16th December – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Christmas song of the day is Frank Sinatra singing ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’. Not only is this a great song to belt up, when it’s performed with this level of panache you’ve just got to join in. And the illusion that he hangs out with Bing Crosby generally is always well received.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Fire When Ready – Kill 30 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1100 cR
  2. Participation Counts – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR
  3. Streaky Shooter – Earn 5 sprees in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2850 cR
  4. ..Got a Triple Double – Earn 3 Double Kills in the same match in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Fire When Ready – Kill 30 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 1100 cR

As ever, Grifball, and you’ll get this in a game or two. Try and get at least one buddy to hold the bomb whilst you play for kills (and vengeance), or hold the bomb yourself and pick off the other team as they come at you with hammers.

Participation Counts – Complete 4 games in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2400 cR

Complete 4 games. Don’t drop out. Get to the end of each. Just play through them. Doesn’t matter if you win or lose. Sorry, I can’t drag out this explanation any further. Is there a way of doing this quickly? Infection is a very fast game type so you’ll probably get it done in 10 minutes using that, or Grifball if you want to just go after the bomb score.

Streaky Shooter – Earn 5 sprees in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2850 cR

This should apply to any spree, not just kills. So you can get sprees using:

  • Hammer
  • Shotgun
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Plasma Grenade sticks
  • Sword
  • Vehicles (two here – kills in vehicle where you do the killing, and kills as driver with passenger killing)
  • Spartan Laser
  • Assists
  • Some for specific variants of Juggernaut, Invasion and Infection

See the list on Halopedia for everything, especially as you can get 3 spree medals for each type. My recommendation – go for a weapon that allows you an easy spree, personally a Shotgun or Sword work for me. If you can take out 5 dudes you should get two sprees – one for 5 kills and one for the weapon (ie Grifball). Infection can be excellent for the number of medals you get per Zombie kill so if you can defend one position on your own or in a team you’ll get this easily.

..Got a Triple Double – Earn 3 Double Kills in the same match in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Again Grifball, or Team SWAT, particularly somewhere like Sword Base. If you’re looking for alternatives, Multi Team is good, particularly Crazy King or Oddball so the round goes on longer and you can take out guys going for the objective.

    Wow grifball much?

Just got three of these in the first game of multi team I played http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=874447716&player=PeteTheCat1

My thoughts exactly, these challenges have ‘Grifball’ written all over them. Not my cup of tea in the long run, as I prefer a few games of hammer smashing faces (Cannibal Corpse pun indeed) concerning MM challenges.

Team Slayer/Anniversary playlists and a few games of Infection are more like it. But I will consider Grifball if time is short. Hell I actually thought there’d be a ‘Came from behind’ type challenge today.

Heres a nifty few Ideas for some Campaign challenges, that are different from custom ones (meaning them being actual in-game listed ones that occur daily):

One to the chest, One to the head: Earn 117 ‘EMP’ and ‘Headshot’ medals in the Campaign today.

Road Pig: Earn 7 ‘Sunday Driver’ Medals in the Campaign today.

Damage Sponge: Earn 7 ‘Rejection’ Medals in the Campaign today.

A walking tank: Complete the Package on Heroic without the use of any vehicles (Scorpion/Banshee).

Spartan Butcher: Complete a Campaign level on Normal with the use of Melee attacks only.

Fortunately, the difficulty of these challenges (for newcomers to the game…etc) should fit the appropriate cR amount.

The problem with your challenges is that it’s either a grind or just simply takes too long. Reach isn’t on everyone’s mind so its good to have daily challenges/Custom challenges that take maybe a total of an hour or so, even less then do something else like forge or a different game entirely 😛

  4. Roan-the-Man says:

Well I kinda get that they’re a little trickier to get around but I wouldn’t have made them so if the game was that much new. Reach has been around for more than a year and to me that means plenty of experience within the game, be it Competitive or Co-operative.

Besides, they wouldn’t be called ‘Challenges’ for nothing. Believe me, I’ve had my share of ‘time-consuming’ challenges back a few months ago concerning the MM variety.

Earning a few ‘specific’ medals in the Campaign and FF doesn’t seem like a long-haul of a Stretch now, does it?
