19th December – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Christmas song of the day is my favourite Christmas song of all time, Chris Rea’s ‘Driving Home For Christmas’. Every year I do this, and it’s perfect for just that time. Chris Rea isn’t known for jolly songs, but here he’s putting into words that feeling of looking forward to seeing family, and knowing everyone on the road is doing the same.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR
  2. Helping Hand – Earn 10 assists today in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR
  3. Cannon Fodder – Kill 100 infantry-class foes in the Campaign today – 1250 cR
  4. Heroic Holdout – Kill 150 enemies on Holdout on Heroic in Firefight Matchmaking – 1125 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Covenant-cide – Kill 120 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking – 3200 cR

You could do this in one game of Gruntpocalypse, 2X Score Attack or some of the other variants. 2X is good because you’re likely to get slightly more than 120 so it takes account of TKs from the Covvies.

Helping Hand – Earn 10 assists today in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Note, this is not in 1 game, so I reckon just play as normal and you’ll get there. As ever with an assist challenge, tell your team you’re going for it, and if possible pair up with someone. In Sniper game types this is very powerful as you can try to both shoot the same person in the body and one of you should get an assist.

Cannon Fodder – Kill 100 infantry-class foes in the Campaign today – 1250 cR

Winter Contingency should give you over 50, assuming you clear out all areas when in the truck, and take out the Grunts when defending marines, and die having taken out all enemies in the courtyard at the start of Rally Point Bravo and do it twice (or just keep restarting that section). I think Tip of the Spear will give you enough infantry enemies through the whole mission, but it is a long mission that has a lot of potential for death and delay. Your other option is either the checkpoint respawn in the end of The Package, and use the Target Designator on ONI Sword Base – run straight to where it is, ignoring all enemies, grab it, turn around and blast the grunts. Then respawn to the checkpoint or restart mission to do it again.

Heroic Holdout – Kill 150 enemies on Holdout on Heroic in Firefight Matchmaking – 1125 cR

So you’re probably looking at two games of anything here – if you can get into Firefight Arcade on your own or with one other you might get this, but you might as well whizz through Gruntpocalypse, 2x Score Attack or something twice.

  1. All I want for Christmas is for Xbox Live to get rid of that annoying ( wants you to play Halo Reach) invite every time someone logs on, or I log on when someone else is already on. It’s even more annoying to get a invite to play Reach when their playing Modern Warfare or any other game besides Reach.

They are called beacons and you’re right, they are annoying. I do think Scruff hates them too, quite a bit.

In other news I have most of the achievements for Halo CEA, but the disc has a bad case of laser burn >:L

      Oh well, back to Revelations.

Sure! I take it your GT is ‘gans42’?
What country are you from? If your not Australia times may be a bit skewiff but lately ive been on all day…. feels bad… but it’s worth it 😀

What level are you and what’s your favourtie gametype?

Hmm…except for the First and Fourth Challenge, the rest seem fresh today. Seems like an easy tackle for a Monday. Multi-team and Rumble Pit for Assists and ONI-Sword Base for the Campaign-based one. All-in-all an average set to start the week =P

Do the credit that you get from inputting the terminal codes on waypoint count towards the credit limit?
