5th December – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Reach Matchmaking will be updated tomorrow with a whole raft of alterations, including the new daily challenge cap. I’m expecting someone to be commenting during the day having hit it, so let me know what it’s now set to!

Christmas song of the day is Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, covered by She & Him. There are many many versions of this, including the ‘Mel and Kim’ version done as a quasi-comedy piece in the UK in the 80’s. I hate that version, hence why I’m linking to She & Him (and I do love Zooey Deschenel, if you want to get me a Christmas present get her to sing and look at me with those eyes!). Following my first work Christmas party on Friday this is very apt, and the song is evocative of those occasions, “You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear” is a good line about other Christmas songs, in a Christmas song!

Today’s challenges are:

  1. More than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  2. Short, Controlled Bursts – Kill 100 enemies with automatic weapons in the Campaign today – 2500 cR
  3. Un, Deux, Trois – Win 3 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2900 cR
  4. Credits for Completion – Complete 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2500 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

More than a Handful – Kill 25 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Multi Team Battle or Grifball are the best ways to get lots and lots of kills, you tend to get more than any other modes. If you play Crazy King or Oddball you can get even more as some people who would shoot you go for the objective, and you can take them out. If you can make an area in an Infection game defensible as a human you can rack up kills quickly.

Short, Controlled Bursts – Kill 100 enemies with automatic weapons in the Campaign today – 2500 cR

Automatic weapons are those that fire repeatedly, namely the Assault Rifle, Plasma Repeater, Plasma Rifle, Needler and Spiker. In Campaign you want a mission with lots and lots of enemies quickly. As usual, Winter Contingency’s a good one as it’s not too hard, and the enemies come quickly. Stick to Normal difficulty so you don’t have to spend too long. There are tricks in some places like Rally Point Bravo on The Package where you can get a checkpoint just before a group of Grunts so you can take out 5 quickly, then restart checkpoint and do it again.

Un, Deux, Trois – Win 3 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2900 cR

If you play a Team Slayer/SWAT/Grifball/Snipers/Action Sack etc you’ll get this easier, since only two teams gives you a higher chance of winning than the 6 person multi team (for instance). Make sure you read this Weekly Challenge commentary for more hints on doing it quick.

Credits for Completion – Complete 5 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2500 cR

This is just completion, not wins, so easy to do. Grifball and score with the bomb really quickly is best really.

I like Zooey too, but I can’t seem to listen to her music for very long before tiring of it.

  3. Chris says:

Tomorrow is the day that the new dashboard is released for the Xbox 360 right? That might take some time to download!

oh snap you just reminded me! Only problem i have with it is that it looks the windows phone -_- Anyone else remember the blades menu? ahh good times. Only thing i hate about the menu of the 360 now is there is alot of white and white is lame 😛

        Racist.

Actually, I have a Windows Phone. On first observation, it doesn’t look very appealing. However, once you use it, you realize just how innovative it truly is.

BTW, the rumor is that Microsoft is prepping for the first truly cross-platform Operating System. You can pause a movie or tv show on the Xbox 360 and pick up on it with your Windows 8 PC, laptop, tablet or phone. Some games will be cross platform (PC to Xbox). Microsoft is considering the purchase of Yahoo — and for the express purpose of integrating 200 Million users (and emails) into the new platform, as well as the Yahoo content.

And, of course, there are plenty of rumors about the next generation Xbox (720?). Some are suggesting that it might have a TV recorder (ala TiVo). Others are suggesting that it will have a tapped “broadcast” capability — where you can actually remote view (ala SlingBox).

I am excited about where Microsoft is moving with this!

Really a complete all challenges weekly wow they really are desperate I mean doing this would give you the daily and weekly achievements

    • Scruff 815 says:

This is not the first time this challenge has come up. It’s like the third time. It was also one of the first Weekly challenges Reach ever had. Also you’re posting this in the ‘daily’ post rather than the ‘weekly’ where it belongs. And wow, people who complete this Weekly might be able to get two achievements on a game that’s over a year old? OMG 343 ARE RUINING HALOLOLOLOLOL

  5. xXMaster SoulXx says:

Im ready for some new “OLD” maps…like Chillout, and Sidewinder….Hell Yeah

  6. qlpfatqlp says:

I played Halo CE to try and get the Short, Controlled Bursts – Kill 100 enemies with automatic weapons in the Campaign today – 2500 cR challenge, but it didn’t work. I suppose you have to do it in Reach campaign, but why doesn’t it say In “Reach Campaign” in the challenge, if that’s the case? We use Halo CE to play Reach Multiplayer and the challenge shows up. I don’t understand why they allow the challenge to show up if they won’t count the kills you rack up on Halo CE campaign. I’m very annoyed

    • Scruff 815 says:

I used Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood to try and get the Short, Controlled Bursts. Then I remembered that they’re completely different games so of course it didn’t work.

CE:A’s multiplayer and Firefight are part of Reach. The Campaign is not. That is why using CE:A for Campaign didn’t – and will never – work.

      • ChrisStrawhat says:

Hahaha! Scruff you made me laugh out loud the first time this morning.
Indeed, I thought everyone had gotten onboard the train about this issue. It’s clearly a different game – it is not connected to Reach’s cR system. Which is exactly what it is – it’s Reach’s system! It aint workin for any other game :E
