get a credit ban. I wouldn’t try it, but if your lag is that bad, I guess it’s the only way.

  7. Zidane says:

I saw a link on her the other day but couldn’t open, anyone know if credit cap has increased?

    • ChrisStrawhat says:

There will be an update sometime in december when they raise it. You will notice it when you start up Reach on that day, and if you read the info that pops up there , it probably says something about what they updated – which should be something about updated Playlists; and ofcourse our beloved credit cap =)
Personally I hope they raise it all the way up to 240k!
