23rd December – Halo Reach Daily Challenges & Commentary

Sorry for the delay, I’ve been out and about in the big smoke today, so as an apology I bring you a picture of the giant Lego Christmas tree in St Pancras station:

Yep, that’s all Lego. It is most impressive indeed.

Christmas song of the day is Bob Dylan performing ‘It Must Be Santa’. I couldn’t not put a video of one of my favourite artists could I. His Christmas album can be fairly hit and miss, but this is a very fun rendition, and a good video that goes slightly weird at the end.

Today’s challenges are:

  1. Gunslinger – Kill 150 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 5500 cR
  2. Sweep the Leg – Perform an Assassination in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  3. Vengeance Found – Earn your ‘Revenge’ in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR
  4. Twin Trips – Earn 2 Triple Kills in the same match in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Commentary follows after the break…

Gunslinger – Kill 150 enemies in multiplayer Matchmaking – 5500 cR

Grifball as ever for high kill volumes. You can get 30, 40, 50 and more kills in a good game when you have your timing and eye in with the hammer. If you’re going for the last challenge then perhaps work in something like Team SWAT until you have that then finish this off in your favourite game type.

Sweep the Leg – Perform an Assassination in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

So many options for assassinations – you can stealth it and hide somewhere to take someone out as they run past (Sword Base’s hallways, Pinnacle and Uncaged in the lofts etc). You can play Halo Ball Extreme (my favourite for this) as the massive map often means you’ll end up with someone not knowing you’re behind them at some point. Or just play normally – if you find someone AFK then you’re quids in. I found this week Multi-Team Slayer is excellent for Assassinations when you’re on a smaller map (Asylum) as you’ll invariably end up being able to take someone roughly from behind.

Vengeance Found – Earn your ‘Revenge’ in a multiplayer Matchmaking game – 2000 cR

Revenge is when you kill the guy who killed you. Chances are you’ll pick this up naturally, especially if a camper kills you and doesn’t move. That said, there are some maps that seem to make it easier, particularly ones where you can get back to someone really quickly. Team SWAT on Asylum’s good because you can snipe the guy who took you out from afar. I like Countdown because the high platform by the jets and ramps is always a killing zone that’s easy to get to and you’ll often find your killer there. Infection might be good if you’re the zombie and you get shot by a human and can then take them out. Grifball’s also excellent as it becomes a big melee you can get back to your killer quickly, especially those who stay near your spawn zone.

Twin Trips – Earn 2 Triple Kills in the same match in multiplayer Matchmaking – 2000 cR

Team SWAT is pretty good if you can get a team taken out in one (I enjoy Asylum and Sword Base for this). Equally, Multi Team’s a pretty good bet if you can come into a lot of people taking each other on – the objective modes of Oddball and Crazy King might do you well here, longer matches and a game type that forces people to group more. And of course there’s Grifball, which is just superb for getting your multikills in.

I guess they’re making up for the low payouts yesterday. 150 kills for 5500 credits, one Assassination and one Revenge for a total of 4000? The only one that would really require Grifball is the Twin Trips. I really like the payouts today. 😀

I got the Revenge, Triple Kills, and Assassination in one game of Grifball. Now I am cleaning up in SWAT. You get batter credits with the custom challenges on Headshots as opposed to medals.

I guess we have a nice little bunch of them today. Unfortunately, time isn’t on my side this week, Abe in the coming few (what, with holiday visits to relatives and being visited allthemore by others)

With that said, Reach (and other games) will take a Break on the shelves for a few weeks 😉

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you! 🙂

That tree is AMAZING! Although the sinister side of me thinks taking a peice or two from the base could be fun… 😉
