18th December – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Christmas song of the day is ‘All I Want For Christmas’, performed by the Puppini Sisters. Lyrically this is a great song, with some nice sentiment. Coupled with the threesome of the Puppini Sisters and their swing style it really works.

The challenges today are:

  1. One Spartan Army – Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  2. …Got A Triple Double – Earn 3 Double Kills in the same match in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR
  3. Heroic Overwatch – Kill 150 enemies on Overlook on Heroic in Firefight Matchmaking – 3000 cR
  4. Multiplier – Earn 3 multikills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 3000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

One Spartan Army – Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 2000 cR

You get 120 Grunts in Gruntpocalypse, about 100 enemies in Score Attack, 120-135 in 2X SA, and something like 330 in a Firefight Matchmaking game (although split between up to 4 people). If you need to ‘top up’ your FF kills, jump into a game of Generator Defense or Crashsite and once you have your kills give up the defense. I reckon that two 2x Score Attacks should just about get you this (and the other challenges).

…Got A Triple Double – Earn 3 Double Kills in the same match in Multiplayer Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Again Grifball, or Team SWAT, particularly somewhere like Sword Base. If you’re looking for alternatives, Multi Team is good, particularly Crazy King or Oddball so the round goes on longer and you can take out guys going for the objective.

Heroic Overwatch – Kill 150 enemies on Overlook on Heroic in Firefight Matchmaking – 3000 cR

Rule 1 for these is take the map the first time it comes up, whatever game type, in case you don’t see it again. If you don’t get it you can quit out, there have been some comments that it doesn’t count in 1 player modes like Score Attack, but I wouldn’t do it too often in case. There’s no game that has the kill volumes unless you can get FF Arcade with one other person max. I say 2 games of Gruntpoc or 2X Score Attack to get through this in 20 mins.

Multiplier – Earn 3 multikills in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 3000 cR

As ever, Grifball is pretty much the number 1 game type for lots of multikills. You’ll easily get this and might even get the second challenge today at the same time. This is any multikill, so an Overkill gives you a guaranteed 3000 credits!

343 has officially given up on challenges.

    • TheOneInYellow says:

Really? Where did you get that piece of info, from their blog or halo Waypoint?
I would accept your comment as partially-true if it was your personal opinion; I, too, feel that 343i has not been inventive enough with new challenges, and are not giving enough incentive for those who want to play Reach and earn tasty credits whilst doing challenging…erm…challenges. However, I do not think that they have abandoned the challenges, but it is not great that thy are just re-using older challenges; maybe Halo 4 has become of such great importance that Reach is being, somewhat, sidelined, as Reach currently is self sufficient and works, so developer input can be kept to minimal.

I prefer if they had a more active role in Reach MM within the game (themed events, fun one-off playlists, odd but satisfying challenges), but they have, at least, done some development work for Reach outside the console, such as Win Mob 7 and Apple Apps.

Lets hope that their current attention on Halo 4 will be worth their effort as they, slowly, move focus away from Reach, whilst keeping Reach ticking. 🙂

Agreed. Surely it wouldn’t take much to pay someone (me) to do the challenges on a daily basis, coming up with new ones and hand-picking old-but-good ones, rather than just chucking a machine on autospin and leaving it at that. I don’t have high hopes for tomorrow’s new weekly being a nice festive one.

  2. Zidane says:

Two days running, wow, 343 do need to sort the challenges out as it’s getting silly now 😦

  3. Steve Bergen says:

Definitely phoning it in. Two challenges are basically the same. One game of Griffball and one (maybe two) games of firefight on Overlook. Half hour of game time for me to finish up the challenges.

Hey guys, just thought I’d say hi. I’ve been using Reach Daily Challenges since september of this year when I finally picked up Reach (I know, a year late) but thanks to this site’s help I’ve been maximizing on challenges. If anyone ever wants to party up and tackle challenges together, definitely add me! My gamertag is ZincMagnezium.

About the quitting on Score Attack thing, I’m going to test that out for real today. I don’t know the exact number of games to quit before the game starts warning you about quitting too much, but I figure quitting 10-15 games in a row would be sufficient to test, if it even allows me to do that. I do have the feeling that with the 1-player firefight modes, it won’t matter.

  5. Roan-the-Man says:

You know, Reach is still a solid game thats being played by many up to date. I understand that Halo 4 would be a priority to them, but having these challenges somewhat neglected in terms of content and variety is helping no-one.

He’ll, I believe I’ve seen tons of different ones up during the first six months of the game. The Meta being the only available type of playlist for us.

I know that challenges aren’t a good interest for some high ranked players…but for put this game before others (i.e- TES: Skyrim, Arkham City, Saints Row the 3rd) things should really be kept fresh in Reach! Something I feel isn’t happening 😦

  6. SensoryFour34 says:

I understand that everyone’s tired of the getting the same challenges all the time, and so am I. What nobody seems to realize is that if they made new ones, they would eventually use them enough that people will start to complain again. They can’t constantly make new challenges because there are only so many things that can be used for challenges. We should be just be grateful for that fact that Reach has any challenges at all. How many other games have anything like that at all, much less over a year after the release date?

343 even tried to get us more interested by increasing the payouts and creating Custom Challenges for people who get bored of the Daily and Weekly Challenges! The fact that Bungie and 343 have given us chances for extra cR EVERY SINGLE DAY should be enough. Maybe people should just stop complaining about what we could have and start thinking about what we do have.

    (That was quite a rant, wasn’t it? 😉 )

    • Roan-the-Man says:

You know, there’s a difference between Custom challenges and the In-game charted ones. With Custom ones, although we can create them to specific playlists we’re still limited to a rough detail layout for them. Kills, Medals and Wins being the prominent ones.

With the In-game challenges 343i are able to further detail which medals can be specified within the challenges types. This Is why I believe we may need a few new ones in the coming weeks.

    • Zidane says:

For once I disagree with you, they can rotate the challenges better than currently

      • Roan-the-Man says:

Maybe you misunderstood what I said, I meant that 343 needs to implement new challenges that take advantage of the Medal Variety than recycle the current list.

      • Zidane says:

        Sorry was disagreeing with sensory

  7. BJ2603 says:

Hey all, sooo long since I’ve posted here! Good to see a few familiar names, and great to see new ones too 🙂 to add fuel to the fire, I’ve given up on challenges, they just get si tiresome it became like a daily chore lol

I’ve found enjoyment in bettering my MM skills, playing a bit of TS and arena (still chasing that perfection… With only one MM running riot its gonna take some doing lol) plus some objective type games.

Being in Australia, I haven’t had much time to play with the crew I’ve met here (stupid work gets in the way of all my fun) but if anyone wants to hit me up fir some MM madness, GT is as above.

Stay safe over the holidays all! 🙂
